Chevy Silverado 1500 Recalled For Unsecured Airbag Cover

General Motors has issued a product safety recall for certain examples of the 2021 model-year Chevy Silverado 1500 that may have a loose airbag cover.

The problem: in affected vehicles, the front driver’s side airbag module may be missing one or more of the metal tabs that are intended to secure the plastic airbag cover to the housing.

The hazards: if left in this condition, the front driver’s side airbag may not properly fill and position in a deployment, increasing the risk of injury in the event of a crash.

The fix: dealers will inspect the front driver’s side airbag and, if necessary, replace the airbag module. All involved vehicles that are still in dealer inventory must be held and not delivered to customers, dealer traded or used for demonstration purposes until the repair mentioned here has been completed.

Affected components: driver’s side front airbag module.

Affected vehicles:

Number of affected vehicles: GM did not say how many Chevy Silverado 1500 trucks may have been shipped with loose front airbag modules.

Next steps: GM will notify owners of affected trucks vehicles and instruct them to make an appointment with their dealer.
