Watch The 2022 Chevy Silverado ZR2 Reveal: Video

The fully refreshed 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 introduces a range of impressive updates and changes over the pre-refresh 2021 model year and 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 Limited, not the least of which is the debut of the new Chevy Silverado ZR2 off-roader. Now, fans can relive the 2022 Chevy Silverado ZR2 reveal with the following video.

The video clocks in at just under 16 minutes, and kicks off with an introduction from the Director of Chevrolet Truck Marketing, Kelly MacDonald.

“We’ve had so much success with Colorado ZR2 at the dealership and on the racing circuit, we decided to build on that legacy,” MacDonald says. “Enter the 2022 Silverado ZR2, Chevy’s flagship off-road truck and the latest addition to our factory lifted truck lineup.”

The production 2022 Chevy Silverado ZR2 follows Chevy’s collaboration with Chad Hall Racing, which took the new off-roader to the limit in 10 pro racing events since 2019. Notably, the production 2022 Chevy Silverado ZR2 and Silverado ZR2 race machine share a bevy of components, including the frame, transmission, transfer case, and naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 engine.

“This truck handles off-road driving confidently, without sacrificing on-road handling, or trailering capabilities,” says Executive Chief Engineer, Chevrolet Full-Size Trucks, Jaclyn McQuaid.

Part of the 2022 Chevy Silverado ZR2’s impressive off-roading capabilities come down to its new exterior design, including a new front bumper that increases approach angle up to 31.8 degrees. The new Silverado ZR2 also boasts 11.2 inches of ground clearance, with a break over angle of 23.4 degrees, and a departure angle of 23.3 degrees. Underneath the body, the Silverado ZR2 also comes equipped with robust skid plates that protect important mechanical components while bashing around on the trails.

As for the suspension upgrades, the Silverado ZR2 is equipped with MultiMatic DSSV dampers, which incorporate three separate spool valves and three connected fluid flow chambers for superior damping control.

The off-roader also comes with Terrain Mode, adding even more capability with one-pedal driving for loads of confidence, even in highly technical terrain.

Indeed, the 2022 Chevy Silverado ZR2 has a lot to offer. Check out the full reveal video below for all the highlights.

    3. Yeah, how dare GM put in people like the chief engineer and the director of marketing in a video. Who let them out of the kitchen, anyway?

  2. What I don’t get is why they don’t supply the 10spd with all engines. The 8spd is on the 5.3L and 2.7L turbo.

    1. Price and weight. The extra clutch pack and active fluid reservoir add a little weight and complexity. If you add in the single speed transfer case, as well, your looking at savings of almost 100 lbs and 250$. Every little bit counts. Earlier this year I compared a Ford F150XL 4×4 with the 2.7 to a Silverado custom, also with the 2.7 I4. The simplicity of the I4, 8 vs 10 speed, and steel body meant that the Silverado was almost 10K cheaper, and still a bit nicer looking truck as it actually came with alloy wheels. It’s penny pinching.
