2022 Buick Encore GX Gets New Safety Package II

The 2022 Buick Encore GX is the third model year of the current first-gen vehicle, arriving with a few changes and updates compared to the preceding 2021 model year. This includes the addition of Safety Package II as an optional extra.

The Safety Package II for the 2022 Buick Encore GX is tagged with RPO code PCW, and includes the following content (relevant RPO codes listed in parentheses):

Both of the features listed above were previously fitted as standard on Select and Essence trims for the 2021 Buick Encore GX.

Further changes ushered in with the 2022 model year include the deletion of five exterior colors, specifically (relevant paint codes listed in parentheses):

  • Black Currant Metallic (G5O)
  • Burnished Bronze Metallic (G8I)
  • Dark Moon Blue Metallic (G5J)
  • Chili Red Metallic (GIL)
  • Deep Azure Metallic (GUM)

In addition, the 2022 Buick Encore GX will introduce four new exterior paint color options, including Cinnabar Metallic (GFM), Sapphire Metallic (GGK), Sunset Glow Metallic (GHD), and Rosewood Metallic (GHL).

Engine options for the 2022 Buick Encore GX will continue to include the turbocharged 1.2L I3 LIH gasoline engine and the turbocharged 1.3L I3 L3T gasoline engine. However, as GM Authority covered previously, the 1.3L I3 L3T gasoline engine will incorporate a few small modifications for the 2022 model year with the intention of giving the driver “a quieter ride and a quicker acceleration response,” per a GM Authority interview with Buick and GMC Product & Brand Communications Coordinator Bethany Corne.

Additionally, both engines will include small updates to fuel economy figures.

Under the skin, the 2022 Buick Encore GX rides on the GM VSS-F vehicle set. The body style will continue on as a compact five-door crossover SUV, slotting in between the smaller Buick Encore and the compact Buick Envision.

  1. Is it called the Bozo package because this thing is a clown car. I owned one and got rid of it in 3 months. One of the worst cars I ever owned. Uncomfortable, short wheel base thus tge cheap ride. Cramped interior, great for Europe, not here.

    1. Yea right…I bet you owned one of every GM auto, became unsatisfied and got rid of them in three months too.

    2. I call nonsense. The short wheelbase was there for the viewing when you were considering your purchase. Did you not take it for any sort of a test drive?

  2. Typical GM mentality, we had something standard which is now an option so that you could call that a lower priced model to begin with. It adds absolutely nothing to the value proposition and I’d rather get a regular encore essence that comes standard with all those features already for 5,000 less
