A video showing a Chevy Silverado 1500 plowing into a Ford Focus that had come to a near stop on the highway was shared to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit and the ViralHog YouTube channel this week, serving as a helpful reminder to always pay attention when behind the wheel.
This clip was posted to Reddit by the owner of the dashcam with the title “Dodged a car accident today.” The 25-second video starts with the cammer travelling in the far left lane as a GMT900-generation Chevy Silverado 1500 travels just ahead of their car in the middle lane. Traffic then comes to a sudden stop, forcing a black second-generation Ford Focus to slow down rapidly. The Silverado driver, seemingly distracted or not paying attention, then tries to brake and swerve to avoid the Focus, but at this point it’s too late. The Silverado slams into the back of the focus, sending it spinning into the path of the cammer’s car, which it narrowly misses before hitting the middle divider and coming to a rest.
Distracted driving a huge problem these days. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, an estimated 424,000 people were injured and another 3,142 people were killed in motor vehicle crashes involving distracted drivers in 2019. We can’t confirm if the driver of the Chevy Silverado 1500 that caused this crash was distracted, but after reviewing the video, it certainly seems as though they were looking at their phone, changing the radio or just observing the mountainous countryside. Some blame can be placed on the black Hyundai Elantra that appears to slow down for absolutely no reason, but this accident could have been avoided if the Silverado driver was looking at the road ahead. In case readers are wondering, this crash allegedly occurred on the I-15 in Utah near Farmington.

Yup, somebody hit someone on the highway.
More interesting to me is that this guy has a giant crack in his windshield and posted that on the internet for everyone to see.
I hope he gets a fix-it ticket.
You really see a lot of stupid on the highways. I’ve often said that drivers who are driving too slowly are about as dangerous as those driving too fast. I’ll add that drivers who exaggerate their reactions on the freeways create a lot of problems. Just last week I was driving on the 405 S/B in Los Angeles. A lady in an older Ford Taurus almost missed her exit (Come on people, you can always go to the next exit and back-track!!). So she goes slowly into the median where the exit divides from the freeway and stops with her turn signal on. Ok, so she did this safely and without incident, but other cars taking the exit now had to watch her. Sure enough, another “overly cautious” lady in a car behind me slammed on her brakes and almost stopped while honking her horn at the other lady waiting to exit. This stupid action nearly caused a multi-car accident because the second lady exiting the freeway made an exaggerated move that no other drivers were expecting. IMO, both those ladies should be forced to take a 40 hour driving school course.
^ sorry to upset you, Karen (Nate)
I think more interesting is that the car ahead of the one rear ended was completely missed. The truck driver was clearly not paying attention, took quite a while to react
I watched it 6 times and still can’t figure out why the Elantra braked for so long and hard. People do dumb things. Drive accordingly.
Lets face it, women are the worst drivers PERIOD!
I think it’s ALL young drivers … they have a phone in one hand, a coffee or bottle of water in another and some have cigarettes .. Drive the damn car and play games at home !! I’m 68, my dad wouldn’t let us use the radio until we had a few t years behind the wheel .. NO distractions.
Accidents create distractions and people slowing to look. Let’s face it the guy that got hit was looking as well as the truck was looking at the cop.
Too often the cops get hit by drunks too with their lights on.
I had a lady who signaled and started to turn left then made a wide turn to the right and run me off the road tonight. At least I was able to accelerate away from her. People just are not paying attention.
Maybe the driver of the truck was distracted by the message that comes up on the screen while driving that states that one should not take their eyes off the road while driving.
What amazes me is the fact that what we don’t see is a bunch of dumbass’s all packed in the fast lane like they do here in So. Cal. That and the driver of the Sil’y didn’t swerve to their left where there were two open lanes, probably would have been rear-ended on camera. They must do a lot of swerving to their right?
What doesn’t amaze me is that here in the United States of America, their are over 16,400 traffic accidents each day, yet Sam can only find the ones were the driver who causes the accident is driving a GM vehicle.
Pitiful!
