Refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate Teased: Video

The fully refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 is just around the corner, with a debut scheduled for October 21st. Now, General Motors is teasing the upcoming pickup with a new teaser video featuring the forthcoming 2022 GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate.

General Motors has yet to announce anything official regarding the new 2022 GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate, but there are a few things we can point to here. For starters, the Ultimate will be a new package upgrade for the range-topping Sierra Denali trim level, which means it will include all the usual Denali goodies, including the 2022 GMC Sierra Denali’s unique cabin treatment. What’s more, the package is expected to incorporate higher-quality materials inside the cockpit, as well as a suspension upgrade, the latter of which will take the form of either new Magnetic Ride Control components, or new Air Ride Control components.

To note, GMC also offers an Ultimate package on the GMC Yukon, GMC Acadia, and GMC Sierra HD.

The teaser video also provides a brief glimpse of the exterior design in store with the arrival of the refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. As GM Authority covered previously, the refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 will feature revisions to the front end with a larger grille, new bumper, and thinner lower fascia, while the headlights will feature new C-shaped lighting signatures angled down towards the bumper. This latter bit is clearly visible in the latest teaser video.

The big headline change will be inside the cabin, where the fully refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 will feature a completely overhauled cabin space with a larger center screen, the latest infotainment features, and new technology, including GM’s Super Cruise semi-autonomous drive system. As stated above, the Sierra is expected to offer at least two interior layouts, with a unique design specific to the range-topping Denali trim level.

The 2022-model-year refresh is also expected to introduce a few changes to the powertrain lineup with deletion of the naturally aspirated 4.3L V6 LV3 gasoline engine and naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L82 gasoline engine. What’s more, the 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax engine will get boosted tow ratings, while the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine will produce more torque, up to 420 pound-feet.

  • So GM already offers the cat back exhaust package... any chance that the new LT2 can be dropped into the Denali Ultimate? 490hp (probably more like 475-480 with the longer piping) would bring it up to speed against fords higher power offerings. The LT2 would do way more than the cat back package with revised manifold and exhaust ports

  • GM needs to deliver on the Denali luxury promise. It should be no question that it's the most luxurious in it's class since Cadillac doesn't do pickups.

  • Excited to see this. My only comment is the use of "ultimate", should've gone with something more fitting like Denali Alpine or Denali Summit

    • Ultimate is a separate package on top of Denali. My high country has the same package. Still High Country, just with extra goodies.

  • Not sure how I feel about Denali no longer being the top dog. GMC needs to make the "Ultimate" worthy of the change.

    • Several Denali models have had an Ultimate package for several years now. This package has nothing to do with replacing the Denali name. The article above incorrectly states that the Ultimate package is new to the Sierra.

The Ultimate package basically combines all options available on the Denali into a single package that includes premium wheels. It hasn’t offered different interior finishes from the base Denali.

    • it technically is still the top dog. it just has extra to it. Its not like they randomly picked the name, they always had "Denali ultimate" as a package. they are likely just turning the package into a trim.

      • I think it would hold more if they called it the Denali Summit. Call the regular Denali just the Denali.

  • GMC pretty much confirmed the AT4X. I asked them if it is a real thing. They responded, "Next Stop: Off the map".

  • Reserve it, what a joke. I’m waiting for truck month with 10k off, until then, stick it up your heinder gm!

    • I'm with you.... want a new truck now...but not paying what they want no matter what the package is... I'll wait till 2023 or 2024 and hope things get back to normal.

  • I have a Denali Ultimate Acadia. It is no big deal.

They just added the option packages that were separate into one package.

    Most dealers order this package

When I bought my 17 it was impossible yo find options like the electronic suspension that is standard in the Ultimate package. It is hard not to get it now. The Ultimate just raised the average transaction price. Good marketing for them.

  • So the venerable 5.3 will be gone, but no information regarding the 6.2 unless I missed it, so is it status quo... I read the improvements for the 2.7 and the turbo diesel.

I have to ask since the article left it out.

    • What are you talking about? The 5.3 is still around. They discontinued the L82 version of the 5.3L, the one in the work truck. They kept the L84 5.3L.

      • jonny, make sure you tell the writer of this article (not me) so he knows and can put your information into the article. Folks like me that never owned a Cadillac do not know so all I did was take the writer info and asked questions.

Writer...taje jonny's information and quit misleading readers...

That should help direct your answers.

      • The 1/2 ton Denalis come with the 5.3 standard, the 6.2 has always been an option unless you get the Ultimate package which on the previous model included the 6.2.

  • I researched the 2021 - 2022 Denali engine packages and all were equipped with the 6.2, no 5.3 options.

    • Denali comes standard with the 5.3. 6.2 and diesel are optional. The ultimate comes with the 6.2 and the diesel as an option. Pretty simple, why the complaining?
