Recall Issued For Chevy Bolt EV Floor Mats Over Unintended Acceleration

General Motors has issued a recall for a set of accessory floor mats that are offered for the 2017-2021 model-year Chevy Bolt EV.

The problem: vehicles equipped with these rubber all-weather accessory floormats (GM Part #42686568) will not have adequate space between the mats and the accelerator pedal, which can cause the pedal to become lodged by the floor mat. This problem can be tied to the grommet that holds the mat in place, which may shift and create a smaller clearance between the mat and pedal than GM originally intended.

The hazards: if this happens, the floor may cause the accelerator to become depressed, leading to sudden unintended and unexpected acceleration. The vehicle operator can override the accelerator by pressing the brake, but this condition could still prove dangerous if the operator does not react in an ideal manner. No crashes or injuries have been tied to this problem, although GM has received a number of related complaints.

The fix: GM dealers will replace the mats free of charge. In the meantime, owners of vehicles equipped with these floor mats are being asked to remove them from the vehicle.

Affected components: accessory all-weather floor mats

Affected vehicles:

  • 2017-2021 Chevy Bolt EV with optional all-weather accessory floor mats (GM Part #42686568)

Number of affected vehicles: it’s not clear how many Chevy Bolt EV models are currently equipped with these accessory all-weather floor mats.

Owners should: recall notification letters will be mailed to affected owners starting on November 29th, 2021. 1. All I hear is: New batteries & New Floor Mats

      1. True. Pick up a “used” one once both recalls are done.

  2. The Bolt is just not having a good day.

Is it about to join the long line of all-new and revolutionary small cars that turn into a disaster for gm. The line starts with Corvair (1960), then Vega (1970), then Citation/X-cars (1980) and some add Saturn (1990) to the list although they were pretty decent product-wise just not good for gm in the end.

    1. I would hardly rate the Vega or X cars as pretty decent cars. They were full of bad engineering and poor quality manufacturing defects. The Fiero was another one.The Bolt is on its way to joining them, batteries, seats, floor mats to start.

  3. My Vega never caught fire. It did dissolve by the beach though.

  5. GM training for Bolt EV cocierge, service personnel. During recall are the 3 most frustrating words you can give a person that trusted you with thousands of dollars. “We don’t know.”
    Over 1 year since Recall
5 months with 2nd update limiting charging to 90%
3 months with minimum 70 miles charge it.
No information on when “MYBolt “ is scheduled for a battery replacement.
No information on buyback since all paperwork was sent on Sept 24, 2021.
Now they prioritize new Bolts, that according to the Dealers they can’t sell the old till they fix the recall.
Loss in value 2019 Chevy Bolt Premier dealer trade in 18500-43000= 24500/43000=56% loss in value.
Tesla 2019 and approx 54000 new buy with FSD for about 48000actual loss about 6000=about 11 to 12% depreciation. Yeap, I should have bought a Tesla. The blue bow tie will no longer be in my family and friends future. It isn’t’ the money, so much. You would think they would give a hoot about their reputation. They don’t deserve our tax monies, when they have zero regard for those who purchased their products are treated so shabbily.

    1. Thinking there are a lot of Bolt owners who feel exactly as you do. Good luck gm selling them another gm EV.
