Although the 2022 Chevy Camaro went into production on August 17th at the GM Lansing Grand River plant, certain features will have limited availability at the start of production, while others will not be available whatsoever.
Limited availability:
- ZL1 and ZL1 with A1Z (ZL1 1LE Extreme Track Performance Package)
- Redline Edition (WBL)
- Rapid Blue color (GMO)
Not available at start of production:
- Shock & Steele Edition (B2E)
- LT1 engine with six-speed manual transmission (MN6) but without dual model exhaust (NPP)
These items will become fully available later on in the 2022 model year.
Production at the GM Lansing Grand River facility has been an on-again, off-again affair, with the ongoing global microchip shortage impacting production of the Chevy Camaro, as well as the Cadillac CT4 and Cadillac CT5 luxury sedans also built at the facility.

Due to missed production, Chevy Camaro inventory has fallen, which has naturally led to a drop in Chevy Camaro sales. As GM Authority reported last month, Camaro sales dwindled to 9 percent segment share during the second quarter of the 2021 calendar year.
Chevy Camaro sales for the first six months of 2021 amounted to 9,881 units, a 29 percent decrease compared to the 2020 calendar year when 13,860 units were delivered. That performance gives the Chevy muscle car a 14 percent segment share during Q2 2021, down from the 20 percent recorded in the year-ago quarter.
Production of the 2022 Chevy Camaro was originally set to begin Monday, June 14th, but that date was later pushed back due to the semiconductor shortage.
The 2022 Chevy Camaro represents the seventh model year of the sixth-generation Camaro.
The vehicle arrives with just a few changes and updates compared to the previous 2021 model year, including the addition of two new exterior colors, as well as the deletion of two exterior color options, namely Crush, an orange hue tagged with paint code G16, and Shock, a green-yellow hue tagged with paint code GKO. The new paint options will include Rapid Blue, as previewed at the NASCAR Beef It’s What’s For Dinner 300 race at Daytona last February. The other new color is Vivid Orange Metallic.
Further updates include the deletion of the LT 1LE Track Performance Package, as well as deletion of the 20-inch Caliente wheel set.

GM has no interest in the Camaro…….Shameful for all of us Camaro owners!!!!!
Yea, shameful for car without necessary parts unavailable to build 😕 🙄…
Why would they it’s a piece of trash car that doesn’t sell. Don’t get mad at my response either look at the sales figures those speak for themselves
Greg most are Haters and Trolls that haven’t even taken a test drive to form an educated opinion on the Camaro.
TK the fact is the sales my friend the camaro has been in 3rd place for years now people can say they like it all they want but liking it and buying it are 2 very different things. I had a 2017 krypton green camaro that I sold due to mechanical issues that would not go away. Fact is this car does not sell and the sales figures prove that.
anytime the camaro sells the best america is number 1, whenever it is last is when america is full of itself and losing. camaro is the light of the world driving america to where she needs to be across the land of liberty and the world.
great car, uglier than last gen, whoever “green lighted” this design schould be given a one-way ticket out the door. what other reason can you can you lay blame for dismal sales when this car runs circles around it’s rivals.. personally I like the looks but I am in the minority. ..
It’s being phased out. Lucky they even make it anymore.
Should have bought a 2021 when the discounts were available. Feb 2021.
Its sad to see the way Chevrolet has walked away from the Camaro. How hard would it be to drop the new Corvette motor in the car? 495 H.P. would make it much more appealing.
I completely agree.
The LT1 engine should have been bumped up to the Corvette’s LT2 in the SS models. The no frills LT1 should be the 5.3 liter V8. Call it the LT+. Drop the V6 engine. Keeping the car a basic V8 can keep it under 35K, and 33K would be better. Remove expensive options like NPP exhaust, sunroofs and magnetic ride control. Maintain the other LT models with the 2.0 turbo engine. Only put the 1LE package on the 2.0 Turbo models and the LT2 models.
The Camaro features are too numerous across the model lineup. As it stands there are three LT packages and then the LT1.
‘Dead Man Walking’. The 10 speed automatic available on the Camaro V6 and V8 models will not be available on the 2.0T four cylinder. All horsepower ratings stay the same: 4 cylinder 2.0T 275, 3.6 6 cylinder 335 and 6.2 V8 455 horsepower. Ford gave the Mustang GT 25 extra horsepower in 2018 from 435 to 460. Why can’t GM do as you suggest?. Increase the Camaro V8 from 455hp to 495 hp.
So Chevy made a great move by removing the silly fripperies and giving us a bargain V-8 LT1 Camaro muscle car for $35K.
But they won’t make them. I want a LT1 with a stick, and no silly overpriced options (like a $900 exhaust pipe).
Then they wonder why they’re not selling…
Go to Bonmin in Miami
Right, I checked Bommin Chevy in FL., and they’re expecting 4 manual LT1’s that have no options whatsoever.
Lol its where I got my SS 1LE last year. Bonmin is great, no BS!
Uhhh, nowhere did it say you couldn’t get an M6 LT1, it just says it’s not available at the start of production (may have to wait a few months), meaning they’re prioritizing the cars with the dual mode exhausts first. Glad I changed my mind and decided to go with the dual exhaust for my M6 LT1 order. It’s not just some “overpriced exhaust pipe” btw, it’s an exhaust system that looks and sounds better than the standard one, allows you to change the sound, and also includes the diffuser. After hearing what the car sounds like with and without it, I opted to get it. Now I don’t have to worry about changing it out for something that sounds better later, and all the inconvenience that comes with that. Compared to other exhaust systems on the market, it’s reasonably priced IMO.
Good for you! Nice to know you have money to burn.
And the article says that LT1 Camaros with a stick and without the $900 exhaust pipe are not being made for now. True or false?
Even before this development, finding a nice LT1 that wasn’t loaded up with crap was almost impossible.
Hey Chevy! What’s the point of the LT1 if you’re just going to make ’em with $900 exhaust pipes and $2000 holes in the roof?
You’re already spending 35k, and complaining about another 1k, which equates to $18 more per month (if youre financing it)? Dude c’mon. If you really want one with a stick, and no options, they can be found, just do an inventory search (I just found like 5 within 2000 miles of TX). Where are you? Or like I said, if you feel you need to order it, just wait!
Hey if you want to spend $1000 on a fancy exhaust system, knock yourself out (I checked – it’s $995). I have better things to do with $1000…
But the whole point of the LT1 Camaro was to decontent it, and make it affordable. If GM’s only going to make ’em loaded up with silly overpriced options, it defeats the purpose.
I can understand them doing it right now, during a vehicle shortage (chips & Covid), but they need to return to the concept of the LT1 ASAP.
C’mon, dude.
They make models with the most often ordered options. Sorry if you don’t like that. But it’s called marketing.
I think you’re going to find that since the Camaro is in short supply most are going to be highly optioned.
You can’t fault Chevy. Yes the LT1 was made to compete with the base Challenger RT and Mustang GT in price. But you can’t fault a buyer who wants a few options like an Automatic, Performance Exhaust, Sunroof and Wheels. The LT1 is still cheaper than a 1SS.
I’m not faulting the buyers. Pay 5 Grand extra to have it painted in 18Kt Gold if that’s what floats your boat.
This is what I AM saying: the market concept of the LT1 Camaro was to take out content, and make V-8 Camaro performance more affordable and attainable. BRILLIANT ! I WANT ONE.
But if GM’s going to load them up with silly overpriced options, it defeats the purpose, doesn’t it?
All I want is a/c and a radio.
GIVE ME A STRIPPER !
Once again sir, you can have your bare bones LT1. If you want a 2022, wait a while until you can order it according to your preference, or find one of the optionless 2021’s currently on their way to dealers (they exist)!
Gee thanks, I’d never have thought of that.
Talk about missing the point…
I bought a LT1 loaded back in June. If you want a stripper LT1 Bomnin Dealship in Miami has at least 3 according to CarGurus with a $499 delivery charge. If you want one that bad I suggest you do that because your local dealers are probably are not going to have one like you like no options.
NO! $499 is the electronic filing fee! And $999 is for dealer prep. ( Delivery/Destination charge is $995)
Florida screws you that way. Very high prep fees when they get paid to prep the vehicle already. Not that way in many other states. Find the car you want anywhere. If it’s not in Florida, you will save a big portion of the $995 “prep fee”. Illinois doesn’t have that high a prep fee and can only charge you what the state bills for electronic filing.
Gee, looks like you will save more than that $900 performance exhaust cost. So quit your whining.
Feel sorry for everyone that wanted the Rapid Blue color. It seemed very popular.
I would rather have the 6speed with the performance exhaust anyway.
The fancy exhaust doesn’t give you an iota more performance.
I don’t think anyone is arguing that it does.
Why does TK call it “the performance exhaust” then?
It’s NOT a performance exhaust.
TK is mistaking the performance exhaust for the dual mode exhaust (code NPP), which are two different things.
It’s called the Dual Mode exhaust if you want to be correct.
But the performance exhaust sounds so good much better than stock. Looks better too.
Great! Go blow a Grand on a fancy exhaust pipe. I don’t care – but don’t call it a performance exhaust when it delivers no more performance.
Right?
One other thing.
With the standard exhaust, just 2 pipes exit the rear – so the LT1 will generally be mistaken for a SIX cylinder. Remove the “LT1” fender badges and you have a perfect “sleeper” or Q-Car.
Everyone will take it for a V6.
The Thousand Dollar four-pipe exhaust option throws away that, and declares to the World that it’s a V8.
NPP standard on an LT1? They might as well have made the 10-speed auto standard and the manual a $1500 option.
It doesn’t say anywhere that it’s standard. It merely says if you’re ordering an LT1 with a manual, you’ll only be able to do so by adding the NPP option, at least at the beginning of production. Those that don’t want NPP with the manual, will have to wait.
I see it that Chevrolet missed the boat on styling of the 6th generation Camaro all along starting in 2012, and the proof is in those sales numbers. Challenger and Mustang have more of a retro look to the 60’s muscle cars and that is what is most appealing to me as performance car buyer, should look more like a 69. They will all three burn rubber any way you want so styling is the deciding factor. Coming from a past loyal Camaro owner.
I don’t think style has much to do with it, charger and challenger are old as well. My thought is most Americans are fat and the 6th gen is a tight fit, cumbersome to get in and out, the vette might be better with the only negative is 2 less seats and a higher price. I own a 6th gen, love it, but it’s not as livable as the competition. I love the styling of the 6th gen and liked the 5th gen looks but always though it looked fat. Challenger is big looking, mustang looks long looking. When I bought my 6th gen visibility was a concern and on my test drive at the dealer the salesman ask how was the Visibility, I said “ oh I don’t know this thing is awesome “
They have to make more challengers and mustangs because they breakdown so often
Lol no they make more because they aren’t plastic garbage like this camaro. People wonder why this plastic junk doesn’t sell 🤣
Yes, the Mustang is known to built from titanium…
They’re all have economy car interiors, OTOH too many feminist males bark too loud about being so ” fancy ” about everything..
Show me a new car without lots of plastic interior pieces at any price, the 6th gen interior looks nice, is well laid out and works just fine, maybe you do things on your dash or door panels, like dance, have sex, or work out, who knows, but when used for driving they look and hold up just fine
The 6th gen is trash is the reason it’s in 3rd place and not selling thank god it will be gone soon
the fancy companies say they use sustainable plastic materials maybe chevy should use the same gay language
GM gave up on the Camaro in 2016 with the 6th Gen. The 5th Gen sold so well that they decided to improve it. It is an evolution, rather than a revolution. The 6th Gen is more of a 5.5 Gen. It kept the retro styling, but changed the chassis, driveline, etc.. As a diehard GM guy with a cammed 2011 Camaro SS Conv. and a bolt-on C7 GS, it is a shame that the GM engineers went to sleep on the 2016+ Camaro. When you place the ’10-’15 next to a ’16-’21, they look eerily similar, but the 6th Gen cost $8-10k more (model vs. model). IMHO, the Camaro will be axed very soon in favor of another boring, soccer Mom CUV.
We GM performance guys have been put over a barrel. 🙁
Confused when I hear stuff like this. The 6th gen is clearly superior to the 5th gen in performance. Comments like your sound more like fashion statement or status symbol when you don’t like that they look too similar. If you were to trade in your 5th gen for a 6th it would be more rare as a 2022 model then a 2011. Im sure GM sold close to 100k back then. When comes to looks the vette looked very similar 5th and 6th gen and only by 7th gen did it look much different which ruffled feathers with the taillights
It is not a “fashion statement” by any means. It is more about charging $8-10k more for a car that looks almost identical to the outgoing model. Sure, the 6th Gen got a new, lighter chassis, the LT1 V8 and other performance bits, but for people that are not huge car guys, all they see is a very similar car, that costs a lot more. If I had a dollar for every time I go to a meet with my Camaro club (5th and 6th Gen’s) and the Average Joe walks up and says, “Are they all the same year?”, I would have a very large stack of $1’s. GM dropped the ball by not drastically changing the design of the car from ’15 to ’16. The 6th Gen Camaro should have been completely remodeled instead of simply being a better version of the 5th. Dozens of studies have been done and it shows that consumers like to see a completely new model every 4-5 years.
Dodge/SRT has found a way to buck this trend by releasing dozens and dozens of variations for their ~15 year old platform, in order to keep their faithful buyers intrigued. What has GM done with the Camaro? They release a “Special Edition” sticker package every year that costs thousands more. A few thousand for stickers? Wow…
Well I would of never bought a camaro if they didn’t do what they did with the 6th gen. But by your logic they could of stayed with the old GM bean counter ways kept the same chassis but made the looks completely new and people would of Gobbled it up. I feel like I turn heads in my 20117 ss1le. People see plenty of challengers and mustangs. Hell you really can’t tell a hellcat from any other one
Barra on the Camaro is about as attentive as Biden on Afghani survivors.
Camaro….dead vehicle walking!
….. except for being the best of the 3 muscle cars.
Lighter, narrower, quicker, better handling, and cheaper (in LT1 form).
And far better looking too
To bad nobody cares. I saw a new one yesterday and it’s still a very attractive car..just can’t see out of it and it could use more engine choices. I think it would really sell again if they redesigned it after the 70.5 Camaro split bumper. Was at a Dodge dealer last weekend with my son and in the 2 hours we were there they sold 3 wide body Challenger’s. The same could happen with the Camaro
People who keep complaining about outward visibility apparently have not driven a New Camaro recently….. There are NO visibility problems, also now with a rear view mirror camera availability, you have very good 360’ visibility ….. The only issue might be in & out egress, can be a little difficult especially if your doing it on a incline….
Lets see I placed my Order April 8. For a Rapid Blue Convertible with the fancy pipes with a 6 cyl. white int. Who cares about the price, I just what what I want. Yes I’m closing in on 80 and can’t shift as fast. Also over 110 mph. on RT 90 is just fine for me. If I need more I’d get a Vette.
Like i said before GM….Sucks when it comes to camaro now it was a good run from 67 to Present wanted to check see a Sec Gen Camaro 70 to 73 would put chevy back on the map butt truck and Electric Cars taking up space for next generation me own 79 Z28 and 1996 Z28SS car number 12

It’s the dealers that order the options. They’ll do anything to bump the price up. Right now they may have too many NPP exhaust in inventory and not enough standard exhaust so if a dealer orders and want it sooner than later, what every it takes to get one in inventory.
We had better get one while we can !
I think if people really wanted a complete redesign every 4-5 years, then retro looking cars like Mustangs, Challengers, the new Nissan Z , Mercedes, Porsche, BMW, Jeep, would all be dying off from a lack of sales…. Which doesn’t appear to be the case at all
6th Gen is far from trash, Its a very good car, the reason its not selling well is simple…. Production has slowed and even stopped due to a lack of available chips…. Dealers can not get any Camaros to sell…. Go to any dealer and see how many they have in stock for sale……even used ones have become scarce…. If people thought they were trash, dealers would have lots of them available, and people on this forum wouldn’t be complaining about having to order or wait to get one…. Also surprised why people who hate GM vehicles are even on a GM forum web sight….. go buy what you like
Ok everybody got good points but here is the facts GM no longer cares to keep the Camaro they care about profit they are making 10 grand profit on the large suv Tahoe Yukon Escalade even more on the P/U they feel if they gave us what Dodge and Ford offer aka Hellcat ,GT not enough profit in there pockets cause they would want at least 70 to 80 grand to see some profit what average Joe has that so that is why the Camaro that was supposed debut with the Corvette motor updated suspension known as the 7th generation was canned they are saying Dodge and Ford can have the pony at game we will force Camaro buyers over to you so we can kill this slow selling thing in our portfolio.By not offering a LT1 at the start of production and some options causing you to wait for availability? ,Everybody that bought the Camaro back in 2010 has left GM or retired so the new people at GM do not care about this historical icon or putting resources into making it equal if not better than Mopar or Ford in GMs world don’t make dollars don’t make cents let’s make P/U s Crossovers ,SUVs,and big trucks
Except the LT1 is available at the start of production, just not in a Manual (manual with NPP available) that doesn’t include the Dual Mode Exhaust (NPP). Most people are going to get the 10speed anyway…
