The GM Authority Take

GM Mexico sales posted another significant decline in August, delivering 4,606 fewer units compared to the same month last year. As such, the negative performance in July represents GM’s second consecutive decline in the Mexican market, after the 24 percent decrease in July.

As in July, the notable fall in August was once again due to the discontinuation of the Chevy Beat – the company’s best-selling model in the Latin country during the last few years. Similarly, most GM nameplates sold less units in August on an annual basis, including the new Chevy Onix and Chevy Tracker, as a result of lower unit availability due to semiconductor shortages.

By contrast, sales of the Chevy Aveo increased at a higher rate of 97 percent. The model thereby establishes itself as GM Mexico’s best-selling vehicle. The subcompact sedan, imported from China, is currently the most affordable vehicle the company offers in Mexico. Additionally, the new 2022 Chevy Captiva marked its second-best month in the Mexican market after setting its current record of 1,580 deliveries in July.
