2022 Chevy Malibu Loses Various Dealer-Installed Options

The 2022 Chevy Malibu is dropping a bunch of dealer-installed, LPO-level equipment from its list of available options, GM Authority can confirm.
Some of the more popular dealer-installed equipment that has been removed from the 2022 Chevy Malibu options list include the cargo area organizer, 19-inch black-painted wheels, sport pedal kit, inside rear window sunshade and first aid kit. It’s not clear why GM has decided to remove these dealer-installed options from the Chevy Malibu order book, though it could be related to GM’s rumored plan to phase out the four-door sedan sometime in the near future.

GM will apply only minor changes and updates to the 2022 Chevy Malibu. In addition to the removal of some dealer-installed options, the four-door will also drop the base L trim level from its lineup and will replace the Shadow Gray Metallic and Black Cherry Metallic exterior colors with two new ones: Mineral Gray Metallic and Dark Ash Metallic. The vehicle will also receive an electronic parking brake as standard, which replaces the standard lever-style parking brake that was previously offered as standard.
The Chevy Malibu is offered with two engine options, including the turbocharged 1.5L I4 LFV gasoline engine producing 163 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque, and the turbocharged 2.0L I4 LTG gasoline engine producing 250 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque.
The Chevy Malibu is produced at the GM Fairfax plant in Kansas City, supplying United States and Canada. The vehicle is also produced at the Shanghai GM Jinqiao North plant for the Chinese market and at the GM Bupyeong plant in South Korea for local consumption.

Just more evidence that the Malibu will be lost entirely pretty soon.
Sure would like to buy another hybrid malibu !!! Excellent car! Will it be made in the future? I have no interest until they make a hybrid. thank you
Were getting rid of one shade of grey and will instead offer two slightly different shades. Wow I can hardly contain my excitement! It just gets worse each year. I’m truly shocked they are still offering the 2.0 liter turbo on this lightweight sedan but refuse to offer it on much heavier mostly AWD equipped Equinoxes and Terrains.
Funny the plant is closed. When they start up it will be xt4 built only so don’t now when that will happen
So they are only bothering with the low sales, high profit vehicle? I guess that makes sense if you’re short on parts.
We rented a Malibu on a trip over the weekend and it was a very nice car, with plenty of room for 4 adults and luggage.
I was pleasantly surprised. A shame its marked for death.
Yeah it’s a great car, but everyone is buying an Equinox instead.
its not that great of a car. Own one for a year and you’ll see the serious quality problems with the Malibu.
The competition is ahead of GM yet again. especially the Japanese.
We have owned ours for 4 years….and not a problem. Just lucky right?
Good rental car that’s about it
Rental cars don’t normally come in the Premier model with the 2.0 lit. turbo and nine speed automatic transmission. If they did I believe you would have been pleasantly surprised.
They do. I’m checking the Enterprise used site and there’s a number of Premier trims with the 2.0 and some hybrids.
Maybe 20 years ago, rental cars would be the base trim. However, carmakers got smart that they’re extended test drives, as well as the fact that somebody, either the rental car company or the manufacturer, has to get rid of the car in 1-3 years, and people don’t like buying base models. As a result, rental fleets have equipage requirements. It’s the government and company fleets that get the ultra-econo trims.
That’s because that engine and transmission only come on the Premier. A $10k option.
No wonder they don’t sell more Malibus.
Malibu would make a nice looking sport coupe if they put some thought into it. I mean does anybody make two door versions of sedans anymore? Funny I thought I saw an old S10 Blazer SUV with 2 doors.
They did put thought into it.
They decided not to waste money building cars nobody buys.
If everyone was ready to hand them money for a Monte Carlo (or whatever you want to call it) they would take that money.
Why are the Malibu’s in the article all Chinese? Has the tooling been shipped over to China?
My local Enterprise office knows when I rent a car, they’d better have a Malibu waiting for me. They tried to pawn off a Nissan Altima on me last time. That didn’t go well. Till it was said and done I had the manager walking the lot with me with every set of Malibu keys he had in stock. I picked a beautiful black 2020 Premier. Best rental yet. I adored that damn car. Wish I was in the market for a new car. I’d snatch one up with no hesitation. Brought it back a week later with an additional 2900 miles on the odometer. I literally didn’t wanna give it back. Damn, I wish GM would have only marketed this amazing car.
