The upcoming 2022 GMC Canyon is the last model year of the current-generation pickup, with a new generation slated to arrive for the 2023 model year. However, before its departure, the 2022 GMC Canyon is offering customers a little custom style with the new Denali Black Edition package, as seen here in the following GM Authority Photo Gallery.
Essentially, the 2022 GMC Canyon Denali Black Edition Package replaces some of the Denali’s chrome trim bits with new black components, giving the midsize pickup a fresh new look.
Tagged with RPO code PEF, the Denali Black Edition Package is only available to order in conjunction with the Onyx Black exterior color (RPO GBA) and Jet Black interior upholstery color (RPO H2X). The package made its debut on social media a few days ago, and now, we’re taking a closer look at what it has to offer.
For starters, the 2022 GMC Canyon Denali Black Edition Package includes a set of 20-inch aluminum, low gloss Black wheels (RPO RZO), which feature a split five-spoke design complements the Onyx Black paint. The side view also reveals a set of Black 5-inch rectangular assist steps (RPO RVS), which replace the 5-inch chrome production assist steps (RPO E15) equipped on the standard pickup truck.
Additionally, the 2022 GMC Canyon Denali Black Edition Package also features a GMC Black Chrome Exhaust Tip (RPO VTA), which replaces the standard polished exhaust tip (RPO VQZ). It’s a small detail, but looks good when noticed.
Further upgrades are found inside the cabin, where we find All Weather Floor Liners (RPO AAK).
To note, the 2022 GMC Canyon Denali Black Edition Package is unavailable with the Power Package (RPO PDG), Cat-Back Performance Exhaust Upgrade System (RPO WBC), All-weather floor mats (RPO VAV), and All-weather floor liners (RPO RIA).
For the moment, pricing for the package is unavailable, as pricing for the standard 2022 GMC Canyon Denali is also unavailable. However, for reference, the 2021 GMC Canyon Denali 2WD Crew Cab / Short Box starts at $42,890.
To note, the upcoming 2023 GMC Canyon will roll atop an updated version of the GMT-31XX platform called 31XX-2. Under the hood, the new Canyon will source motivation from the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline motor.

I see the pinch weld on the bottom of the cap now as a coating on it?
Not sure what you mean. Can you expand on that?
The pinch weld has a heavier coating on it vs my more smooth stone guard on mine. It is the stop on the bottom of the cab.
I just checked with the regional fleet rep for GM and the first orders for the GM Colorado and Canyon pickups in Canada can be placed on August 12th. It’s worth the wait to get these trucks with the 2.7 liter turbo gas engine with 358 pounds feet of torque on 87 octane gas but probably close to 376 lbs feet on mid grade 89 octane gas. .GM raised the max towing rate by about 1,200 pounds from last year because the engine still ran cool enough at the higher weight, with the 2.7 liter on the full size pickups.
The 2.7 is a year off till the new 23.
My understanding from the information we are receiving is that the big engine change will not happen until the 2023 model year.
With the refresh on the 2022 happening mid cycle, they will have enough to worry about.
Trying to milk every dollar of profit they can on the old model
