The fully refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 is set for a debut later this month, with General Motors planning to pull the sheets during a media preview event October 21st.
The reveal of the fully refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 follows the debut of the fully refreshed 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500, the latter of which serves as the Sierra’s “corporate cousin” in the General Motors lineup. What’s more, the refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 will offer similar updates and changes as those in place with the refreshed 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500, including new exterior styling with a revised new fascia.
Previously, GM Authority brought you a preview of the refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali courtesy of a set of spy photos documenting a prototype model testing on public roads. Standout features included visible front air curtains that provide improved aerodynamic performance via reduced drag, upping fuel returns in the process, as well as improving comfort inside the cabin.
Speaking of the interior, the fully refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 will feature a completely overhauled interior, which GM Authority managed to capture in new spy photos posted back in May. Standout features for the new interior include a brand-new center stack configuration, as well as slim, horizontally oriented air vents and a sizable center infotainment screen. It’s also worth pointing out that the range-topping 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali is expected to offer a unique interior layout compared to the rest of the trim level lineup.
Under the hood, the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 is expected to offer an enhanced version of the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gas engine, offering an additional 20 percent more torque, similar to the enhanced 2.7L I4 L3B found in the refreshed 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500. Tow ratings for models equipped with the 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax are also expected to get a bump, rising from 9,300 pounds to 13,300 pounds.
On the tech front, the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 will arrive with GM’s Global B electrical architecture, enabling features like GM’s Super Cruise semi-autonomous driver assist system.
The refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 follows the pre-refresh 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Limited and 2021 GMC Sierra 1500, arriving late as a result of complications arising from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Hope it looks better then the Silverado. Needs other interior colors other then boring black.
The Sierra almost always looks better than the Silverado and when has a truck EVER been released with just one interior color??
Looks good. When do you think it will show up on dealer lots?
They will have some available by next year, there probably won’t be as many due to the fact that there are plenty of “Non-Chipped” 2022 Limited Trucks that will still need to be cleared off the books, it’s going to be interesting to see how that will turn out.
Couple of years maybe.
Are the 2022 gmc sierra denali ever coming out with full moon roofs?
No.
Buy one of the clunkers already on the market if you need that kind of gimmick in your truck.
I just hope it has a plastic/vinyl interior option I do concrete and leather or cloth is not an option.
Heavy duty seat covers have done the job for me
What brand do you use? And where did you get them?
Will the refreshed interior include the saddle color? Black and gray doesn’t get it.
Do you think the Sierra/other GMC will get the auto lane change feature that the Hummer has?
No
Name is just weird but yes it will as the system is the same per vehicle it currently is on. Not sure what logic the weirdo is using
Let me explain it for you since you seem confused. The hummer has certain features unique to it and only it. But since you seem to have the inside info please do tell when are they getting the lane change feature? Nothing weird about the name either the person above claims he is the only real josh even though josh is the 17th most common name in the USA hope this helps. Some would say it’s weird you don’t put a space between gm and guy
Hmm I didn’t see that announcement where did you see that?
Nice insult calling this person you don’t know weird. Hopefully that put down brought you some joy today and made you feel better about yourself. Do better friend.
Is there any indication what the order placing process will look like? Some have said it will be signing up for a waitlist like the Lyric. Others have said GM will not be taking custom orders on the truck at all until the next model year? Should we be getting more info on that on 10/21?
Why doesn’t GMC get the dark essentials package like Chevrolet… so much chrome…
Because blacked out should die, it has been overly used for the past 5 years. Please, for the of god only make it special order only for those that have no taste or originality… Seemed every elevation packaged had black wheels which just look horrible and unoriginal and when combined with a dark exterior bland as it blended in with the paint so nothing stood out.
who hurt you? You can keep your chrome buddy, was just saying the option would be nice for those that don’t want a chrome Denali.
It’s obviously popular for a reason
I, on the other hand, absolutely despise chrome and all things that are offered with acres of chrome plating (in other words, I hate about half of modern trucks). That, my friend, is an outdated look that should also finally die. Chrome is like a Harley – it’s designed for people stuck in the 70s thinking that everything needs to be huge, shiny, unwieldy, and poorly made.
I love the look of blacked out wheels and grilles combined with solid body colored bumpers. I’m also partial to the two tone setups some trucks offer. Let us have our thing and you can have your thing.
P.S. – tricoat white or a light gray body color with blacked out accents and the blacked out plates some states offer is a gorgeous color combo.
Every elevation package had black wheels… um yep. That’s what the elevation package is. It’s the blacked out package. I will admit. I preferred chrome years ago. But there is just too much on trucks these days. When I saw a Sierra Elevation in Pacific Blue, I forgot all about chrome.
Although I do prefer the AT4 black chrome to just black on the elevation.
That’s got to be a gorgeous truck. Great color with the blacked out accents… Love it. As per your other comment, a shiny black is perfectly fine but I wouldn’t call the AT4 as having black chrome.
That’s what GMC calls the AT4, black chrome. Not sure how else you’d describe it, it isn’t mirrored chrome.
We’ll, given that it’s shiny black paint rather than actual chrome plating, I’d call it reflective black.
I like the chrome AND blacked out look. Depends on what you’re going for although they go a little overboard with the chrome rather than just accents. The bigger problem I have with GM in general is they’re ALWAYS late to the party. The blacked out thing was “a thing” for years before GM started to offer stuff with it. Now that they’re going full bore with it I expect it to shift back and take years to follow that trend. They’re like my wife trying to parallel park a tractor trailer.
I’m hoping it looks similar to the new Tahoe, because it is gorgeous.
AT4X please.
MB is not real smart or knows what he is talking about. GM currently has black and there second color is black with walnut. Gm is a bunch of dumb ass’s when it come to dark colors, dark everything on interior for there cheap blown plastic dash and doors, and the exterior is full of cheap unfinished plastic on wheel lip moldings, bed step, bumper steps, running boards , stupid mounted door mirrors , fake allison trans , good for a year black wall tires , no two tone , cheap thin sets , I have a 2019 2500 denali, piece of crap
You indeed can order a 2022 Sierra, I ordered mine in late September, to be here Late January or Feburary. Longer than usual wait due to covid/ chip shortages. Yes my truck was a special order. Thru Bellingham WA. Chevrolet/ GMC dealer . They have been great & helped whith every detail.
I assume you ordered the “classic” or “limited” version that’s identical to the 19-21’s? The new design Silverado isn’t supposed to be out until spring. Assume you can’t order the new version yet of either, especially since the Sierra hasn’t even been revealed yet.
I just bought a 2021 XLE on 100221 and they said nothing about the new model coming out in days
Go figure
Is there no ethics anymore
How much did you get it for if you don’t mind me asking?
What is the price pn the GMS
How do they get the 3.0 Diesel tow rating to go from 9300# to 13,300# ?
