The online configurator tool for the 2022 GMC Canyon has launched on GMC’s website, allowing prospective customers to build their own version of the mid-size pickup and view complete pricing.
The 2022 GMC Canyon continues mostly unchanged from the 2021 model year, which introduced a mild facelift with revised front and rear fascias, as well as a new off-road-focused AT4 trim level. Some of the admittedly minor changes applied to the 2022 GMC Canyon include the introduction of a new Denali Black Edition Package and an optional wireless charging feature for Denali models.
We used the configurator to create our own 2022 GMC Canyon and show readers what kind of options can be applied to the truck using the online tool. Our example truck is a Crew Cab, Short Box model in the AT4 trim level and equipped with the optional $3,195 Off-Road Performance Edition Package, which adds gloss black 17-inch wheels, a spray-on bedliner, all-weather floor mats, Black AT4 badges, a front leveling kit, additional underbody skid plates, a front air dam deletion and a black chrome exhaust tip. We also selected the Desert Sand exterior color, Jet Black/Kalahari cloth interior color and opted for the naturally aspirated 3.6L V6 LGZ engine instead of the 2.8L I4 LWN turbodiesel Duramax. Our example truck would ring in at $43,975, including a $1,195 destination and freight charge.
Production of the 2022 GMC Canyon and 2022 Chevy Colorado was previously set to begin at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri on August 26th, 2021. The global chip shortage then pushed the production start date back to September 20th before GM extended it once more to September 27th. The production delays have led to a severe shortage of the mid-size trucks on GM dealer lots, with Colorado inventory falling to a critically low seven-day supply in the first week of September.
The 2022 GMC Canyon will represent the final model of the truck before the next-generation Canyon is introduced for the 2023MY. The 2023 GMC Canyon will ride on an updated version of GM’s current GMT-31XX midsize body-on-frame architecture called 31XX-2 and will offer only the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine. The truck will also migrate to the new Global B electrical architecture, enabling the latest tech and active safety features.
