The GM Authority Take

Chevrolet Brazil sales suffered a dramatic decline in August, further deepening the negative behavior of the Bow Tie brand, which has taken it from first to sixth place among the best-selling auto firms in the South American country. The performance represents Chevy‘s third consecutive decline in the Brazilian market as well as its worst performance in recent decades, surpassing the negative record of 9,391 deliveries in July 2021.

As was the case during each of the last few months, the significant drop in August is due to a drastic decrease in sales of the Chevy Onix – which has been the best-selling vehicle in Brazil during the last six years. The subcompact car range lost that position due to the ongoing semiconductor shortage. Though GM resumed Onix production in Brazil on August 16th, these units will only begin to reach dealers at the end of September. As such, Chevrolet Brazil sales should stabilize and then begin to improve during the last quarter of the year.

By contrast, the Chevy S10 midsize pickup truck achieved a significant triple-digit increase in sales volume, making it the best-selling midsize pickup in Brazil as well as Chevy’s sales leader for the second month in a row. In addition, the Cruze and Bolt EV also posted healthy gains on a year-over-year basis in the Brazilian market.

Comments

  1. GMAuthority has commented on the fact but is missing to comment on the root cause of the dramatic drop in sales, which is the lack of components and micro-chips. The demand for vehicles in Brazil remains very strong and Chevrolet brand as well. But no cars to sell, unfortunatelly.
