General Motors is planning to release a full model refresh for the Light Duty Chevy Silverado 1500, which was originally set to drop for the 2022 model year. As GM Authority covered previously, the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 refresh was delayed as a result of the ongoing microchip shortage, throwing the pickup’s refresh date into doubt. Now, GM Authority has learned that the refreshed Chevy Silverado 1500 will indeed drop for the 2022 model year, albeit later than originally planned.
The refreshed 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 will introduce a wealth of changes and updates over the current 2021 model year, starting with new styling punctuated by a revised front and rear fascia. GM Authority was the first to reveal the refreshed 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500’s new front end, which deletes the controversial “sideburn” air curtains.
The 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 will also feature a completely overhauled cabin space, with a new dash, center stack, and center console, a larger infotainment screen, a digital gauge cluster, and the removal of the column gear shifter in favor of a new gear selector interface.
Under the skin, the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 will migrate to the new Global B electrical architecture, enabling the latest technology features, such as the introduction of GM’s Super Cruise semi-autonomous drive system.
What’s more, the refreshed 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 will also introduce the new Silverado ZR2 off-roader, as GM Authority has covered previously.
Prior to the release of the fully refreshed 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500, General Motors will introduce the 2022 Silverado Limited. Based on the current full-size 2021 Chevy Silverado 1500, the 2022 Silverado Limited will serve as a stop-gap between the 2021 model year and the delayed 2022 model year refresh, offering the same content as the pre-update 2021 model year Silverado, including the same trim levels, options, exterior colors, and interior colors.
Production of the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 Limited is set to begin at the GM Silao plant in Mexico on September 20th, 2021, and the GM Fort Wayne Assembly plant in Indiana on September 27th, 2021. Meanwhile, orders for the 2022 Chevy Silverado will open July 15th.

That s some good news news if indeed there will be options to buy either the limited or the refreshed model starting July 15th
Show the darn the trucks allready. I hate GMs games.
They probably fear that customers will stop purchasing the current model if they fully expose the upcoming refresh version and people would like what they see and hold off from purchasing a new vehicle until it arrives at dealers, especially when they got so much inventory that they need to do away with from the manufacturing plants due to chip shortage issues, gm more than likely doesn’t want to sell a refreshed Silverado to it’s customers with the same damn problem .
So much inventory? I struggle to find 1500s in my area (Charlotte). Many of the dealers just sell used trucks currently.
that didn’t stop Ram, they’ve been selling the old model for a few years. There’s always someone out there who doesn’t like change (not me tho!)
110% agree. This is getting ridiculous. Gm playing games with loyal consumers.
I fully understand the chip shortage. I know there was a global pandemic . There is no reason not to show us the truck already unless GM is not very confident in the refresh.
>> There is no reason not to show us the truck already
What if it actually looks really good, and then nobody wants to buy the thousands of the 2021s they’ve already got stockpiled, mostly assembled?
Looks like they need to call back the designers who got laid off or are the vinyl body panels a new cost saving approach?
GM will need about a 70 day supply of Silverado/Sierra to launch a new re-design. GM is still selling as many or more of these trucks as they can build. Getting the supply to shut factories down to convert over to new design will take a little longer time than GM’s first estimate. Why no one will not come out and just tell it like it is. The demand for these trucks will not allow GM to build enough inventory to shut down for conversion.
Raymond J made a very good point as well as Dwight Morgan. I still hope we see it soon.
I have always been a “blind loyalist fan boy” of Chevy but the delay of showing the refresh and the polarizing style of the current truck coupled with the excitement Ford has generated with the real Bronco has me leaning away just a bit. And I am itching to buy something now.
I’ll miss that cheap, crappy interior.
Don’t worry, everyone else will update their trucks in a couple of years and make this look like a cheap, crappy interior all over again.
Hehe!
HAHA
I hope not. Lets hope that GM has learned its lesson with cheap interiors going forward.
Don’t worry you’ll still have the 24 gallon tank with a range of about 160-180 miles when you’re towing a trailer. It won’t be offset by the 3.23 gears either.
Just very aggravating that the other manufacturers can release new updated trucks but GM can not. GM is gonna screw around and lose a significant amount of marketshare that will be hard pressed to recoup
By refresh do you mean it will look more like a tundra because the doors look like an f-150. It seems every manufacturer it trying to see how closely they can look like a tundra. Try to stand out from the crowd like manufacturers did back when they made real vehicles
Huh?
Yeah that was a weird statement. The Tundra is like something from 2005. Oh yeah, because it hasn’t changed in 15 years.
Wouldn’t own a Toyota if you gave it to me!
>> Wouldn’t own a Toyota if you gave it to me!
Americans in general would not agree with you. They buy a lot of Toyotas.
The entire cab including doors have the exact same skin as the current truck. They haven’t changed anything about the doors. So if the new Ford and this Chevy have similar doors, it wasn’t GM copying Ford.
I just purchased a new GMC Elevation, completely blacked out with several options added included aftermarket leather (katzkin) and despite all the slack you give GM, the interior serves the purpose of a true truck buyer. Yes, it doesn’t have all the bells and whistles like RAM but it’s still a great looking truck. I’m extremely happy with my purchase and stand behind it. Love it or not, it’s a truck not a loaded SUV. Just my two cents
Just so you know, you bought a Sierra.
Bring back the regular cab long bed in an Lt or nicer trim, not an ugly work truck!!!
If you go HD they still offer the LT/SLE on regular cab. Just not on 1500s. The Middle East they offer it, and in a short box too! RST and LT Trail Boss.
Reveal the damn thing… people will still buy the limited especially since Chevy is known for their discounts. I’m shocked that there hasn’t been some clear leaked photos in some time.
Orders for the 2022 Chevy Silverado will open July 15th, but we have no clue what it looks like… hmmm
Reveal it. Let’s go…
True story. Gm shoots themselves in the foot constantly. Too many corporate ladder climbers as opposed to paying attention to products… 1970s and 1980s and 1990s all over again.. take some risks geez.
So I’m confused. So both the 2022 Silverado and Sierra “limited” versions will begin production Sept 20th while the refresh interior upgrade version “2022 Silverado and Sierra” will start order taking July 15th?? Or is the much anticipated interior upgrade versions not coming till Late 2022 or early 2023?!
I’ve been patiently waiting to buy a new truck since word of these much needed interior upgrades was suppose to come last fall, then spring, then summer and the this Fall.
I agree with what another guy said, be nice to least see what new trucks will look like in order to even know if i like what they’ve done.
I’m not a Ford or Dodge guy and Toyota isn’t too appealing even with their new upgrade coming. What’s a guy going to do?!!!
>> I’m not a Ford or Dodge guy and Toyota isn’t too appealing even with their new upgrade coming. What’s a guy going to do?!!!
You could buy a Ram like so many others are doing. Dodge hasn’t made trucks in over a decade.
Vey excited to see the updated Silverado.
And also gm is about to abandon gas burners and diesel burners they don’t care about you. So enjoy your tundra look alike plastic let downs
I have a deposit on a RST Rally that isn’t built yet, I hope rebates increase to get rid of those fugly sideburn trucks with crappy interiors. I have always saved big time on leftover outgoing models. Another good thing for truck buyers is the dealer inventory is increasing. 3 dealers near me have 3 to 4 times the trucks they had just a month ago. So come on GM, show those refreshed trucks and I’ll help get rid of one of the old ones for ya.
Just fix the damn seats already. Please!
Very disappointed in GMs decision to delay refresh. Have a 2019 Trailboss but probably heading to a Ford dealership to check out the new F 150 Tremor. Get with the program GM!
Doesn’t matter what kind of refresh they pull off here, it’s going to take a solid kick to the junk before it even gets off the ground and be back a square one.
