Dark Sky Metallic No Longer Available On 2022 GMC Sierra Limited Regular Cab

The 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Limited was introduced as a stopgap model that bridges the pre-refresh 2021 model year and the as-of-yet-unreleased fully refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. The Sierra Limited is offered with the same trim levels, options, and colors as the 2021 model year. Now, however, the 2022 GMC Sierra Limited Regular Cab is no longer available in Dark Sky Metallic.

The Dark Sky Metallic exterior color for the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Limited is tagged with paint code GJI, and was previously offered on all trim levels of the interim-model-year pickup. It’s currently unclear how many regular cab Sierra Pro orders were processed with this paint color for the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Limited, if any at all.

The refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 has been delayed as the result of multiple factors, including the ongoing global microchip shortage, as well as the COVID-19 pandemic. As such, the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Limited arrives with more or less identical specs and options as the previous 2021 model year, helping to bridge the gap to the full model refresh expected late in the model year.

That said, there are a few changes and updates worth pointing out. For starters, the base-level Sierra 1SA trim level was renamed to Pro, while the naturally aspirated 4.3L V6 LV3 gasoline engine and naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L82 gasoline engine were both deleted from the powerplant lineup. The six-speed automatic transmission (MYC) was also deleted.

Engine options that are offered include the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine, the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine, naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, and the 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax. Transmission options including the 8-speed automatic and the 10-speed automatic, with either rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive to put the power down. Under the skin, the GMC Sierra rides on the GM T1 platform.

  2. You don’t say why the paint color is no longer available. The real reason

  3. Saw a 1500 up close for really the first time as I walked by with my dog. It was black. The body panel gaps were super tight and followed the curves of the doors precisely. GM has come a very long way on fitment. I thought more attractive in person than photos. Photos it looks a bit garish.

  5. gm is making it hard to buy a truck . I ordered a 2022 with the 3.0 duramax in the dark sky mettallic,
they have discontinued both options It’s almost like they don’t want to sell vehicles. Yet we read all the propaganda of the wonderful new products Gm is introducing and all the great things they are doing.. Yet If you drive by a dealers Lot they are Empty GM has a serious disconnect from reality somewhere.

    1. The 3.0 Duramax isn’t discontinued. Its just on constraint until they’re able to get more parts to produce them.. in fact, they have already announced the changes they made to the baby Duramax for the 2022 year model… GM and every other company is dealing with supplynissues.. NONE of the lots around me have ANY trucks.. GM, Ford, or FiatDodgeStellanis..

  6. I fully agree. They don’t make sedans (like I want) any more, supposedly only trucks/ SUVs. eliminating convertibles, two doors, no more 6-cyl engines as they phase these out, vehicles for the younger crowd gone which forces them over to buy Toyotas and Hondas, etc. Hell, nothing left at GM to buy anymore. And now they have no stock of any kind because they outsource everything to China including more of their factory operations. Disgustingly, I may have to buy a foreign make! I might as well sell all my GM stock as well! The foreign brands can now pick up a lot of business.
