Originally scheduled for the 2021 model year, the launch of the refreshed Chevy Traverse was pushed back to the 2022 model year due to delays stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, however, we’re getting up close and personal with the refreshed 2022 Chevy Traverse on the floor of the 2021 Chicago Auto Show in the following GM Authority Live Photo Gallery.
These are our first in-person photos of the refreshed 2022 Chevy Traverse, giving us a detailed look at crossover’s updated exterior styling features. This particular model is a 2022 Chevy Traverse Premier AWD. The revised exterior body panels are finished in Iridescent Pearl Tricoat, a metallic color that gives the Traverse a classy look, while also providing a clean look at the updated styling.
Let’s start up front, where the 2022 Chevy Traverse presents with a new front fascia headlined by a reshaped grille and headlamp design. The headlamps are mounted high, pulled back into fenders while bookending the chiseled central grille. The new headlamps work with the horizontally oriented grille inserts to create a sense of width for the front end, while a prominent polished central styling bar draws the eye towards a golden Bow Tie badge.
Standard spec includes LED headlamps and daytime running lamps.
Moving over into the profile view, the 2022 Chevy Traverse gains a new roof rail design with a sleek look that deletes the central support seen on roof rails equipped on 2021-model-year vehicles. Also notice this particular model’s polished trim bits, including those for the window surrounds, door handles, and lower styling line, all of which work to complement the silver finish for the multi-spoke wheels.
Speaking of which, the 2022 Chevy Traverse offers four new wheel designs total, as well as power-folding, heated outside mirrors as standard on Premier trim levels. The heated mirrors are also standard on RS and High Country trims, and are offered as optional on the 3LT trim.
The changes continue into the rear, where we spot revised tail lamp housings, which are also equipped with LED lighting elements. The tail lamps continue the horizontal layout seen in the front end styling, and include sharp inner graphics as well.
Further noteworthy features include a rear-mounted “shark fin” antenna on the roof, polished trim in the hatch and bumper, and dual trapezoidal exhaust ports, also with a polished finish. We should also mention that the 2022 Chevy Traverse offers a maximum cargo room of 98.2 cubic-feet with the second and third-row folded down.
As for the greasy bits, the refreshed Traverse is motivated by 310 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque sourced from the naturally aspirated 3.6L V6 LFY gasoline engine. The V6 connects to nine-speed automatic transmission, powering the front axle as standard, and all four wheels as an optional extra.
The 2022 Chevy Traverse was originally scheduled to roll off the production line at GM’s Lansing Delta Township plant in Michigan on August 2nd. However, it is possible the ongoing global microchip shortage could result in delays.

I think this is now one of Chevy’s cleanest designed vehicles. The recently killed Impala was another one. No odd angles, strange grille designs etc. It may not wow people on day 1, but will continue to look good 5 years from now which you cannot say for most vehicles.
My 04 Tahoe still continues to look good and wow people to this day and I don’t even wash it.
Sooooooooooooooooo vanilla. Why can Kia make attractive vehicles and GM can’t?
If they don’t make anything you don’t like, you know what to do…
I disagree and I’m pretty critical of their stuff. I’d like to see the Redline too, as that was the best looking one before the update.
Seriously? KIA is so small it’s not even fair to pir it in the same class. 99.8 cu ft cargo space. Try that in your Keeeeuhhhh
Very nice looking model but it has been around a long time. They need to update it in a significant way.
Totally agree! They also need to change up the colors! Iridescent Pearlcoat has been around forever!
This generation was introduced in 2018… that really is not that long ago.
I’m not sure why the Traverse was locked at the show. One of the Corvettes was also roped off. Overall, the venue was much smaller than previous years. My wife and I spent more time at the Navy Pier than the auto show.
Great!, a Chevy that looks like a Chrysler minivan. Soooooo exciting.
And a Corvette looks like a Viper. ??
You got it. No essuuvee for me. Never. Ever. Ever
What, no interior pictures? Chevy afraid the insides will look the same as the 2018 Traverse?
Wow a big equinox ..or trail blazer ,,look like ,,
Soon to be laughably outsold by the Explorer and Highlander
I agree, one of the best…I bought a 19 Premier and do not regret buying it over the Korean Twins, to small inside, test drove with big sales guys for a total of 5 passengers and wow, what a difference, both are slugs, steering was mush, acceleration was weak compared to the Traverse. The Explorer was no different until I test drove the Eco turbo, a very different Explorer from the others and is worthy of buying but I didn’t want a psuedo cop car…
Lol…Toyota, very small inside and the power plant ranked below the Korean Twins. Didn’t consider the Mazda or Nissan and Euro’s were out of my range – no lease for me.
Haven’t regretted buying so far with 40k miles.
My brother had one and loved it. But apparently the parking brake would engage while driving. He found out that it is a known fault of the vehicle but no recall has been made. He quickly traded it in for a Honda. It is so sad that GM vehicles still have issues of this kind. It is more disturbing that they do not address the issue, especially since it could cause accidents.
Come on GM you should do Better!
I hear ya… The issue is with the 2021 models. No other gm brand has experienced the engaged e-brake…yet.
I have the 19 Premier and no issues.
So what about the interior which is usually where GM problems start and finish….
We downsized from a Suburban to a 2020 Traverse (premier edition) and love it. We test drove Explorer, Kia, Hyundai, Toyota, and Honda… but kept coming back to the Traverse. Better comfort, more passenger and cargo space. Great performance on the road both with horsepower and handling. If given a chance for a do over, I would buy it again.
I’ve been waiting for the 2022 traverse to become available for some time. I finally found a Silver Ice Metallic 2022 with the Premier trim level in transit to a nearby Chevy dealer, and put down a hold fee to claim it while it was still in transit. I picked it up from the dealer on 12/18/21. From reading the above comments, I see some people don’t care the looks, but the 22 is a real head-turner. It borders on stunning! Also, the 6cyl. engine is super responsive. You don’t need to press the gas pedal very much to get this vehicle moving at a good clip.
I’m not a fan of the engine start/stop feature, probably because I’m not used to it. However, the 22 Traverse has a start/stop disable button. You just need to push it every time you start the engine to override it.
My only dislike is the shift lever and some other controls on the center console. I’m just not a fan of that. But every mid-size on the market went that route. I wanted the 22 traverse. But was torn between the 22 Tahoe and the 22 Traverse. Simply because the Tahoe still has a column shifter.
The interior is larger than the Tahoe that I previously owned. The 22 Traverse has seven inches more in overall body length than my old Tahoe. That, coupled with the Traverse’s more cab-forward design, makes for an enormous area behind the front seats. From the center console to the lift-gate measures a whopping 7 1/2 feet. No other mid-size SUV can come close to that.
I knew before I purchased the 22 traverse that it wasn’t rated at the top of its class. That didn’t matter to me. If I had it to do over again, I’d still buy the 22 Traverse over the “top-rated” mid-sized SUV’s. It’s just the most beautiful mid-sized SUV on the market. And it has the largest cabin. Chevrolet nailed it with the 22 Traverse.
