The 2022Â GMC Sierra 1500 Limited is a stop-gap model until the refreshed 2022 Sierra 1500 arrives toward the end of the model year. One of the most popular questions we get at GM Authority is which assist steps (otherwise known as running boards) are offered on the half-ton pickup, so we’re outlining what they are and their availability in our guide here.
In all, there are nine assist steps for the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Limited. Some are installed at the factory while others are installed at the dealer (LPO-level items).

As GM Authority previously reported, GM faced a shortage of some assist steps due to supplier constraints earlier this year, but it appears that the situation has now been remedied.
To note, the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Limited is a continuation of the 2021 model year GMC Sierra. GM is currently developing a refresh, or mid-cycle update (MCE), of the GMC Sierra 1500, which will receive revised exterior styling, an overhauled interior, GM’s Super Cruise semi-autonomous driver assist system and other changes and updates.
The refreshed GMC Sierra 1500 was to launch in the beginning of the 2022 model year, so a Sierra 1500 Limited model based on the pre-update 2021 model year Sierra was introduced in its place. The Sierra 1500 Limited will run for a shortened model year and will carry over every aspect of the 2021 Sierra 1500, including models, trims and available options and features. As such, the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Limited will serve as a bridge to the updated model.
More information on the MCE GMC Sierra 1500 and its official arrival should come to light soon as its debut approaches, so be sure to subscribe to GM Authority for more GMC Sierra news, GMC news and constantly updated GM news coverage.
