Competitive Sales Comparison (USA)
Buick Enclave sales performance during the second quarter of 2021 keeps the large three-row crossover in second place out of seven rivals in its competitive set in terms of overall sales volume.
The segment was led by the Acura MDX in first, followed by the Enclave in second. Third place went to the Volvo XC90, which was 3,449 units behind the Enclave (see running Volvo XC90 sales). Fourth place went to the Audi Q7 (see running Audi Q7 sales), followed by the Enclave’s corporate cousin – the Cadillac XT6 – in fifth. The Lincoln Aviator was sixth, and the Infiniti QX60 took seventh (and last) place. Notably, the QX60 was the only vehicle in the segment to experience a decline in sales volume during the quarter, which was the result of a generational changeover to the all-new model.
From a segment share standpoint, the MDX claimed 28 percent while the Enclave followed with 21 percent. The XC90 and Q7 followed with 17 percent and 14 percent, respectively. The Cadillac XT6 claimed 10 percent, the Lincoln Aviator took 8 percent, and Infiniti QX60 accounted for a mere 1 percent.

For the sake of reference, we are providing sales figures for the Lexus RX below. The vehicle is now offered in both two- and three-row variants, the latter of which competes in the general space as the aforementioned three-row models. Since Lexus does not break out sales of the two-row RX from the three-row RXL, not all RX sales can be applied to the premium three-row CUV segment. Instead, a more apt comparison would be to compare RXL sales to combined sales of the Cadillac XT5, Cadillac XT6 and Buick Enclave.

The GM Authority Take
The increase in Buick Enclave sales in the second quarter of 2021 is reassuring after the increases reported during the first quarter of 2021 and fourth quarter of 2020. These increases come after several quarters of in-the-red performance, including:
- 25 percent decrease in the third quarter of 2020
- 51 percent drop in the second quarter of 2020
- 30 percent drop in the first quarter of 2020
- 30 percent decline in the fourth quarter of 2019
With an increase in sales volume, the Enclave has managed to retain a very strong position in a very competitive segment while also growing its market share. What makes the feat even more impressive is that it managed to do this following industry-wide setbacks brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.
We attribute the increase in Enclave sales during Q2 2021 to improved supply of the vehicle at the retail level. However, the Enclave also saw internal competition from another GM product – the Cadillac XT6. Even so, both models managed to report healthy sales volumes during the quarter. Adding the sales volume of the Enclave and XT6 equates to 22,247 units, which is good enough to take 31 percent segment share for a first-place position.

We believe that Buick Enclave sales will continue to grow in the near- to medium-term future, as ample supply joins forces with strong demand for premium crossovers. In addition, the Enclave will soon become even more competitive thanks to the upcoming launch of the refreshed model.
Originally, GM planned to launch the Enclave refresh/mid-cycle enhancement for the 2021 model year, but the COVID-19 pandemic pushed the model back by one model year. The updated version will now launch as the 2022 Buick Enclave.

Union made by hard working Americans in Lansing Michigan.
Just had to say that before the stupid people show up.
What does any of that have to do with its sales.
Unfortunately, little! Americans seem content with giving our neighbor’s jobs to China. Building up a rival and political adversary.
Germans want German cars. French want French. Americans hate unions while most other Western nations admire worker protection.
Go figure! Only we take overseers part!
And what’s wrong with that? At the end of the day Buick is “registered” in the US. Most of the taxes they pay go straight to the US government no matter if the car is sold in the US or China (or Mexico or Canada). So in my opinion I really don’t care where the Buick is made because I know at the end of the day the revenue is coming back to this country.
Your table says MDX had the highest pct growth seemingly rendering your headline wrong.
Even the buick enclave has 2x the sales numbers compared to the xt6.
I’m still content with my 06 Buick Rainier. Came close many times of trading in for an Enclave through the years. With only 70k miles, it’s still going strong
I’m honestly shocked the Enclave sells this well! I love mine and it’s absolutely well deserved.
