The GM Authority Take

GM Mexico sales suffered another noteworthy decline in September as the automaker continued to suffer the negative impact of discontinuing the Chevy Beat, which had been its best-seller in the local market. That was compounded by the global semiconductor shortage, which has depleted inventories of several strategic GM vehicles. In fact, last month’s results represents not only the third consecutive decrease in monthly  GM sales in Mexico, but also a reduction in sales volume during each of the three months that make up the third quarter.

Despite the fact that most models offered by GM Mexico suffered substantial drops in September sales, the recovery in Chevy Aveo sales volume stands out in particular. The subcompact sedan doubled its volume on a year-over-year basis to 3,186 units, becoming the best-selling GM vehicle in the Latin country. Similarly, the Chevy Silverado and the line of full-size SUVs also experienced healthy growth.

For its part, the 2022 Chevy Captiva continues solid commercial performance, becoming GM’s second-best-selling nameplate for the third consecutive month. The compact crossover has become one of the most popular in its category in Mexico.

New Chevy Tornado Van for Mexico

In addition, September was the first month of sales of the new Chevrolet Tornado Van in the Mexican market. The Chevy-rebadged Wuling Hong Guang V registered 665 deliveries.

  1. Lol… those that could afford to buy a gm came to US via the open border and now the wrong cartel has the money….lol

  2. Poor management strategies led to this. They have discontinued one of the best-selling vehicles in the country (Chevrolet Beat, Spark) and now they offer nothing in the entry-level segment. Well, at least we still have Chevrolet sedans to choose from.
