The 2022 Corvette arrives as the third model year of the mid-engine C8 Chevy Corvette Stingray, introducing a few changes and updates over the preceding 2021 model year. Among these is the deletion of three exterior paint colors.
The three exterior paint colors set for deletion with the 2022 Corvette include Zeus Bronze Metallic, Shadow Gray Metallic, and Sebring Orange Tintcoat.
As GM Authority covered previously, these three exterior paint options will be replaced with three new exterior paint options, namely Hypersonic Gray Metallic (paint code GA7), Amplify Orange Tintcoat (paint code G48), and Caffeine Metallic (paint code GC5). The three new paint colors for the 2022 Corvette were introduced during the 2021 Bash event at the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
“Corvette continues to have strong demand,” said Car, Performance and Motorsports Communications for Chevrolet, Trevor Thompkins, during the 2021 National Corvette Museum Bash event. “Most of the vehicles we’ve built have been sold orders personalized by their owners, so fresh colors help Corvette buyers showcase their individuality on road.”
In addition to the replacement of three exterior paint colors, the 2022 Corvette also introduces the IMSA GTLM Championship C8.R Edition, a special, limited-run model based on the top 3LT trim level and equipped with a range of extra equipment, including a unique graphics package intended to mimic the livery of the No. 3 Corvette C8.R and No. 4 Corvette C8.R race cars. The No. 3 edition includes Accelerate Yellow paint with gray graphics, while the No. 4 edition includes Hypersonic Gray paint with yellow graphics.
Further equipment includes:
- Yellow brake calipers
- Black-painted Trident alloy wheels with the Jake logo center caps
- Carbon Flash-painted exterior sideview mirrors
- Black-painted side rockers
- Black splash guards
- Strike Yellow and Sky Cool Gray interior upholstery
- GT2 seats
Just 1,000 examples of the 2022 Corvette IMSA GTLM Championship C8.R Edition will be built.

GTLM championship? The real question is why they went through the time and effort to spec the C8R to a class that has been on the chopping block for years now. So they run around with no opponents or get beat by a part timer. Full line-ups of GT racing all over the world and not a C8 to be found. No idea what the GM strategy is but the C8R hasn’t won a thing it had to earn yet, and Lemans won’t be any different.
Big mistake getting rid of Shadow Gray. In person the color was gorgeous. The metal flake was very visible, and it had a blue tint to it. Shadow gray made the Vette look classy.
Hmmm, the vehicle shown on the far right appears to be white, but that color isn’t mentioned in the writeup for the C8.R edition.
I’m guessing, but it would make sense for Chevy to build all 1,000 units pretty close to one another, so could someone jump the line by ordering this edition instead of being in the back of the pack with a regular C8?
I think that’s the Pace Car color and stripe theme, used at several races I’ve watched.
Need a black metallic exterior option!
Love my C8 !!
The Hypersonic Gray looks like it has wide wheel flares in the rear.
When will they add Metallic BLACK?
I have a black one on order and like it that way. Looks good, don’t feel like I have a target on my back and the lack of metallic will make any future touch-ups much easier.
Don’t get rid of Shadow Gray!
Let’s hear it for Zeus Bronze. !!
