2022 Chevy Silverado Gets New Off-Road High Clearance Assist Steps

The 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 will offer new Off-Road High Clearance Assist Steps as an LPO-level, dealer-installed optional extra.

The Off-Road High Clearance Assist Steps (RPO code VXW) will be available on both the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 and 2022 Chevy Silverado HD. On The Chevy Silverado 1500, the side assist steps will be available to order with the Work Truck, Custom Trail Boss, RST and LT Trail Boss trim levels. The Chevy Silverado HD, meanwhile, will offer them on every trim level except for the High Country. They will also be available on Crew Cab trucks only, with a version meant for Double Cab models set to arrive at some point in the near future.

Customers can expect to pay $1,095 for the Off-Road High Clearance Assist Steps. They became available to order from GM dealers on August 12th, 2021. It’s worth noting the RPO VXW steps are not all-new to the GM accessories catalog, as they are already available to order with the 2021 GMC Sierra 1500, but they were only added to the Chevy Silverado’s order books for the 2022 model year. The steps are black and feature inlaid ‘Chevrolet’ branding on the section closest to the front quarter panel.

The 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 will first launch as a pre-update Silverado 1500 Limited model, which carries over almost every aspect of the 2021MY truck and will bridge the gap to the refreshed model. The updated Silverado 1500 has been delayed and will arrive late in the 2022 model year.

Production of the Chevy Silverado 1500 Limited will initially kick off at the GM Silao plant in Mexico on September 20th, while production at the GM Fort Wayne plant in Indiana will begin shortly after on September 27th. Order books for the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 Limited are now open.

  2. the HD trucks sit so high to begin with that a high mounted step makes no sence. for every day driving , getting in and out of the truck is like work ( yes Im a little older being 53) , and 95% of the people never go off road , and people that spend 80K for these trucks for the most part dont abuse them or tare them up.

  3. So, you drag the steps in the ground instead of the body? Clever.
