2022 Silverado Interior: Are You Satisfied With The Updates?

With its refresh of the 2022 Silverado 1500, Chevy addressed what was probably the biggest criticism of its best-selling vehicle: an uninspired cabin.

Announced along with a new front end design for the pickup truck and introduction of the all-new Silverado ZR2, the refreshed 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 features a completely overhauled cabin. That includes a revamped center stack that replaces the previous 8-inch display with a much larger 13.4-inch widescreen infotainment display, making it one of the biggest in its class.

The new center touchscreen complements the Silverado’s first-ever, fully configurable 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, which replaces the pre-refresh truck’s analog gauges separated by a 4.2-inch driver information display (DIC).

The new infotainment setup also includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, as well as built-in tech features from Google, such as Google Assistant, Google Maps, and Google Play.

2019-2021 Silverado 1500 (and 2022 Silverado 1500 Limited) High Country interior

The user interface of the 13.4-inch center touchscreen in the 2022 Silverado interior stretches horizontally across the dash and is split into three general sections. The left side of the screen is occupied by soft buttons (digital icons), the center section features icons to control the display, while the right side hosts elements like map and/or route guidance directions.

A physical Home button and volume knob are housed just below the screen. To their right resides a bank of switches for various vehicle functions, such as automatic engine start/stop, parking settings, controls for the truck’s differentials, and more. Below that resides a separate panel that houses the vehicle’s HVAC controls along with a pair of USB ports (including one USB-C port and one USB-A port).

Refreshed 2022 Silverado 1500 High Country interior

The center screen itself is mounted using a “floating” design motif that lifts it out of the center stack. An air vent is integrated on the left for the driver, and a storage bin is placed behind the screen. An air vent for the front passenger is present, but in a recessed fashion from the center infotainment screen housing.

Customers will also be able to equip their 2022 Silverado with GM’s semi-autonomous Super Cruise driver assist system on the High Country trim level. Notably, the Super Cruise will feature assisted trailering capabilities on the 2022 Silverado.

The all-new 2022 Silverado interior is standard on LT trim levels and above (LT Trail Boss, RST, ZR2, LTZ, High Country). However, any 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 trim levels below LT (Work Truck, Custom, and Custom Trail Boss) will retain the 7-inch center stack display and 3.5-inch vehicle information display, as they did prior to the refresh.

With the all-new 2022 Silverado interior, Chevy undoubtedly hopes to better serve customers while quieting those who criticized the interior used on the 2019, 2020, 2021 and the non-refreshed 2022 Silverado Limited models. Critics opined that the cabin of the pre-refreshed Silverado models paled next to the current generation Ram 1500, which features a large 12-inch vertical center display on certain trim levels instead of the standard 8.4-inch screen. The large screen in the Ram truck offered an undeniable “wow factor” that the Silverado simply couldn’t offer when both trucks launched for the 2019 model year.

So, did GM succeeded in updating the Silverado interior with the 2022 model year refresh? Vote in the poll below.

  1. New interior pictures are nice. Interior looks like it belongs with the rest of the truck. The picture of the old interior is quite sad. No idea why it took GM almost a decade to realize the luxury trend I’m trucks and match Ram.

    1. Need more interior colors, shouldn’t have to pay 80k for brown interior. Also, screen is to small. The grills on both Silvy and GMC are both ugly. I’m gonna skip the refresh and wait for next generation in 2025.

      3. More color options for the interior would be great, but I disagree with you on screen size. If you need a screen any bigger than this it might be time to visit your eye doctor. Not sure about some of the other functions but maps can be viewed in split screen as shown, or you can choose full screen using the entire 13.4″. Personally I prefer the more integrated screens in the GM trucks vs the protruding in your face style of some of the competition.

      4. I’m with you. The screen is too small. It’s wide but they should have put a screen like the ram/f150/tundra. This feels like one of the thin SUV screens. The loyalists will love it… It’s better than what it was but it’s not better than the competition.

    1. Price is a funny thing. Especially if you cross shop all vehicles. I’m more of a sedan driver. A luxury truck price is crazy when you start there. Looking for a new daily a Cadillac ct5 ct4 or Lexus IS,ES. Is on the list but the price of those you aren’t far off from SUV prices and then at that point I feel you more for your money with a truck. But I would almost never get the proper use of a truck and then I’m back at looking at cheap entry level sedans. Bottom line everything is pricey

I managed to pickup a past-model 2020 CT4 Sport AWD, loaded, MSRP 51,200, (Canadian) brand new, and with GM dealer discounts and the my GM employee price, I got it out the door for $39,600 (Canadian). It’s an absolutely excellent car, it’s a real shame more people don’t try a Cadillac. I would recommend it to you.

        1. Cadillac is not a luxury vehicle. It’s more like a Acura or Mazda. The infotainment is very problematic and all the shared parts makes it look and feel cheap.

          1. Infotainment in my CT4 is excellent. CUE (which i admit was a total f-up) is long gone. Almost all the reviews I have read say Cadillac Infotainment is among the best in the industry today. Try it yourself and see what you think.

        2. I’m old school, at one time many moons ago you could immediately recognize a Caddy or for that matter the wannabe Caddy, a Lincoln. Now you have to get close enough to read the name, even the wreath that surrounded the shield is gone. Except for the grill there’s not much difference in the looks of any car, and sometimes the grills look close enough that it’s hard to tell.

    2. All three major truck companies are pretty much in that price range unless you buy one of the lower priced standard trucks. Ford is even higher priced for the F150 with all the available features. You might as well excepted it as it’s not going to stop. Competition between the three has caused this. Just like back in the 70s when the four Jap brands of motorcycles were competing for the fasted bike. One year it was Honda, the next it was Yamaha, then Kawasaki had the fastest, and then it Suzuki. Every year they got faster and faster.
That old saying “competition is good for the consumer” is wrong. It just drives the price up and they come out with more gadgets that will be more things to break down.

    4. I don’t understand why everyone is so up in arms about the pricing. Who would have thought a HIGH Country would be priced HIGH?

Can’t afford it, then don’t buy it simple as that. An LT or RST is still very well equipped and costs thousands less. It’s a luxury trim level, it’s not for everyone, and it’s not supposed to be. In fact the pricing is right in line with the competition, so what’s the problem?

  12. As a Ford guy, I think the new interior is great. Actually competes with the F-Series and Ram trucks. The new infotainment system also looks to be a win for GM. My only knock is that bar that runs under the giant screen looks simolar to the new F150, but overall its a massive upgrade. I never understood how people could justify the cost of a high country from 19-21 with a work truck looking interior.

    Reply
    1. The biggest issue with the 19-22 LTD interior is that it’s a poor refresh of a pretty clean K2 design.

The 21+ F150 interior is very nice – but I didn’t mind the previous gen Ford either. Found it to be a clean, functional design. Having owned both GM and Ford trucks of this vintage, the only real difference was the materials (better on GM) and the dash cluster I preferred on the Ford (better driver information center).

I wish GM would go back to a rotary dial shifter for the 4×4 system. The buttons are just too small. If they’re going to do buttons, at least go it as the later GMT-400s had (large, clear easy to reach)

      Reply
  13. Yup, looks good. But let’s be honest, GM have really lost the game here. There is no reason they couldn’t have had this interior in 2019! And now Ram is outselling Silverado. Blazer is a total bust, overpriced. No reason GM couldn’t have given us a K15 Blazer inspired truck, like Fords Bronco and Bronco Sport which are killing it. Mustang Mach E electric selling well, while GM Bolts are quarantined on dealer lots awaiting battery retrofits. Fords new Mustang truck will be another segment buster. What do we get from GM? Nothing! Ford are already taking orders for the Lightning Electric F150, and GM won’t even show us what the E Silverado looks like until year. Are you kidding me? And Mary Barra won some kind of person of the year award?

“No reason GM couldn’t have given us a K15 Blazer inspired truck, like Fords Bronco” not everyone wants a marked-up Billy truck thats non existing on lots,

” Bronco Sport which are killing it. Mustang Mach E electric selling well while GM Bolts are quarantined on dealer lots awaiting battery retrofits.” Despite that Mach E still trails behind Bolt, the battery issue slowed GM, what’s Ford excuse?, I’ll give you the Bronco Sport.

Fords new Mustang truck will be another segment buster. What do we get from GM? Nothing! Ford are already taking orders for the Lightning Electric F150, and GM won’t even show us what the E Silverado”

    1. The Silverado shakes on every bump

    2. I won’t argue that Rams ride better, but with those coil springs you really suffer in the payload department. Some higher trim levels ended up being rated below 1000 lbs for payload, which is less than a lot of crossovers. From my experience they don’t handle as well with heavy payloads as Ford or GM either.

Honestly while Ford and GM do ride a bit stiffer, you still can’t complain about the ride quality – it’s pretty phenomenal. These are trucks after all and I’ll compromise a little bit of smoothness for some capability. Just my 2 cents.

  19. Since the Silverado/Sierra pickups combined have outsold the F-150 and the RAM in 2020, and will do so again in 2021, the interior changes, which are very well executed, are a nice to have, not a must have.

I’m glad GM stayed away from a giant portrait touchscreen that upper Trim F-150s and RAMs have. It’s much better integrated with the rest of the dash.

Like Super Cruise on the 2021 is only available on the High Country 1500. It’s not available on the 2500 or 3500 trucks. And I think the Ultimate Cruise will only be available on the 22 High Country. AT least that’s what my sale rep told me when I was ordering my 22 3500 crew cab long bed LTZ dually. I ordered it back on Sep. 3rd. but then canceled it so I can reorder in Feb. for the REFRESHED 22 instead. And I still won’t be able to get the Ultimate cruise on a 2500 or 3500. Which would be nice since the dually’s back tires only leave you about a foot on either side of the lane.

      Reply
      1. Sorry to tell you but you’ve been significantly misinformed. The heavy duty truck you ordered and cancelled will not be getting an update for the 22 model year. Only the 1500 series. Additionally, Uptra Cruise is not available in any GM model. In a couple years when it is finally available, it’ll be Cadillac only for a period. Maybe the 2025 new models will be available with Ultra Cruise.

As an example I was Westbound in the driving lane on Interstate 80 at the Salt Flats between Salt Lake City and Wendover the night before last. It was a moonless dark night. Near Bonneville Raceway for you race fans.

I was driving a Ford F250 Diesel at 70 mph with cruise control on. Roadway was asphalt, in excellent condition, clear, dry, no fog, ambient temp was approximately 45 degrees, time at approx. 9:00 pm MST.

Suddenly the loaded heavy truck in front of me flipped on it’s side in a strange slight dead stop in the driving lane about 200 feet in front of me.

Thank God the goods on the truck did not spill over into the passing lane.

My reflexes were quick and I jerk steered and immediately corrected into the passing lane to avoid impact. Thank God the passing lane was clear. It all happened within a second or two.

If I was on a GPS vehicle control system, Super Cruise, AP, etc. we would have been toast.

GM should have brought that same approach to the Silv/Sierra with this 2022 interior in 2019. Then the 2022 MCR would’ve been the next evolution of that interior.

The Silv/Sierra team apparently sat on their laurels thinking it’s still the year 1999, while the Escalade team said “Oh my, the competition is fierce and is not waning. The Navigator is a real competitor and we’ve got others upping their game (X7, GLS, et al), so we need to come in BOLD and a revolutionary interior is how we’ll achieve that.”

The reason I personally prefer Ram’s interior is they offer the bucket seats at a much more affordable price. It doesn’t have that cheap plastic feel. The seats are more comfortable also. Ram has done a great job with upgrading their interior without making it feel too futuristic. It still feels practical. From the pictures, Chevy took it too far and went all futuristic. I’ve owned more Chevy trucks than any other vehicle. But, my current one just may be my last.

    2. The Ram reminds me of my 2016 Silverado, butt in an ugly way. I have a feeling you always had Dodge products.

  42. Will the high-end 2022 Yukon and Tahoe’s get these updates to the center display, as well? While the 22’s coming in appear to have the updated driver display, they don’t appear to have these larger displays in the center.

  43. People making negative comments here obviously have never driven the 2022 Silverado. I’m thinking you are either Ram or Ford fans or you can’t afford a new pickup. Even if a pickup could fly, someone would find something negative about it.

    1. WELL SAID YES THE FORD WITH THE WEAK ALUMINUM BODY AND THE RAM WHICH WILL NEED QUARTER PANELS IN TWO YEARS

    2. Paul: Amen to your comment. Go back to the days 35+ years ago when pickups were built solely for utility use aimed at commercial, industrial, agricultural, logging, construction, etc., users. Plain Jane totally practical and functional interiors. Not rolling living room cabins. Urban chariots loaded with a bazillion gee whiz digital gadgets. When are they going to equip with a mini microwave option? Excess sells and makes $$$ for the automakers.

      1. Absolutely. Next Ford and Ram will have toilets in their pickup

  44. Don’t laugh about on board vehicle toilets. Years ago an aftermarket vendor offered a side mount urinal affixed to the door for relief convenience to urban drivers using pickups and cars for delivery services. Nice handy little unit. Quick removal and install.

Wonder when they are going to offer as an option cupholders that have both heating and cooling capabilities. Maybe even an onboard coffee brewer.
    Excess sells.

Cadillac had a liquor bar with glasses in the lower dash back in the day, when America was America, and Cadillac was Cadillac, before Cadillac was yuppieized.

Please bring back the large, wide and deep cushioned comfortable bench seats in the pickups. My bone structure will thank you. Fondly remember when the automakers based ergonomic design engineering on the size of the average American versus the size of the average Asian.

    1. I was kidding! I’m not going to use my pickup as a toilet. Next thing you know I’ll be saying yehaw and listening to country music..

  45. Does the refreshed LT’s get the new tailgate as well?

  46. The bucket seats seem smaller to me. I also miss analog gauges, I prefer them and find them more reliable as compared to digital. But hey that is just me.

  47. The refresh was a nice attempt but still pales In comparison to the RAM. I bought a 2022 RST brand new and was so unimpressed that I sold it in 4 months and bought a used 2021 RAM Rebel with 10k miles, the 12.1 screen, panoramic sunroof and air suspension and never looked back. You’d think GM would’ve taken a RAM and told their design team to deconstruct it and make an interior that is better. Unfortunately as is the case with all GM styling as of late it’s only a half baked attempt at best. The new infotainment screen lacks split screen functionality and the Google feature is nice but requires a subscription after 30 days effectively rendering the system useless. The styling is so underwhelming I actually came to loathe the truck when I got in and it made me miss my 2018 Silverado. All in this is another failed attempt from GM but it should placate the GM loyalists and limp this truck along . If you want something that is exciting and fun to drive…..get the RAM!

  48. My wife was a loyal GMC pickup buyer for her horse business. She now has a RAM because of the luxurious interior and the superior ride. She rode in several RAMs her friends had and that did it.

  49. What happened to interior color choices? Black is wost color ever and dirt/dust show easily. Very impractical. Count me out.

    1. Issue with almost every brand. They are reserving unique exterior and interior colors for high line models to justify the extra price. Buy a mid line truck you get black/white/gray/silver on the outside and black or gray on the inside

      1. Gray/black is what sells. Dealers found out that when they ordered the alternative colors those where the ones that sat the longest.

      2. Why would you put a high end interior with leather and wood trim in a work truck contractors would destroy it
