The 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Elevation was just caught testing on public roads in prototype form, giving us an early sneak peek at the upcoming pickup.
As we can see here, this 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Elevation is equipped with the refreshed 2022 Sierra front fascia design, as well as a tweaked rear end. In the corners, we spot familiar black gloss-painted wheels, specifically the 20-inch by 9-inch black gloss-painted aluminum rollers tagged with RPO code RD3.
For those readers who may be unaware, the 2022 model year is set to introduce a full model refresh for the Light Duty GMC Sierra 1500. However, as a result of delays stemming from the ongoing global microchip shortage and numerous production delays, the model refresh has been pushed back to late in the 2022 model year.
In order to bridge the refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 with the previous 2021 model year, General Motors is introducing the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Limited, a continuation model based on the 2021-model-year vehicle that carries over much of the same content.
When the fully refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 arrives, the Sierra Elevation trim level will officially make its return. As well it should, given the fact that the Elevation Edition is starting to take higher priority in the GMC lineup, even becoming a full-fledged trim level for the 2021-and-newer GMC Canyon.
Previously, the Elevation was only offered as a package for the GMC Canyon. Now, however, with the 2021-and-newer GMC Canyon, the Elevation Standard arrives as a replacement for the Canyon trim level, while the SLE trim is replaced by the Elevation.
Back to the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. When the fully refreshed 2022 model year drops in, it will boast new exterior styling front and back, plus new wheel designs for certain trim levels and models, and new exterior colors. The cabin will feature a complete overhaul with a new dash, center stack, center console, and infotainment screen, while a raft of new tech will be onboard courtesy of the Global B electronic architecture, including the GM Super Cruise semi-autonomous driver assist system.

Only if GM could increase the horsepower on all they available truck base engines to accompany these cosmetic technological updates, the GM twins would surely put Ford F- series on noticed and returned Ram to its rightful place once and for all.
Note 6.2 455 bhp & 475 lb-ft.
5.3 390 bhp & 405 lb-ft.
3.0 twin turbo diesel, 350 bhp & 530 lb-ft.
2.7 315 bhp & 380 lb-ft.
10-speed across the board.
Close on 6.2, but not on the others.
5.3 needs 375hp and 400 ft lb, with 3.42 gears outside of max tow in my opinion. I have a 5.3 now and I won’t even look at another without that.
My gripe with the 6.2 is the small fuel tank and premium fuel. I’d be happy if they held the line on 420/460 but made it 87 recommended.
The 5.3 needs a bump and there’s a lot left in it. Some research online shows that with a cam swap the 5.3 can easily break 400 hp, and in some wild cases, 500 hp. The key is how to do so without breaking the emissions and fuel economy. If they could incorporate the 2.7’s variable camshaft tech, that would make it too easy to do both, as long duration large overlap cams do just as good with emissions at WOT. It’s idle and cruising that they suck gas and spit it out the tailpipe. A large overlap cam increases tq down to as low as 1500rpm and a large duration would help it not fade, like the coyote past 4500rpm. Heck, do the same with the 6.2 and drop it in the new Corvette as well. Corvette engines run higher lift, but they maintain the same duration and lack of overlap to keep a silky idle. Speed isn’t woth your car sounding like a Harley.
6.2 not even the corvette has that much torque it won’t happen.
5.3: 405ft-lbs is over 76ft-lbs/Liter of displacement very high output for a pushrod especially if you want it to run on regular fuel won’t happen as well.
3.0: The best quad turbo diesel Bmw B57 inline was acheiving 561ft-lbs but made for high performance application. That is way too much stress on an engine that will power a pick up truck.
2.7: That one seem reasonable the CT4-V already reach this level of torque i guess they might find a way to reach 380ft-lbs with a twin scroll turbo keeping it on regular fuel the top end hp number might suffer a bit.
400+ft lbs would be pretty easy to do, but would require some big changes. If your familiar with the scavenging and packing effects of long intake runners, where high velocity air in the intake pushes more air in the cylinder, like a turbo. smaller ports have a higher velocity, so Chevy could always move to a 24 valve engine with dual intakes, and use 1 intake valve below 3000 rpm to maximize torque down low and use DSF to cycle the other one on past that for max air flow up to 6000 rpm. It’s easily doable, question is will they.
Cue the Shock……
Sure would be nice for GM to fill some of their holes in the silverable/sierra lineup.
F-150 Rapter/RAM TRX – Where is the ZR2?
F-150 Powerboost – Where is the hybrid?
F-150 Electric – Where is the electric?
Everyone acts like GM is light-years behind Ford.. 🙄🙄
The zr2 will be released when the new body style is
The electric Silverado has already been announced and will be released when the new body style is
I would guess that they’ve developed some kind of hybrid powertrain option also
Silverado EV is a completely different vehicle, based off the Hummer EV platform, but tamed down and more conservative. 2 versions will come, a fleet model with single layer battery pack, and lower ride height, and a higher end model with the double stack battery more dressed up and longer range.
I guess we’ll have to see how it turns out but I would be more interested in a electrically propelled version of an existing truck than a glorified skateboard with a lift kit and a bed. This is kind of like trying to sell full size truck drivers a unit body vehicle IMO.
Just picked up my new Denali with the baby diesel. I’m in love. First tank took me 1005 kms and when I filled it up it only took 86 litres. Incredible. Plus, diesel is cheaper right now where I live by 15 cents / litre. Overall, saves me about $50/ tank over my F150 limited with the 136 litre tank and goes the same distance. Like I said, in love.
Post updates on maintenance costs including DEF.
Why the hell are the mirrors down there? Looking forward to a new cheap, crappy interior!
The man of the hour 👏👏
Me to the plastic dash in my 2019 is cracking already I’m going to upgrade to the 2022. I love that plastic interior smell
I’m guessing it’s going to have an even bolder grille.
can they just release this? this is freaking annoying. Ill probably just buy a ford
Yeah because Ford hasn’t been annoying with their last few releases dragging on for several years. 🙄
Hehe he!
Sheshe she!
I think that not underlined g underlined m should (insert opinion here) because (insert “expert” explanation here). Then (insert unaccountable result here).
(Submit feeling good about myself because I think people care)
They can release interior pics of The Who gives a F… Wuling, but not the trucks!
3.73 is a great all around gearing
Any update on when we might get more info about the order books for the refreshed 2022 Sierra 1500 Denali? I’ve seen some content implying we could see the pictures/details in October. Others have said we won’t even be able to see pics until 2022 calendar Q1.
