Hercules Electric Vehicles has signed a long-term agreement with legendary Italian design house and coachbuilder Pininfarina to pen the upcoming Hercules Alpha electric pickup truck, as well as other Hercules products under development. When it launches, the Hercules Alpha will rival the upcoming Chevy Silverado EV.
Founded in Turin, Italy in 1930, Pininfarina has provided automotive design work for a long list of customers, including Ferrari, Fiat, Maserati, Alfa Romeo, Lancia, and several others. Pininfarina has also provided design work for various General Motors vehicles over the years, the first example of which was a spider variant of the V16 Cadillac for the Maharajah of Orccha in 1931.
Now, Pininfarina will apply its design prowess to the Hercules Alpha pickup, which is set to launch late for the 2022 calendar year. What’s more, Pininfarina will also produce design solutions for Hercules’ retail locations with regard to product showcasing and vehicle ordering.
“We are excited to work with Hercules on the design of a new electric vehicle,” said SVP, Sales and Marketing at Pininfarina, Giuseppe Bonollo. “Pininfarina has always been at the forefront of electric mobility. We bring to this new venture with a North American partner our ability to develop a new design language having in mind both our client’s brand identity and our shared commitment to environmental sustainability.”
The upcoming Hercules Alpha will feature powertrain configurations producing upwards of 1,000 horsepower and 800 pound-feet of torque, offering a four-motor drive system with torque-vectoring capability for sharp handling. The electric pickup will also feature high-strength carbon-composite materials for the hood, body panels, and wheels, as well as a standard solar tonneau cover harness capable of generating 1.2kWh, equivalent to 19 miles of range.
In addition to the Pininfarina-designed exterior, the Hercules Alpha will also offer custom interior designs with available vegan upholstery options.
