The 2022 Cadillac XT4 arrives as the fourth model year for the first-generation luxury crossover nameplate, introducing a few small changes and updates compared to the previous 2021 model year. Among these is the addition of a new Comfort Package.
The new Comfort Package for the 2022 Cadillac XT4 is tagged with RPO code Y55, and will be offered with late availability on 2022 Cadillac XT4 Premium Luxury and Sport trim levels. Pricing information has thus been unannounced.
The 2022 Cadillac XT4’s new Comfort Package includes the following content (relevant RPO codes listed in parentheses):
- 8-way power passenger seat adjuster (A7K)
- Driver and front passenger ventilated seats (KU9)
- Leather seating surfaces
Note that the leather seating surfaces are only included when equipped on the Sport trim level.
The new Comfort Package for the 2022 Cadillac XT4 requires inclusion of the Cold Weather Package (RPO code Y19), the latter of which includes the following content:
- Heated driver and front passenger seats (KA1)
- Heated rear outboard seating position seats (KA6)
- Automatic heated steering wheel (KI3)
Essentially, the 2022 Cadillac XT4’s new Comfort Package adds a power front passenger seat and ventilated front seats at a lower price point than with the Comfort And Convenience Package (RPO code WPC). To note, the Comfort And Convenience Package includes the following content:
- Driver power lumbar massage (AF6)
- Front passenger power lumbar massage (AKE)
- Driver seat 4-way power lumbar control (AVK)
- Front passenger seat 4-way power lumbar control (AVU)
Further updates for the 2022 Cadillac XT4 include the deletion of three exterior colors, specifically Shadow Metallic (paint code GJI), Garnet Metallic (paint code GLR), and Autumn Metallic (paint code GM6).
Additionally, the 2022 Cadillac XT4 discontinues the red brake calipers (RPO code J6F) previously introduced for the 2021 model year. Finally, the 2022 Cadillac XT4 is set to introduce Inteluxe, General Motors’ latest leatherette seat upholstery brand.

Yawn.
It still has the 9 speed trans which makes it a huge no-go for me. The CT4 and CT5 both drive significantly better than the XT4 and for a price that is lower or about the same.
What’s the problem with the 9-speed? Great performance and fuel economy out of it.
jonnyd84: Have you driven one with the 9 speed? If you did and you still like it, why? If you haven’t driven one, go do so. I had two different XT4 loaner cars (both 2021’s) when my CT4 was in for the noise they couldn’t find. I had each one for several days and couldn’t wait to get the CT4 back. When that dealer couldn’t locate the very simple problem, I finally took it to my selling dealership (they found/fixed the noise in one day). Since we didn’t know how long they would have my CT4, they gave me a loaner too, but I asked for an XT5 that time. Better driving than the XT4, but still wasn’t a fan of the trans. There’s just no need for that many gears no matter what anyone says. It doesn’t give you any better MPG than what a larger car got back in 1988 with a 4 speed. It certainly doesn’t feel as good as it’s constantly shifting. The only thing it does is add costs and complexity. No thanks.
I’m a sales person at a gmc Buick Cadillac store. I’ve driven them plenty of times. I have no problem with the performance.
Wow. And you would take that over the 8 speed or the much preferred 6 speed in some of the Buick’s? How long have you been working there? Do you have experience with the “performance” of the older 4 speeds? Or have you been there for just the newer cars like the XT4? I find it very difficult to believe that a person could drive an XT4 and think that’s ok.
To top that off, that thing has enough ugly black plastic around the entire car to make a Mazda proud. The XT4 is a really sad example of what a Cadillac should be. And I’m about as much of a Cadillac fan as you could ever find.
I’ve been in the business with gm for 12 years. Yes I’ve experienced the anemic 4 speed and 5 speed, I’ve driven many vehicles with the 6 speed. The 8 speed shutter, and gear hunting and lag is so performance oriented it blew me away.
Are you serious? The 9 speed is heads and shoulders above all those other transmissions.
jonnyd84: I’m in sales now still after nearly 19 years total. I work with Volvo and Mazda now, but have sold Ford, Chevy, Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep. I’ve sold GM (Buick, Cadillac, GMC and Honda) for 12 years at one store and then Cadillac alone for about 15 more months. I’ve been around cars with the 3 speed auto with a torque converter, the early 4 speeds, then the electronic versions (4L60 and 4L80E’s). I’ve experienced Ford’s 5 speeds. I’ve owned more recently a Buick with the 6 speed (my favorite of all), the CT4 with the 8 speed and now a Volvo with their 8 speed (maybe one of the best transmissions I’ve ever experienced). I may not like Mazda, but their 6 speed auto seems to be about perfect and Mazda gets a lot of praise from the automotive press. The point in all this is that I come to the table with a lot of experience, so I’m not just talking out of my behind. So I guess I can say that we can agree to disagree on this 9 speed and the XT4 overall. But what I will say is that I’ve never in my life driven a vehicle that I found to be like those two XT4’s were. Terrible transmission with confusion in up and down shifting. Suspensions that crashed over bumps/dips even at very slow speeds. Touch screen at one of the worst angles I’ve ever seen and an interior that is not well designed. I was never so happy to get back into my CT4! Like I said above, on the third trip to the dealership I specifically asked to NOT get an XT4. Instead, they gave me an XT5 which was better (maybe due to the V6?). However, I still wouldn’t have traded my CT4 even up for that XT5. The most recent 4 speed was in an old used 2006 Buick Lucerne. Unlike the XT4’s, that 4 speed was smooth, never in the wrong gear, never felt like it was “slugish”, and performed flawlessly with 168,000 miles on the clock. Even with the V8 and 4 speed, that car got as good or better MPG than what those XT4’s got running a 9 speed and 4 cyl. How is that progress?
Oh well, it doesn’t matter because GM isn’t going back and I’m not about to purchase anything (GM or other) with a 9 speed or more. Even if GM took all that ugly black plastic off the XT4, and re-designed the interior, I wouldn’t buy one based on just how it drove.
Dan, read Chevy Guy below. Seems to me you are not an SUV(CUV) guy. Stick to your 4 wheel sedan if that’s what you like.
Mich1: I did read his post and all the others. As far as being an SUV guy? My first true SUV was back in 2001 when I purchased my first one: Jeep Cherokee. Ever since then, I’ve had cars, trucks and SUV/CUV’s. My most recent was a 2018 Buick Encore that was an extremely good vehicle. It’s one of the first vehicles that I actually wish I would have kept. Before that was a 2016 Jeep Patriot. Both had a 6 speed auto and both were so much better (trans) than those two XT4’s I drove. In the past when I was still selling Cadillac (as recent as 2014), I really liked the SRX (now XT5). So what has changed? Not much other than that 9 speed. So I’m not just about sedans. In fact, I’ve already picked out my next ride based on brand, where it’s assembled, and the fact that I can get at least 35 miles on all electric. That is the 2022 Ford Escape Titanium. Already driven one and it’s way nicer to drive than those XT4’s were. My only wish? That Ford will offer the 2022 with all painted molding instead of the ugly black around the wheels/bottom.
The fact that you think that the Kleenex box Jeep patriot was a better riding vehicle than a Cadillac xt4 solidifies my opinion that you know nothing about vehicles.
I own a XT4 2020 very picky on cars after several trip for service this car is great the perfect size car for two to 4 people. It is the Sport with all the options. Transmission is very smooth.
jonnyd84: Ref your (stupid) comment about me not knowing anything about cars only shows me that you are a pawn that will say anything to sell a car. I’m not that way. Cadillac is one of my all time favorite brands and probably will be forever. The fact that you didn’t actually READ what I said also shows me that you are just out for a fight. So let me say it again: Both the Encore and the Patriot with the 6 speed trans!!! were better than those two XT4’s I had to endure for several weeks. I didn’t say the Patriot rode better than the XT4, but now that you mention it at least the Patriot didn’t crash over the bumps and dips like the suspension of a worn out Corolla.
The XT4 is not what a Cadillac should be and it’s showing in the sales numbers before the micro chip inventory shortages. Others must be test driving them but buying other brands, and I can see why.
wow , i recently had much experience with both a 6 speed and 9 speed trans in GM crossovers.
I had a 2019 Equinox premier AWD 1.5L with a 6 speed . after 160,000 klms it still worked well and no issue . The vehicle shifted as expected and performed well . I replaced the ‘Nox with a 2021 Terrain AWD 1.5L and the 9 speed , i also have a 2020 Equinox AWD 2.0L with the 9 speed
Both 9 speeds are much more satisfying to drive. The Terrain with the 1.5L was quieter and had much better power delivery on the highway and around town from the same 1.5L engine versus the 6 speed 1.5L ‘Nox. It was unbelievable how much better the power felt with the 9 speed in the Terrain versus the 6 speed in the Nox with the same engine.
Of course neither can match the driving pleasure of the 2.0L 9 speed AWD drive in my midnight addition ‘Nox. There is no substitute for the added ponies up front ! Both 9 speeds i have experienced work very well. Come to think of it My brother also have a 2.0l Envision with the 9 spd and he is very satisfied.
Totally agree with you Dan. Caddy is slipping with substance and also style, going backwards.
