GMC Hummer EV Named 2022 Green Truck Of The Year Finalist

The GMC Hummer EV completely changes the nameplate’s approach to off-roading, hitting the trails with a cutting-edge, zero-emission EV powertrain. It’s a major change compared to Hummers of the past, and now, the all-new battery-driven rig has been recognized by Green Car Journal as a finalist for the 2022 Green Truck of the Year award.

The GMC Hummer EV is joined by four other finalists for the 2022 Green Truck of the Year award, including the Ford F-150, Ford Maverick, Rivian R1T, and Toyota Tundra, with the Ford F-150, Ford Maverick, and Toyota Tundra recognized for offering hybrid powerplant options. Meanwhile, the Rivian R1T is all-electric, just like the GMC Hummer EV.

The Green Car Journal Green Car Awards are intended to showcase environmental progress in the auto industry. In addition to the 2022 Green Truck of the Year award, the publication also recognizes vehicles in other segments with its Family Green Car of the Year award.

“Pickups are a big thing in Texas and across the country,” said Green Car Journal editor and publisher, Ron Cogan. “As one of the top-selling and most desired vehicles on the market, it’s important that pickups continue to blend expected truck capabilities with greater levels of environmental performance, and we’re definitely seeing that with this year’s finalists.”

Under the big-and-brash exterior, the GMC Hummer EV Pickup is equipped with General Motors’ Ultium battery and Ultium motor technology, which doles out as much as 1,000 horsepower in range-topping models, with roughly 350 miles of range per charge. Further down the line, the GMC Hummer EV Pickup is also offered with 830-horsepower and 625-horsepower configurations, with range-per-charge rated between 250 miles and 300 miles, depending on the setup selected.

The 2022 Green Truck of the Year award will be presented Friday, November 12th, during the 2021 San Antonio Auto & Truck Show at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio, Texas.
