Chevy Blazer Ranks High In J.D. Power 2021 U.S. Seat Quality And Satisfaction Study

The Chevy Blazer performed well in the recent J.D. Power 2021 U.S. Seat Quality And Satisfaction Study, which ranks vehicles based on their seat comfort and quality.

For this study, J.D. Power surveyed 110,827 purchasers and lessees of new 2021 model-year vehicles after 90 days of ownership, asking them to rate their vehicle’s seats based on ergonomics, comfort and materials and manufacturing quality. It then used these responses to assign each vehicle a score based on the reported problems per 100 vehicles (PP100) with a lower score reflecting higher overall seat quality.

The Chevy Blazer seats had an average of 6.1 problems for every 100 vehicles, making them the best-performing seats in the Mass Market Midsize/Large SUV category. The Blazer’s seats are manufactured by Southfield, Michigan-based supplier Lear Corporation.

The Hyundai Palisade came in second behind the Chevy Blazer with a score of 6.4, while the Nissan Murano was third with a score of 7.1. The Palisade’s seats are also manufactured by Lear Corporation, while the Murano’s are made by Tokyo-based supplier Tachi-S Co.

This study also identified an important emerging trend among new vehicle interiors. According to J.D. Power, the durability of synthetic seat leather is now on par with genuine leather and offers numerous benefits, including better cleanability and lower costs for both manufacturers and consumers.

Brent Gruber, senior director of global automotive quality at J.D. Power, said synthetic leather seats are also more durable and even outperform cloth upholstery in some instances.

“This year’s study shows that leather alternatives have evolved to a point where they can be used without sacrificing the consumer experience, and actually offer some unique benefits” Gruber explained. “With a heightened sense of awareness to surface cleanliness due to COVID-19, synthetic leather seats lend themselves well to cleanability, but it is ultimately about providing benefits which address notable industry challenges such as providing durability, soil resistance and, most importantly, cost-effectiveness. Our study shows that synthetic leather out-performs cloth seating in select areas while offering benefits similar to those of leather.”

The Chevy Blazer nameplate was reintroduced for the 2019 model year as a midsize crossover, slotting in between the compact Chevy Equinox and full-size Chevy Traverse in the Bow Tie brand’s lineup. Since its introduction, the new Blazer has proven to be a popular choice among consumers, emerging as one of the top-selling models in its segment. The crossover is in line to receive a mid-cycle enhancement (MCE) for the 2023 model year, which will include revised exterior styling, a mildly updated interior and new up-to-date technology.

  1. JD Power seat quality award? They’re running out awards to sell. Can I suggest instruction manual print quality?

  2. Sam seat quality is very important especially if you go on trips often like my wife and I do . My wife’s 2019 Buick Enclave has excellent seats as does my 2010 Chevy equinox LTZ after driving either car I never feel very tired from the long trips! I think it’s important to get JD POWER has this award it makes the car manufacturers want to use better seats and materials!

  3. I like the way the Blazer looks. I will go check them out at my local Chevy shop. They must have plenty of inventory 🤦🏻

  4. I’ve been in two 2021 Blazers and the bottom seat cushions are flat and short, leaving you with no lateral support and leaving your knees hanging off the front edge of the seat. I’m only 5′ 9″, so I can only imagine how uncomfortable they would be for someone taller with longer legs.

  5. These people doing this testing and rating must have weird butts and short legs, because the lower seat cushion in any of the gm products of late that I’ve been in come up pardon the pun short and quite lacking.

  6. How much do the people weigh that are doing the testing? Several overweight people have sat in my passenger seat, briefly, and the bottom is ruined. I’ve only had the car 2 weeks.

  7. I purchased a new 2021 from our local dealer, for my wife’s birthday. It was a toss up between the similar sized Cadillac, but what sold me was the soft and comfortable seats and I’m 6’2” tall. Fords seats suck, cuz they are for the tiny persons.
I also purchased the Blazer because it is the only one across the board, in its class, in the GM total line up of this size of SUV, that has a real transmission and not the rubber band snappers.
