The GM Authority Take
U.S. Chevy sales suffered a significant decline during the third quarter of 2021, representing a further negative result after the healthy 30.5 percent increase during the second quarter of the year. The decline in sales volume during the past quarter is primarily due to sub-optimal inventory as a result of the ongoing global semiconductor shortage, which GM is navigating by allocating chips to its most popular models – namely full-size pickup trucks and SUVs.
A total of 13 Chevy nameplates saw declines in sales volume, with notable double-digit drops for the Chevrolet Silverado and Chevrolet Equinox – the best-selling vehicles for all of General Motors. However, the Silverado saw the lowest decline during both the third quarter as well as during the first nine months of the 2021 calendar year.

In contrast, four other Chevy models posted substantial increases in sales volumes, including the Corvette, Low Cab Forward, Suburban, Tahoe and Trailblazer.
The Corvette saw sales grow nearly 60 percent to 10,166 units during the quarter, outselling all of its rivals combined.
Meanwhile, the Trailblazer posted the highest growth rate, enabling the South Korean-built subcompact crossover to achieve its highest quarterly sales figure since launching in the U.S. market with 25,531 deliveries. In fact, the Trailblazer posted its highest segment share to date in September, during which time demand outpaced supply nearly five-fold.
Additionally, the all-new 2022 Chevy Bolt EUV outperformed the Bolt EV in its first full quarter on sale, despite the ongoing battery recall.
Finally, the Tahoe saw sales grow 4.7 percent to 24,202 units while Suburban deliveries improved 28 percent to 9,667 units.

And Mary will still receive a year end bonus-
WTF Tony. Are you just a woman hater or what’s the problem? Mary as you refer to her has ZERO to do with a global issue that is affecting every brand all over the world. In fact, as ALL brands navigate through this uncharted territory, most all of them have been doing very well financially. They (all) are allocating chips to the most popular and profitable models. What they are selling is bringing in huge profits for both GM (in this case) and the dealers. At the moment, they don’t have to put huge incentives (very costly) on the hoods and the lower profit margin vehicles are barely available. I’d say with all things taken into account, “Mary” is doing quite well.
It’s really time for you and everyone on here constantly bashing Mary to move on in your world. Seriously.
Stop with the gender bating dan this is getting old. If you wanna be a gender/race baiter get some practice because you aren’t good at it. No ceo deserves a 22 million dollar salary you think he said that because she’s a woman? I feel sorry for you I really do how pathetic that’s what you run to 🤡
Ah, sorry Leon. Lame attempt to put this on me. Tony is the one who just had to bring up Mary in the very first comment like as if she has something to do with the micro ship issue. Maybe you are confusing me with someone else on here, but I almost NEVER bring up Mary unless I’m responding to stupid comments. And what about my legit question about other CEO’s and/or athlete’s? If this is not about being a woman, then I sure hope Tony and the rest of you bi–h about all the rest as well. Grow up. And did I say she is worth how much she makes? No. Do I feel any athlete’s are worth what they make? No. Do I feel that anyone, anywhere is worth more than one million a year at the most? No.
It’s a very sad day in this world when all these people make so much and yet the president of the USA makes what? Half a million at most? Crazy. But this article is about Chevy being down and the main reason for it (micro chip issues), and Tony’s comment seems very out of touch with reality.
Not a women hater – sorry you feel that way – since she has been CEO they have lost market share and continue to do so- she’s not doing the job – Ford got rid of their CEO when he failed to lead the company- have a swell day
Tony: Market share doesn’t equate to profits. GM could go back to the days of having too many brands with cookie cutter vehicles and sell a ton more vehicles. Selling more would increase market share, correct? But would that equate to profits? On top of that, we have more brands being sold today than even 20 years ago, so it kind of slims the market share % down as well.
Lost market share due to lack of promotion- when’s the last time you saw an ad for a Camaro – Don’t tell me they lost money on the Camaro either – don’t make excuses for poor management
I say the same thing about the athletes dan. I think it’s ridiculous that a person get paid millions sometimes hundreds of millions of dollars to pick up a stick and hit a ball with it or dribble a basketball or throw a football to me that’s crazy. Teachers, doctors, nurses, tech’s, garbage men, warehouse workers, firefighters, police officers, military soldiers, grocery workers, assembly line workers, truck drivers, fishermen, farmers, security guards this is just a few to name if anyone on here would like I would be more then happy to continue to name them for any of you. These people should be making the real money not some ceo who drives some fancy car and sits at some big desk in an office somewhere when the real workers don’t make hardly anything. So if this makes me a woman hater or athlete hater I’ll proudly take that with pride. I will always side with the little guy before I parrot for some multi millionaire goof of how they deserve there big salaries. I encourage anyone on here who would like to open there mouth and say think any of those job positions I named do not deserve more then a ceo or athlete please come and explain it to me Im more then happy to watch you make a complete fool of yourself.
Johnny: Agree 100%. And I’ve been saying that for many years. Do I feel Mary and other CEO’s are worth anything close to what they make? Heck no! Athletes? NO. Politicians? NO. (only maybe the president should make more). But yes, the police officers, teachers, nurses, firefighters, farmer/ranchers, etc. They all need more. But I need to be careful because otherwise I’ll have people on here calling me a liberal and/or socialist. Not that I’d take that as an insult, but that’s not the point.
My original point is that people really need to stop with the Mary bashing. In Tony’s original post, he could have easily said the CEO’s and upper management will still get their year end bonuses. That would not have sounded much different.
Oh, and do you go bashing all these sports people and athlete’s who make millions upon millions even if they don’t play or refuse to comply with current mandates? If not, why? What’s the difference?
She should receive a bonus having to navigate through very difficult times for the entire industry. Material prices skyrocketing, materials supply shortages, labor not as efficient as normal times due to missed days, sickness. GM’s labor rate of no call, no show was up by 50% in 2020 and 2021. Hard to run factories efficiently when your workers think they can just take a day off whenever they want. This is also an industry wide problem, even affecting Boeing.
No she doesn’t. When small businesses are closing daily and the average person can’t make ends meet even working multiple jobs I’m sorry but these athletes, CEO’s, politicians do not deserve the money they make.
I hate to interrupt, but Let’s go Brandon!
Eat sh*t, a**hole.
Lots are bare – so it is not shocking to see such a result. Of course, if I wanted a Korean car, there are lots of choices. But I guess resting on laurels is good enough for the current management team who are blinded by the avalanche of electric vehicles coming in the mythical future. Note to GM – if you don’t have vehicles now, those sales are gone forever.
How dumb are you? The current shortage of microchips affects ALL car makers! It has nothing to do with Chevrolet or GM. Everyone’s lots are barren. Use your smartphone more, because you sure don’t have any smarts of your own.
A downsize is coming, I’m surprised Buick is still around. Stand alone Buick stores don’t exist anymore and couldn’t survive anyway.
Fiat, Dodge, Chrysler, Mini, Mitsubishi, Infiniti, Acura, Genesis, Lincoln, Jaguar are allin much worse shape than Buick.
Fact checkers deem this false. ☑️
Fact Checker is talking out of his bun hole.
DO SOME RESEARCH
You don’t need to type in all capitals little friend I can read. I’ve done the research but by all means please come show me where gm is in a better position then those car companies he named. Don’t try to change the subject either come point it out.
I like the Buick brand itself. Just wish they make it more luxury. Cadillac be the 1st with tech and better chassis. Give me boring motor and chassis but Uber luxury car
Fact Check
My original statement still stands
Tesla stock up $39.00 gm up 19 cents.
Tesla # of owners on their knees 100# GM 0%
Huh? Tesla was up almost $200 last week… Tesla added 2.5X the total market cap of GM in 1 week.
Hey buddy i know you have Tesla stock what is going on with the semi? I’m a truck driver and currently have a Mack anthem but I am very interested in the Tesla semi do you have any info?
I’m not sure about the Tesla semi I wanna say they said 2022 or 2023 but I really don’t know. But I have a question for you how much does it cost to fill your truck up? And what is going on with the trucks and the ships in the California harbor?
Also are you a cross country driver? If you are do you have the big sleeper on the truck?
Yup cross country and yes it’s the 70 sleeper. As far as fuel I have a 142 gallon tank on either side it’s hard to say for sure how much it costs to fill up because it’s different in each state but I can tell you it cost me $1,053 last time to fill up, this was several days ago. As far as California goes it’s the laws that is the problem not a shortage of drivers it’s the laws there. But oh well what can you do they made their bed now they will sleep in it.
You can thank the idiot in office for high gas prices and they will continue to go up.
I don’t get into politics much I have never voted but the gas issues are not all on the president. It is fair to say some of it is on him but it’s more then the president. I think they do need to do something about it a lot of truckers I talk to at stops have said they will stop driving soon if the prices continue to climb. If you fill up on the west coast it will exceed what I paid last week.
Yeah, the batteries weight so much there’s no room for freight. Stupid idea from an egomaniacal moron.
These numbers don’t reflect a lack of desire for the vehicles, but rather you can’t buy what isn’t available. GM steered the components they did have to the highly profitable vehicles, it stands to reason that that numbers where going to fall. I was surprised they were as good as they were in the previous quarter. You look at lots or jump on the net and there simply isn’t much new available. Brand loyalty and preferred choice of vehicles is taking a back seat (way back) to what is actually available for those that need to buy now.
I don’t know. I mean I do agree that Chevy just didn’t have product on the lots, but their product still isn’t that great imho. This has hurt them even more then they think. Chevy (Besides trucks ) is now “Out of sight, out of mind”. I don’t know 1 person including myself who has a Chevy on their list for their next car. In fact most I talk to won’t consider a GM product. The SUV’s with the 3.6’s are known to have issues and the Equinox and Traverse need a complete makeover to compete. With the Malibu and Camaro going away soon nothing there to talk about and not everyone can have a Vette. Meanwhile you have more reliable competitors at close to the same prices and available on lots, most will buy them over a Chevy.
Metalbourne: I’d refer you to Consumer Report and JDP. Chevrolet is doing quite well and has been for some time. Buick is doing better yet and has been for many years.
Sounds to me like you drive an import brand and just trying to throw shade.
No, I drive 2 Chrysler products atm and have owned 15 GM cars in my life time. So what you’re saying is there was no transmission issues or problems with the 3.6? Even if there isn’t an issue that’s not the perception of GM right now among buyers. My entire family used to be a GM family. Now only 1 uncle owns a GMC truck. I was a diehard GM fan and still is of the Corvette and Camaro (I owned 6 of them) but they really have no cars left. They don’t make sport versions of any of their products except high end stuff, and their SUV’s are ho-hum at best. They also cut corners like crazy and every model year seems more options are taken away and the price goes up. Hell, they can’t even paint the rear bumpers on the Traverse unless you get top trims lol. Right now they are in huge trouble because of lack of product on the lots and pricing.
That must be why they outsold Ford last year, huh?
If you think this is bad, wait until GM goes all electric. Looks like the increase in sales was only in SUVs and Corvette. Don’t see myself buying an electric Corvette anytime soon.
If you only have X amount of computer chips, you put them in the vehicles that make the most money. Seems like common sense for anyone that wants to stay in business… Did you notice profit is up for 2021, over 2020. The GMC brand is also up in 2021, as they have more profitable vehicles.
What’s up with all you cowards on this website who constantly praise these filthy rich CEO’s and politicians do none of you cowards have a spine? You praise these people who could care less about you it’s sad it really is. I hope none of you have kids because if you do you aren’t making the world better for them you are making it worse. I have never seen so many cowards in one place.
What are you referring to?
#FJB!
You can’t have sales increase when dealers do not have any inventory on their lots.
Chip shortage, maybe or is it a way for dealers to drive up prices, we’ll never know the truth.
chevey better wake up you better keep up with the competition iwas a chevey owner for thirty years and bought a Ram
truck because chevey did not offer what Ram did and the 22/s are still short of good things if you want me back as a chevey
owner start competing you cannot live on a REP,
What is “chevey”? Is that your cousin?
just pasted our local Chevy dealer ,, there were No cars 5 suv’s and 8 trucks , do you think that may be the reason Chevy sale are down .
Yep. Same reason Ford is down, and Chrysler and Mercedes and Rolls Royce and Kia and Toyota…
