GM To Reprogram Cadillac CTS Active Safety Control Module

General Motors has issued a service update for certain examples of the 2017 to 2019 model-year Cadillac CTS in order to reprogram the vehicles’ active safety control module.

The problem: GM has determined affected vehicles with the Active Safety Control Module (RPO code V2V) may have a condition where the “Service Vehicle Soon” message is displayed in the Driver Information Center, despite the vehicle not being in need of service.

The hazards: this is a service update only and thus the problem described above does not pose a direct safety hazard to the driver or other vehicle occupants. Customers may be bothered by the “Service Vehicle Soon” message constantly appearing in the Driver Information Center, however, so it would be in their interest to have the Active Safety Module reprogrammed.

The fix: vehicles with this condition are all equipped with the necessary hardware and software to receive over-the-air updates. Affected vehicles can therefore download the update at any time, so long as the user accepts the terms and conditions. Customers who do not want to perform the OTA update themselves can also take the vehicle into a dealership and the service center will reprogram it for them, free of charge.

Affected components: Active Safety Control Module

Affected vehicles:

  • 2017-2019 Cadillac CTS (equipped with V2V Active Safety Control Module)

Number of affected vehicles: it’s not clear how many 2017-2019 model-year Cadillac CTS vehicles may have this condition.

Owners should: customers affected by this Service Update can accept the terms and conditions of the OTA update and perform the software update themselves. Owners can also make an appointment with their dealership to have the module updated. The service update was activated in October 2021 and will not expire until the end of the involved vehicle’s New Vehicle Limited Warranty period. Owners of affected vehicles can also reach out to Cadillac directly with any questions or concerns they may have using the contact information included below.

  1. I have to wonder if over-the-air updates are really safe as there are so many sci-fi books about hacking cars in the future
