Braun Wheelchair-Accessible Chevy Traverse Recalled Due To Transmission Leak

Braun Corporation has issued a product safety recall for certain examples of the 2020 and 2021 model-year Chevy Traverse equipped with its power-in-floor wheelchair ramp conversion.

The problem: affected vehicles may have a condition where the screw and clip that hold the inner wheel-well plastic shroud in place may chafe against the transmission case, possibly resulting in a transmission fluid leak.

The hazards: a transmission fluid leak could cause total transmission failure if the fluid depletes to a low enough level. If this happens, there may be a sudden loss of drive power, which can increase the risk of a crash. A leak in the presence of an ignition source also increases the risk of a fire.

The fix: dealers will be instructed to replace the screw and clip that holds the inner wheel-well liner and inspect for signs of contact with the transmission. This repair will be performed at no cost to the vehicle owner.

Affected components: inner wheel-well liner, wheel-well liner screw and clip, transmission.

Affected vehicles:

Number of affected vehicles: a total of 639 vehicles could potentially have this condition.

Next steps: owner notification letters regarding this recall are expected to be mailed out on December 17th, 2021.
