The GM Authority Take

Chevrolet Argentina sales decreased significantly in August, further deepening the negative performance of the bowtie brand in the South American country. Last month’s substantial contraction represents the fourth consecutive decrease for Chevrolet sales in Argentina as a result of reduced availability of vehicles imported from Brazil due to production problems caused by the ongoing semiconductor shortage.

As such, the vast majority of the models offered by Chevrolet in Argentina posted notable double- and triple-digit drops in August. The negative behavior also applied to both the Chevy Onix, which is traditionally the Bow Tie’s sales leader, as well as the Chevy Cruze, which had become the brand’s best-seller over the last several months. That said, GM resumed Onix production on August 16th, so inventory should progressively improve in the coming months.

In contrast, the Chevy Tracker was the only model to post an uptick in sales volume, enabling it to become the brand’s best-selling vehicle during the month in the Argentine market. This represents the first time that the all-new subcompact crossover has led the brand’s sales in a South American country.
