Certain 2022 Cadillac XT6 models will no longer be available with wireless phone charging technology.
Previously, wireless phone charging was standard on Premium Luxury and Sport trim levels for the 2021-model-year Cadillac XT6, and unavailable on the base Luxury trim. However, as a result a of the ongoing global microchip shortage, availability of the wireless phone charging feature will be limited to select 2022 Cadillac XT6 Premium Luxury and Sport units, depending in chip supply.
The limited availability of the wireless phone charging feature for the 2022 Cadillac XT6 will go into effect for models with a scheduled production date on or after August 2nd, 2021. Affected models will be tagged with RPO code R6S, indicating they are not equipped with the wireless phone charging feature. Affected models will also include a $75 MSRP credit.
The change in availability is expected to remain in place for a portion of the 2022 model year for the Cadillac XT6.
The limited availability of the wireless phone charging feature supports GM’s efforts to continue production and delivery of new vehicles as the industry continues to grapple with the global microchip shortage.
The 2022 Cadillac XT6 isn’t the only GM model affected by the limited availability of the wireless phone charging feature. As GM Authority has covered previously, certain 2021 model-year GM full-size SUVs are also effected, as is the 2022 Buick Enclave, 2022 Cadillac XT5, and 2022 Chevy Traverse.
The global microchip has affected the entire auto industry, with manufacturers forced to cut production and inventory significantly diminished. In May, one estimate placed lost GM production figures at approximately 278,000 units around the world.
To help reduce the shortage’s impact on production, General Motors has deleted some features from its model lineup. This includes the wireless phone charging feature mentioned above, as well as the automatic engine stop-start feature, which has been deleted from certain full-size GM SUVs.
To keep production rolling, GM has also adopted a “build-shy” strategy wherein vehicles are produced without critical components, then parked as new microchips are sourced for completion.

ZJMCT8 Cadillac Order #
Referance # Thanks for holding, Dennis! I have alerted the dealership and CEM regarding this issue. As an option, you may also reach out to the Customer Experience Manager, his name is Allen Black and his phone #s are (814) 472-9550 and (877) 209-5471. Again, I do apologize for this. The reference id for this is 9-6769748877.
I ordered a new Cadillac CT5V on January 3rd and the dealer has $60,000.00 of my money and they keep giving me new production dates. I was told it was to be built May 20th now they’re saying August 8th. When I get it the 2022’s will be coming soon and a year on a Cadillac is around $8000 plus they lowered the rebate $500. I am livid about this as I just spent 80K on a new Vette with GM and that’s the thanks I get. They told me they have enough chips to build all the cars ordered early in the year like mine but another lie. When my Cadillac comes in at this point it better be tagged a 2022.
Is GM/Cadillac going to provide any type of retrofit for adding this function back in when the semiconductor supply issue is in the past for those that would still like it? The cell phone holder designed into the center console becomes worthless when you have to connect a cable to the phone for charging it instead of having the wireless charging implemented.
