The mainstream subcompact crossover segment expanded nearly 55 percent to 308,490 units during Q2 2021. As such, the Encore’s 10 percent decrease in sales volume under-performed the segment average.

The GM Authority Take

We attribute the decline in Buick Encore sales volume during Q2 2021 to a planned change in corporate strategy, as GM boosted production of the new Buick Encore GX at the expense of the older Encore. While the Encore lost 1,007 units in Q2 2021 compared to Q2 2020, the Encore GX gained 16,988 units.

The Buick Encore GX complements the “regular” Encore in the Buick crossover lineup.

We expect the Encore and Encore GX to continue following their current trajectories, given that no actions disrupt in production and associated supply.

  1. Of course the encore sales are down since there was no inventory on dealer lots. And since the GX is about $5,000 more that’s what they want to push. But of course GM is short-sighted and they’re giving up market share to everybody else. I have an encore and it’s more than enough for two seniors. Even though the trunk space is slim I still get four pieces of luggage in there and all of my supermarket bags
