The Ford Expedition took second place in the segment with 47,508 deliveries (see running Ford Expedition sales), ahead of the Tahoe/Suburban’s corporate cousin – the GMC Yukon – in third place (see running GMC Yukon sales). It’s worth noting that Expedition sales figures include those of the regular-length Expedition (a Tahoe competitor) and those of the extended-length Expedition XL (a Suburban competitor), as does the GMC Yukon, which includes Yukon and Yukon XL sales, while Tahoe and Suburban sales are reported separately.

On a combined basis, Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe sales accounted for a dominant 41 percent segment share. The Ford Expedition came in second with 26 percent, and the GMC Yukon family saw a 23 percent segment share.

The GM Authority Take

Thanks to the healthy increase in volume, Chevy Suburban and Tahoe sales in the first half enabled the Bow Tie brand to not only maintain its long-standing position as the undisputed sales leader in the mainstream, full-size SUV segment, but also to post its best-ever sales figure during the first half of the year since 2008.

We attribute the healthy performance in Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe deliveries to the following factors:

Going forward, we expect Chevy Suburban and Tahoe sales to continue to deliver at current levels, given that production/supply remains uninterrupted.

  1. The big sales increases are well deserved for General Motors with their new Suburban and Tahoe. They’ve pulled out all of the stops and knocked it out of the park with their new redesigns. I just wish that most of their other products are executed just as well as their new full-size SUV lineup.

    1. Great, to include the Denali but where the hell are people finding them. Here in the DFW metroplex we have about the largest Chevy dealer there is with generally 3000+ vehicles on the lot. You will not find a Tahoe or Suburban on the lot and there are about 2000 empty spaces………………….so again, how did they sell what we cannot find?

      1. Very ironic since that’s the only place they’re made.

      2. Agreed, we can’t even find one to take a look at.

  2. So When can I order a 2022 suburban at dealer?? Build date is October 4????

    1. Around that timeframe, yes.

  3. Great news, GM should push more Yukon’s out so both Yukon and Tahoe sales could be higher than Ford. Then take a page out of Ford PR book as the best selling full-size SUV’s for (insert #) years!

    1. GM already dominates the full size SUV market. They aren’t chasing Ford, Ford is chasing them.

      1. To the downvoters, GM owns 64% of the market. The closest competitor owns 26%. Under what pretense does GM not dominate?

        1. its more about snubbing ford. Hes saying the yukon should also outsale ford.

          1. But don’t who own the light truck market and has for 40 OR 50 YEARS. Don’t think Ford is panicking over Tahoe or Sububan sales . Ford sells the equivalent vehicles only under 2 divisions not 3 like GM. Yet the sales numbers aren’t very far off. Doubt the Ford family will be Wal-mart shopping anytime this century

  4. Combine the Chevrolet numbers with GMC’s to appreciate how truly dominant GM (gm) is in this market segment.

  5. Just as I predicted.

  6. Great news for the GM yachts but the problem is the rest of the world these SUV’s don’t sell for they get taxed out of existence, fuel cost is to high, vehicle cost too high, many countries these vehicles are too big for city streets and a host of other reasons I’m sure. If they did GM would be top seller in the world. Now only if the smaller vehicle lines could dominate the market.

    1. The GEM market cars take care of that, mostly smaller sedans in S/A and Asia.

  7. If GM got rid of the fuel Management systems and build a HD version to sell to the public and offer more options like the Rear seat entertainment system for the LS, the sales would increase more than ever.

  8. Not surprising. It’s the best thing GM does even with that strange front end styling. I

  9. You just can’t beat GM’s V8, rear wheel driven vehicles. The only disappointment is that they don’t make more models on that platform.
