The new Cadillac Blackwing four-doors are not your typical Cadillac models. Indeed, these super sedans are offered as the most track-capable production vehicles to ever wear a Cadillac crest, with fire-breathing powerplants and corner-carving suspension. No surprise then that the average Cadillac Blackwing customer is 10 years younger than non-Blackwing customers.
The interesting insight comes courtesy of Cadillac Chief Engineer Tony Roma, who recently paid a visit to Jay Leno’s Garage with the new 2022 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing to give the former Tonight Show host a chance to drive it for himself. During his visit, Roma told Leno that the folks buying the new Cadillac Blackwings skewed towards the younger side of the spectrum.
“When you really get into [V-Series] and then what we’ve seen already with V Blackwing is the average age is yet again lower,” Roma said during his drive-along in the new CT5-V Blackwing.
“When you get the V Blackwing, it’s more than 10 years younger than the average Cadillac buyer that’s coming in and buying one of these [Cadillac Blackwing sedans],” Roma adds.
In a study published in 2018, used vehicle retailer CarMax identified Cadillac as the car brand with the oldest average customer age. According to data collected from CarMax purchases made between January 1st of 2017 and December 31st of 2017, the average Cadillac buyer was aged 47.1 years. Second in the list was Buick at 45.6 years, followed by Lexus in third at 44.8 years.
Of course, it should come as no surprise that the new Cadillac Blackwing sedans are attracting a younger crowd considering the impressive performance on offer. Under the hood, the 2022 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing is motivated by the supercharged 6.2L V8 LT4, rated at 668 horsepower and 659 pound-feet of torque, while the 2022 Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing is motivated by the twin-turbocharged 3.6L V6 LF4, rated at 472 horsepower and 445 pound-feet of torque.
As Leno confirms, these vehicles are far from your grandpa’s Cadillac.

Lexus is running older than what Toyota wants and is nearly as gray as a domestic even being bested by a Lincoln that isn’t exactly awe inspiring.
Cadillac needs to do new things like Blackwing if the brand is to survive. I’d consider offering an exclusive line consisting of hand-made wood covered interiors with hand done French stitching.
Well you’ll get that in the upcoming Cadillac Celestiq and the Escalade EV. Not sure about other future products in Cadillac’s lineup.
Gonna need a lot more than that for the Celestiq to justify 200K. As L-gm has mismanged Cadillac for a while now. Genesis is on the rise and people would question them too if they had a 200k electric sedan. Now Bentley could get away with that as they never stopped being Bentley. With that said L-gm has finally got the memo that Cadillac needs to be treated like a Luxury brand. The recent efforts have proven this. I am optimistic for the brand but they need to be consistent with their increments in returning the brand back to its former glory.
GM is lost and Cadillac is swirling in the toilet…. If folks don’t buy the junk they’re pushing now WHY would they spend $200K for the Craptique or for the Snotique CUV in 2 years? Audi is on Gen II ETron SUV but GM who is pushing ALL EV still has no entry… GM is lost and are losing… the Vette is the only thing they have worth a look… everything else one can find a better more compelling, better built, BETTER vehicle elsewhere…
Cadillac needs strong ICE vehicles if they are to survive first! They need to keep making money on their FWD CUVs and ICE escalade. The new genesis CUVs are more compelling to me with their RWD unibody architecture. Genesis is being bold like Cadillac should with its more unique design language of years past.
Well you’re going to have to look elsewhere. Stop wishing for another ICE Cadillac. You all are beating a dead horse. Cadillac has shifted to being a BEV/Tesla competitor and most other Luxury brands are shifting in that direction too.
Shut your mouth
You shut.
Complete a sentence next time thanks.
Either GM is gauging rather an ICE Cadillac sedan will still be on sale by ’26 or the CT4/5 ICE replacements will go to Chevy/Buick while Cadillac goes electric, who knows….
I say that because Ford is working on an ICE sedan and Charger will still be ICE next generation.
these vehicles are far from your grandpa’s Cadillac. :)
