Finding the right fit when it comes to a comfortable cabin space can be tricky, especially for particularly tall drivers. Now, according to one recent report, the Chevy Bolt EV has been deemed among the top ten worst cars for tall drivers.
Per a recent analysis performed by the nonprofit consumer organization Consumer Reports, the Chevy Bolt EV was listed among nine other vehicles currently on the market as being a tight fit for tall drivers. The conclusion was determined via a Consumer Reports analysis of scores posted by recently tested vehicles, focusing on a range of parameters, including ease of ingress and egress, driving position, seat comfort, and visibility. The tallest Consumer Reports tester providing said scores is 6-foot, 2-inches tall.
According to the organization, the other nine worst cars for tall drivers include the Mazda MX-5 Miata, Toyota Tacoma, Toyota Supra, Porsche 718 Boxster, Jeep Gladiator, Hyundai Veloster, Polestar 2, Jeep Wrangler, and Honda Insight. The organization also listed the top ten best cars for tall drivers, including the BMW 7 Series, Porsche Cayenne, BMW X7, Honda Pilot, and Audi A8, among others.
Interestingly, Consumer Reports also took a look at the top ten worst cars for short drivers, which included three General Motors vehicles, including the Chevy Camaro, the Chevy Colorado, and the GMC Canyon.
General Motors introduced the sixth model year for the Chevy Bolt EV back in February, dropping cover on the refreshed all-electric crossover / hatchback alongside the all-new 2022 Chevy Bolt EUV, the latter of which introduces a more practical body style for the nameplate.
Specs include a 65-kWh lithium-ion battery pack, which provides juice to a single electric drive motor. Range per charge is rated at 259 miles, while output is rated at 200 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque. Under the skin, the 2022 Chevy Bolt EV rides on the GM BEV2 platform.

Makes sense. You’re sitting on the battery (that probably takes up 6-12 inches) and it’s in a car (not SUV) form factor. That’s probably why the Polestar 2 is also on the list.
The Bolt’s battery does raise the seat height, but in a good way. It does not at all compromise headroom or entry/exit to the vehicle as the rest of the vehicle profile is also raised. That’s part of the reason many Americans don’t like the “look” of the Bolt. It’s more narrow and taller than most other compact hatchbacks. It’s more practical though.
I’m over 6’2 and drove a Bolt, I felt comfortable in it, CR is BS…
It’s such a hot car I want to buy one
CR is always negative on American vehicles especially GM
Nothing surprising from the Japanese loving CR. They’ve been anti GM for as long as I can remember.
I agree. Big guy, 6’1”. Find our 2022 Bolt EUV comfortable. Also think sight lines / visibility are great.
Also, I’ve been driving since the 1960s and rarely found Consumer Reports of any value on automobile matters.
I’m 6’3″…. I LOVE my Bolt.
It’s larger on the inside than it is on the outside.!
I lease a Bolt and I’m 6’2″. I don’t need the seat all the way back and have plenty of extra space above my head. It actually has more maximum legroom and headroom for the driver than my full-sized ’94 Cadillac Fleetwood (w/sunroof), and it’s easier to get in and out of due to the high seating position. The Caddy is still far more comfortable overall due to the seats and extra width, but that has nothing to do with driver height. Visibility isn’t great due to the double A-pillar, but that has nothing to do with being tall, either. I also own a Spark EV which has enough headroom but I have to have the seat all the way back to have barely comfortable legroom. So somehow a the smaller Spark is not on the list?? This list just further shows that Consumer Reports has highly unreliable reporting.
In my 2017 Bolt the headroom is more than any car I have ever owned and I am 70. It is a little tight getting in and out cause my knees aren’t as flexible as they used to be. The seat comfort seems fine.
Consumer reports with these obscure reports 🤦🏼♂️
Don’t read them if you don’t like them.
Nobody here probably did read CR. Like myself we just read this article here on gmauthority by Jonathan Lopez just now or else none of us would have even been aware of CR stating this.
Once again, Consumer Reports uses another excuse to bash GM. The most bias publication out there.
I’m 6’2″ and have tons of space. Not sure where CR is thinking here.
It is just another opportunity, likely made-up, for CR to bash GM. The score is now better than 10 to one against CU’s comment on here,
I’m 6’4″ and am a happy Bolt driver. What I read from Consumer Reports about cars makes me think they should get out of car testing completely and stick to other topics. Just seems they’re trying to be experts on too many subjects, and it shows.
Consumers Reports is at times ridiculous with their testing conclusions. I’m 6’2″, 195 lbs. and have owned my Bolt EV since it was new in 2017. Never had any thoughts of poor entry/exit. Headroom and legroom are excellent, I don’t know what they are complaining about. And back seat room is satisfactory as well for my body.
My only comfort complaint up front is the narrow seat cushion that is tight on the sides of the legs and butt. I understand the new Bolt EV and EUV have addressed this issue which has been shared by many other Bolt EV owners as well.
I love my Bolt. I can’t wait for the thing to self ignite!
………………..and in other news, Consumer Reports just released a statement: If you are stuck in the woods with no toilet paper, the worst thing to use for wiping your ars is poison ivy. Followed directly by the pages of CR!!
No idea where this comes from. I am 6’6″ tall and I bought the 2019 Bolt EV because it was the only one that was actually comfortable to drive. The gap in front of the shifter was a life saver, as my knee has room to relax comfortably without resting against anything.
My only complaints are with the mostly uncomfortable seats and the lack of adaptive cruise control.
Have a 2021 LT the seat temaons hard as a brick and stupidly high. The bottom is tilted back too far and not adjustable. There is PLENTY of room to lower the seat yet the idiots that designed them forgot how to make a seat comfortable. Far as head room goes nothing to compain about.
I’m 6’3″ 205 and have no issue with my bolts fit. CR missed the mark here. I enjoy driving and have driven it from Detroit to St. Louis, just wish it charged at 125kw instead if 50kw.
6’4″ 350lb the Bolt has tons of room inside. Maybe you are confused with the Volt that car is awfully small inside even with the seats all the way back, both drive and passenger are just awful. What sized people did they poll this statement from? 7 footers?
I’ve driven our 2019 Bolt for almost three years. I’m 6 foot 2 inches, 220#, and find the Bolt very comfortable, with plenty of headroom (front and rear). I checked all of this when I test drove it. I fit in every dimension up front, I can sit comfortably behind a driver’s seat adjusted for me. I don’t know how they reached the conclusions they did. Did they not adjust the seat, steering wheel, mirrors? Their conclusions just don’t make sense.
LOL. I call B.S. on this article. I could see this if they were talking about the Chevy VOLT, but the Bolt? Get outta here. The Bolt is extremely easy to get in and out of, and I’m 6′. It’s basically chair-height stepping in with no door sill lip at all, and the door opening is nice and big also. The Volt? You pretty much half to fold your body in unnatural ways to get into. I hit my shoulder on the roofline getting in every single time, while at the same time rubbing across the seat bottom and B pillar. The Bolt is an absolute dream for egress/ingress by comparison.
I was shocked to read this story.
I am six feet right inches tall and weigh 255 lbs. My neighbor owns a Chevy bolt. One day i was in his garage as he was explaining it to me. He stopped talking and said “get in the car and drive it”.
Folks , i had just purchased a Cadillac xt5. I spent MONTHS looking for a vehicle that would fit me. The xt5 first me fine. Mine does not have sun roof top. With the seat pushed back I have emough legroom.
I was really surprised that the 2017 Chevy bolt had almost the same interior feel to me. It’s a little narrower than the Cadillac xt5.
I’m 6’1″ with a 32 inch inseam. Fit fine in my 2020. Early Bolts i couldn’t fit.
