2022 Corvette IMSA GTLM Championship C8.R Edition Buyers Prefer Hypersonic Gray

One of the biggest changes applied to the updated 2022 Corvette Stingray was the addition of a new IMSA GTLM Championship C8.R Edition package, which includes various exterior styling add-ons inspired by the Corvette C8.R race car.

The IMSA GTLM Championship C8.R Edition is available to order in two exterior colors: Accelerate Yellow Metallic and Hypersonic Gray Metallic. This is a reference to the No. 3 and No. 4 Corvette C8.R race cars that compete in the IMSA WeatherTech Championship, the former of which is painted yellow and the latter of which is painted Hypersonic Gray.

So far, the Hypersonic Gray color has proven to be more popular amongst 2022 Corvette IMSA GTLM Championship C8.R Edition buyers. Of the 412 orders currently placed for the Championship Edition, Hypersonic Gray accounts for 266 units or 65 percent, while Accelerate Yellow accounts for 146 units or 35 percent.

It’s worth noting the yellow hue featured on the Corvette C8.R is not the same as Accelerate Yellow. The race car has a darker yellow shade that is the same or similar to the yellow used on the Corvette C7.R. Accelerate Yellow, by comparison, is much lighter.

In addition to the Corvette C8.R-inspired graphics package, the IMSA GTLM Championship C8.R Edition also adds the following equipment:

  • High-wing spoiler finished in Carbon Flash
  • Yellow brake calipers
  • Black Trident design wheels, with the “Jake” logo on the center caps, and black lug nuts
  • Exterior mirrors in Carbon Flash
  • Black side rockers
  • Splash guards

The IMSA GTLM Championship Edition package starts at $6,595 and is only available to order on the range-topping 3LT trim level. This limited-run package celebrates Corvette Racing’s championship-winning 2020 IMSA season in which it took six victories and seven pole positions. In addition the team and manufacturer championships, Corvette Racing drivers Jordan Taylor and Antonio Garcia also won the driver’s championship.

  1. The song isn’t “Little Gray Corvette,” or “Little Yellow Corvette;” It’s “LITTLE RED CORVETTE!!!” Get it? RED!!!!

  2. I like the gray. I think the yellow will keep its value longer since it’s a color that has won more races since the C8 R has been out and has won many races throughout the years. Ah never mind I’ll take one of each!

    1. Both will probably do well with retaining value because of limited production.

  3. The colors are OK but the best-looking version of this car is the Black Widow Wide Body kit by Ivan Tampi. The latest one.
