GM Canada sales decreased 23 percent to 48,657 units during the third quarter of 2021. Sales decreased at all four GM brands offered in the country, including Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC.
GM Canada Sales Notes – Q3 2021
GM Canada sales fell remarkably in the third quarter of 2021, posting double-digit decreases at each of the company’s four brands. This was directly caused by the industry-wide supply chain disruptions caused by the global semiconductor shortage, which limited vehicle production and the associated dealer inventories.
“These results reflect how the shortage of semiconductors continues to impact vehicle production and dealer inventory,” said Vice President, sales, service and marketing at GM Canada, Sandor Piszar, in a statement. “However, the bright spots for the quarter illustrate how GM is prioritizing production of our most in-demand models and how our dealers continue to meet customer demand for these vehicles despite the challenges,” he added.
Indeed, GM’s newest utility vehicles recorded sales increases in Canada during the third quarter. This includes big triple-digit increases for models like the Chevy Trailblazer and Suburban, Buick Envision, Cadillac Escalade and GMC Yukon XL.
Brand & Model Sales
Chevrolet sales decreased 22.1 percent to 24,655 units:
- Chevrolet Blazer sales decreased 52.16 percent to 642 units
- Chevrolet Bolt EV sales increased 8.78 percent to 1,190 units
- Chevrolet Camaro sales decreased 34.72 percent to 282 units
- Chevrolet Colorado sales decreased 26.03 percent to 1,202 units
- Chevrolet Corvette sales increased 2.95 percent to 733 units
- Chevrolet Cruze sales decreased 100 percent to 0 units
- Chevrolet Equinox sales decreased 25.67 percent to 2,569 units
- Chevrolet Express sales decreased 55.11 percent to 277 units
- Chevrolet Impala sales decreased 100 percent to 0 units
- Chevrolet Malibu sales decreased 83.29 percent to 140 units
- Chevrolet Silverado sales decreased 22.7 percent to 11,236 units
- Chevrolet Spark sales decreased 12.86 percent to 1,734 units
- Chevrolet Suburban sales increased 232.17 percent to 661 units
- Chevrolet Tahoe sales increased 70.8 percent to 1,059 units
- Chevrolet Trailblazer sales increased 120.03 percent to 1,725 units
- Chevrolet Traverse sales decreased 64.77 percent to 688 units
- Chevrolet Trax sales decreased 60.35 percent to 517 units
Cadillac sales decreased 27.3 percent to 3,021 units:
- Cadillac CT4 sales increased 48.16 percent to 200 units
- Cadillac CT5 sales decreased 19.82 percent to 186 units
- Cadillac CT6 sales decreased 100 percent to 0 units
- Cadillac CTS sales decreased 100 percent to 0 units
- The vehicle has been discontinued and is being replaced indirectly by the CT5
- Cadillac Escalade sales increased 113.31 percent to 913 units
- Cadillac Escalade ESV sales increased 60.61 percent to 212 units
- Cadillac XT4 sales decreased 79.55 percent to 237 units
- Cadillac XT5 sales decreased 40.31 percent to 869 units
- Cadillac XT6 sales decreased 26.94 percent to 404 units
- Cadillac XTS sales decreased 100 percent to 0 units
Buick sales decreased 16.7 percent to 4,450 units:
- Buick Enclave sales were flat at 518 units
- Buick Encore sales decreased 79.56 percent to 402 units
- Buick Encore GX sales decreased 9.09 percent to 1,771 units
- Buick Envision sales increased 114.39 percent to 1,758 units
- Buick LaCrosse sales decreased 100 percent to 0 units
- Buick Regal sales decreased 98.23 percent to 1 units
GMC sales decreased 25.3 percent to 16,531 units:
- GMC Acadia sales increased 2.1 percent to 925 units
- GMC Canyon sales increased 17.08 percent to 1,357 units
- GMC Savana sales decreased 73.74 percent to 329 units
- GMC Sierra sales decreased 32.06 percent to 9,897 units
- GMC Terrain sales decreased 40.48 percent to 1,860 units
- GMC Yukon sales increased 67.1 percent to 1,310 units
- GMC Yukon XL sales increased 156.92 percent to 853 units
During the first nine months of the 2021 calendar year, GM Canada sales increased 10.3 percent to 178,120 units.

Wow, GM is taking a beating in this quarter. But it must be hard to get a vehicle now with all of the delays, hassles and higher prices. No doubt that is a factor.
It’s probably time for GM to get out of the car business, they, top management, really aren’t up to it. If the chip shortage is the problem with sales, how come other companies are shoving them down the sales charts in virtually all categories while having troubles selling vehicles themselves?
