General Motors has appointed Edward Kummer as chief digital officer. Kummer will assume his new role effective October 16th, and will report to GM President Mark Reuss.
As the new General Motors chief digital officer, Kummer will be responsible for building and delivering a holistic digital business in line with GM’s Growth Strategy, leading the newly formed Digital Business team and accelerating software investments.
Kummer brings experience in marketing and digital efforts across several industries, such as travel, wealth management, consumer products, retail, and entertainment. Kummer previously served as president of Nordstrom Rack’s online business and the Nordstrom HauteLook brand. While at Nordstrom, Kummer increased online sales and led significant profit growth through integrated online site and omni-channel strategy.
Kummer also spent 18 years with the Walt Disney Company in a multiple strategic leadership roles, followed by a leadership position in digital and e-commerce strategies for several other companies, including Victoria’s Secret and Luxottica, as well as chief marketing and digital officer for Oakley. Kummer was also a managing director and chief marketing officer at Goldman Sachs.
In his new role, Kummer will establish General Motors as a digital market leader by driving online commercial success and strategic investments, while leading a digital team of dedicated commercial leaders. This integrated approach will seek to connect value chains to enable GM to adapt quickly and grow its digital business.
