Chevy dealers will see no new Chevy Trax shipments for the month of October, 2021 as a result of the global microchip shortage.
The ongoing global microchip shortage has had a profound effect on General Motors’ production capabilities, with The General forced to idle numerous production facilities around the world. One of the latest cuts is at GM’s Bupyeong facility in Incheon, South Korea, where all available microchip supplies are being diverted to production of the Chevy Trailblazer and Buick Encore GX. As a result, production of the Chevy Trax has been put on hold.
Looking over segment sales numbers for the first nine months of the 2021 calendar, the Chevy Trax placed eleventh among mainstream subcompact crossovers in the U.S., with 41,306 units sold year-to-date. That’s a 48-percent decrease compare to sales numbers a year ago, at which time General Motors sold 80,193 units. The latest figures place the Chevy Trax between the Jeep Renegade and Ford Ecosport in the segment in terms of sales rankings.

The 2022 Chevy Trax introduces a few changes and updates over the preceding 2021 model year, including deletion of the front passenger flat-folding seat back, which has been replaced with a traditional front passenger seat with a seat back map pocket.
All other changes for 2022 took place late in the 2021 model year, including the addition of an electric heater and outside temperature sensor. An engine block heater also replaces the oil pan heater.
As GM Authority covered previously, the 2021 Chevy Trax also unexpectedly adopted a new, more powerful engine in the 2020 calendar year. Since its launch in the U.S. market for the 2015 model year, the Trax was only available with a single engine option, namely the turbocharged 1.4L I4 LUV gasoline engine. However, U.S.-spec models are now offered with the turbocharged 1.4L I4 LE2 gasoline engine, which serves as a replacement for the LUV.
