Last month, GM Authority caught what could be a new Chevy Tahoe SS prototype undergoing some real-world testing, building hype that a go-fast model variant could be in the works. Now, GM Authority is imagining what a 2021 Chevy Tahoe SS four-door model could look like with the following exclusive rendering.
As some fans may remember, we’ve already rendered a 2021 Chevy Tahoe SS two-door model, unveiling our creation in January of 2020. Now, we’re back at it with this exclusive four-door model variant.
For the moment, rumor has it a high-performance Tahoe, a.k.a. Tahoe SS, has been under consideration. Evidence comes by way of the potential prototype model spotted in June, which was so quick, we could only grab a single photo of it. What’s more, the prototype was abnormally loud, suggesting it’s got more than a few extra ponies corralled under the hood.
If GM does end up giving the Chevy Tahoe SS a green light, we expect it to come to the party with roughly 650 horsepower courtesy of the supercharged 6.2L V8 LT4 gasoline engine. For those that don’t know, the LT4 is the same high-powered motor found in the Chevy Camaro ZL1, third-generation Cadillac CTS-V, C7 Corvette Z06, and Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing.
Additionally, the Chevy Tahoe SS model would likely feature a lowered stance, with high-performance Magnetic Ride Control and Adaptive Air Ride suspension complemented by wider aluminum wheels and sticky performance rubber.
Four-wheel drive would be standard, while a selection of exterior styling enhancements would help onlookers identify the Tahoe SS as the go-faster performer of the SUV nameplate’s lineup. We would also expect some additional aero and cooling to round it out.
Of course, none of this matters if no one wants to buy it. So, we want to know – should General Motors build a new Chevy Tahoe SS model? Let us know by voting in the poll below, and make sure to subscribe to GM Authority for more Chevrolet Tahoe news, Chevrolet news, and around-the-clock General Motors news coverage.

Hot rodders and customizers have been doing it already but if GM decides to do this SS it will sell.
Absolutely GM should build the Tahoe SS. My wife has an 07 Trailblazer SS and LOVES IT. If GM builds the Tahoe SS I know I could talk her into another SS.
A RWD TrailBlazer SS with a SuperChargered 6.2 would be better
IDK…my love for racing and big hp wants to see this happen but the Tahoe is to big of a platform that will throw the price over 100k and make it near impossible to produce large enough numbers to maintain its existence. The SC v8 as a crate engine is near 20k… I’d rather see the R&D cash go to a smaller vehicle with huge hp numbers that would be priced half of the Tahoe. The Tahoe already comes with a high price to start… Maybe a Blackwing v8T, LT1, or an LS7 that won’t break the bank, but give it a respectable hp to lead this segment. Nice thing, either powerplant doesn’t require any engine bay modifications as the motor mounts match up with the oil pan clearing the suspension. An engine swamp and ECU…
Anyone price out a Hennessy or Lingenfelter?
JMO…
It looks like a Michigan state police Tahoe to me.
Yes it does put some lights and stickers and away you go
This is how CAFE shafted us: the gas guzzler rules apply to cars, not trucks. If we still made a proper Malibu or Impala, this package would work and be more fuel-efficient. That Tahoe is about as aerodynamic as the Renaissance Center.
Nah the present CEO that is a broad shafted y’all. Prior to her L-gm had SS models for most vehicles. What is the excuse? Dodge and Ford have performance SUVs. So do the mighty german 3. Don’t make excuses for lowercase gm.
No excuses. I have to hand it to Stellantis for keeping the Charger in the public eye. No reason the G8 and the Chevy SS couldn’t have done the same. The Tahoe is a truck. The General needs to make cars again.
How about something lighter weight. A regular cab, short bed pickup with this drivetrain? Can you even get a reg. cab short bed anymore? Maybe even an AWD for better traction?
Remember the 454 SS of the 90’s.
A standard cab short box Silverado SS would be awesome! They are building standard cab short box’s but unfortunately there not for the the U.S. market.
I’m happy folks are talking about the SS model. Not sure the Tahoe is the right model to carry the SS tag or not. Currently I’m driving a 2008 Trail Blazer SS AWD. I’ve often wondered what to do when I have to replace it. Keep the interest going.
You may want to rebuild it, and keep it rolling. i.e. (taxes, insurance, car payments etc.), and nothing new to replace it with. JMO.
Look at that wagon truck go Chevy
What if they make a fast base model with a low price lol like what they do with the trail boss. No need for all the extra gadgets anyways
I would buy it only if they installed 4 wheel brembro calipers and custom striping and tire and rims. I have a 19 RST 6.2 420hp engine high performance Tahoe premium but with front brembro calipers but the rear none its looks stupid also have the bolla exhaust GMC Chevy needs to compete with all these high performance SUV please put all these high performance and tech and body designs then it would compete with the hellcat truck and that ugly Ford raptor! and maybe l would purchase and every Chevy diehard too!…PLEASE GMC!!
Like 19 RST with 420 hp and Borla ! I’m due for a new Chevy Performance SUV. I have the 08 TBSS AWD and family transporter 21 Traverse Redline. SS is garaged so it won’t tan here in Florida (LOL)
What: You’ve got to be kidding .It should be a normal Tahoe! Not a Suburban!
How about just fulfilling what is on order now . I’ve had a GMC Sierra 3500 on order for (10) weeks. With no production date in sight . Must have missed the memo that Ric Waggoner would be replacing Queen Mary.
I want one if supercharged !
I would trade mine in for it way to go
I would trade mine in for it way to go
I would buy one. I have been waiting for this for a while. This would be the last car I purchase in life. Tell Chevy to shoot for the moon.
Let’s do a 2wd 5.3 turbo 700tran lower it ,put rubber floors and vynal seats fat tires SS badges ,Like NYState Troopers Tahoe’s of last 20yrs,Sell it Cheaper than a vette so I could see it in my driveway and drive it to Walmart when I don’t even need anything.
Rear-wheel driven freshened Impala would’ve been nice.
Yes please build it
That looks cool.
Yes Chevy should build it, and I hope they consider the new flat plane crankshaft Corvette engine, the Blackwing V8 and the current ZL1 engine as final contenders for the SS Tahoe.
I’m in and waiting….2022 would be GREAT
I want a new gen camaro 11yrs same old camaro terrible technology great please GM….Truly need engineering because soon camaro will be done like trans am
Omg. They NEED to make this now!! Absolutely would run out and buy one…
What’s 650 hp gonna do for that tank? Y is gm afraid to put real hp in their vehicles? Where does it get the zl1? Their on the bottom of the list compared to dodge and ford. It’s embarrassing. And to b honest that suburban is just too big to b going fast. Gm has got to lose the crack heads engineering these vehicles, y dont they worry about the camaro, vette and caddie. Get thoes cars up to par make them faster and watch sales go up. They make nice looking cars, but they’re too slow now days ( for ppl looking for speed).
I would by 2 have a 99 now still screaming down the road
I would definitely buy one. It would save me from going to Callaway
Great idea. About time Chevy. I would definitely buy one. Saves me from going to Callaway.
Yesssss about time ss Tahoe
Yes, GM should make an SS model. Many of my SUV’s have been Explorer’s and Tahoe’s and I would jump on the chance to get this.
The new Tahoe looks like a bloated Honda Pilot. Just awful
I would jump on it immediately! I have been waiting on General Motors to pull the trigger on this project for a while! I am all in on it.
I’m a GM employee and I love power and I would definitely give up my Yukon for the SS Tahoe
Nice
Really hope GM approve the SS Tahoe. With the right leveling, high performance suspension, and I think it’ll be just as cool as the 95-96 Impala. I know everyone is skeptical about the weight of an SUV with 650 hores but squatted low to prevent tip over and add stabilizer upgrade to traction control you’ll have one bad SUV to beat. Having steering control like the ZL1 Camaro and corvette. Watch how Ford and Dodge try to build something to beat it. Might look big but if Gm make it lighter than the the standard Tahoe, you can’t lose.
Not glassy at all too hig and bulky if it built it should be a 2 dr not something that got more doors than a house if it a SS it should be sporty and theirs nothing sporty about that tank
Should build a 2-door SS Tahoe
