BMW has unveiled the all-new second-generation 2 Series Coupe, introducing new styling, new engine specs, sharper handling, more interior room, and new tech. When it launches this fall, the new BMW 2 Series Coupe will rival the Chevy Camaro and Cadillac CT4.
Outside, the new BMW 2 Series Coupe is longer, wider, and lower than the first-generation models, while also offering a longer wheelbase. The new look includes three-dimensional surfaces and triangular shapes, plus a turbine-style kidney grille with vertical air flaps. Flared fenders and a shaped power dome hood give it a sporty attitude, while the chrome trim can be replaced with available high-gloss black trim. LED headlights are standard, and adaptive lighting is optional.
The interior spec includes a revised layout with standard Sport seats and a Sport leather steering wheel, standard dual-zone climate control, and standard driver assists like Frontal Collision Warning with braking, Lane Departure Warning, and Dynamic Cruise Control.
Under the hood is a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder engine producing 255 horsepower at 5,000 rpm and 295 pound-feet of torque at 1,550 rpm, a 7-horsepower and 37-pound-feet increase compared to the preceding model. With the four-banger, the 2022 BMW 2 Series Coupe can hit 60 mph in 5.5 seconds and achieve a top speed up to 155 mph.
The 2022 BMW 2 Series Coupe is also offered with a turbocharged 3.0L I6 engine producing 382 horsepower at 5,800 rpm and 369 pound-feet of torque at 1,800 rpm, a 47-horsepower and 1-pound-foot increase compared to the predecessor. With the six-cylinder, the 2022 BMW 2 Series Coupe can hit 60 mph in 4.1 seconds and achieve a top speed up to 155 mph.
An eight-speed automatic transmission is standard, with both RWD and AWD offered to put the power down.
Two models will be available at launch, including the 2022 BMW 2 Series 230i and M240i xDrive, while the 230i xDrive and M240i Coupe will follow. Pricing starts at $36,350 for 230i Coupe models and $48,550 for M240i xDrive Coupe, plus $995 Destination. The 2022 BMW 2 Series Coupe is set for market launch this November.

Delusional if one thinks this is a Chevy Camaro rival! If they are rivals then the 2-series will win. Want to know why BMW will actually be able to build this machine and will advertise it. The same can’t be said for lowercase gm. Not a direct rival to the CT4. As if one wants a coupe they will get a coupe. There really isn’t a compromise for the guy that sets out to buy a coupe. Just because the camaro is a lowercase gm coupe does not mean it rivals a tier 1 luxury brand.

Why should GM waste money making 2 Series competition?. The Camaro still covers the bases if you want a performance coupe that’s not mid-engined.

Probably because right now everyone wants 4×4’s as their “sport” vehicle. What will happen when the next generation what’s to be different and wants fast cars, not knobby gas guzzlers (I say as I just added bigger tires to my truck 🤣) ford also isn’t selling many mustangs, but keeps it around. Chevy dropped the Colorado, and look at how long it’s taking them to reclaim sales from the awful Taco. The Camaro still isn’t as bad a money tank as the Impala was before they dropped it. I’m more wondering why GM doesn’t drop EV’s with nearly half of American EV buyers saying their next car will be gas and the recent reports from the China market showed GMs most popular EV pulls only 14$ profit…….

At Chevy it doesn’t take much for a perspective Colorado buyer to upgrade to a Silverado.
At Toyota the Tundra is not an upgrade. It’s outdated gas guzzling white elephant. When compared to the vehicles of today, the Tundras lack of maneuverability and long stopping distance make it a hazard to its occupants and those around it. Like most Toyotas it should have gotten the Old Yeller treatment a long time ago.

In its 6 years on the market GM has sold 270,000 Camaros in the U.S. Rumors of it not selling have been greatly exaggerated.
dblezy: The problem is that BMW really isn’t “tier 1 luxury” any more unless you go way up the food chain to the 5 series or higher. Both BMW and MB have sold themselves out so badly just for a “luxury” sales title that they no longer hit the spot like they once did (again, unless you go way up the chain). So I feel this article is spot on for the 2 series coupe vs. Camaro. I will agree with you that this car isn’t a direct competitor to the CT4, but not because of the 2 vs 4 doors. I could care less what the companies or auto writers try to tell us. Fact is the 3 series aligns well with the CT4.
I personally have a 2020 CT4 and a 2021 Volvo S60 T8. My co-worked in our department has a 2021 BMW 3 series base car with some M package. HIs car has just a little less room than my CT4 and isn’t nearly as nice IMO.

Since 2er is rwd. turbo I6 unicorn compact 3-box coupe, pretty much last of its kind before BMW cut ICE production in half for roll-out of announced 25 new EV. BMW have become full range manufacturer, just as original 2002 tii was alternative to original pony cars, so this is now, BMW have actually gone upmarket & don’t offer entry level fwd. in North America (unlike Mercedes).
Dcto: Are you sure about that? I just Googled and from what I know, the BMW does offer a smaller front drive car in the USA.
It may have changed, they import the fwd. UKL platform they share with MINI, but I thought the BMW models sold here were awd. I wish they would sell fwd., 128ti looks like a great ride, small 3 Series was great car.

BMW sells a large number of 3series, X3s and X5s. Their performance line the Mseries doesn’t sell that well.
Cadillac sells Escalades. They sell a hell of a lot of Escalades. Giving them the higher ATPs than any full line luxury brand.
The “Tier 1” label doesn’t count for much.
lol…? for the same price as the base model 230 with the 2.0T engine doing 0-60 in 5.5s, you can buy a Camaro SS with a Corvette engine that does 0-60 in 3.9s. The base model Camaro 2.0T does 0-60 in 5.4s auto and 5.1s manual costs $15000 less. Competition? Want to bring up handling too? The Camaro SS and ZL1 equipped with the 1LE track package are BREAKING LAP TIME RECORDS at the Nurburgring and competing with Ferrari’s and Porsche’s.
The Camaro is my favorite car, but I would also buy a 2 Series BMW if the time was right. The 2 Series BMW is my favorite euro-sports car. Lets stop hating.
This is an entry level BMW that is not cheap and even more expensive to repair.
I used to not get why people wanted a Porsche or BMW. Then I have driven many of each.
Now I get why people like a 911. It makes going stupid fast feel slow. The mark of a well tuned car. Much like today’s Corvette too.
As for the BMW out side the very top end sports cars I have no clue why anyone desires one of these. Expensive to buy, expensive to repair and rust prone, problem prone and horrible resale.
BMW has had to increase volume buy going to lower priced models that are just lacking. They are for those who can’t afford a good one and enough to say I have a BMW.

Throw in Rolls & MINI & BMW Group are #1 global premium, did 2 record quarters pre-COVID on pricey new ICE 8 Series & X7. Daimler have announced they are segregating car & truck manufacture in attempt to move further upmarket & away from their volume fwd. 4 cyl. compacts.
Dcto: That all may be correct, but the majority of the sales from the BMW line and thus the majority of the sales for this group of cars come from the more basic, smaller cars in the BMW line.
Not according to businesswire’s July 1 breakdown of their sales. Plus, bulk of BMW sales now their “light truck” X crossovers, higher median prices & margins (+ apparently record volume last 1/4). Wasn’t aware they sold “more basic, smaller cars in the BMW line.”
Some clarifications please? Cadillac covers the first maintenance visit only! BMW covers all maintenance visits for 3 years of 36,000 miles. From my perspective, my only costs with my BMWs has been normal maintenance.
Rust prone?? BMW warrants their vehicles for 12 years unlimited mileage whereas Cadillac is half that, 6 years unlimited mileage. Must be missing something?
Quite frankly my BMWs have been far and away superior to any of my Cadillacs, including an Escalade, CTS-V(the real one and not the pretend version), and a CT6 Platinum. This doesn’t include my conventional CTS’s and an ATS which was the most problematic vehicle I’ve ever owned.

Martin: If you are leasing and NEVER keep a BMW past the warranty, then you or anyone should be fine. Yes, i agree on that. But out of that 4/50K period? No way would I ever own/keep a Volvo, MB, Audi, BMW, Range Rover, etc etc. Cadillac and Lincoln? I would have zero problem keeping one well past the 4/50. On top of that, any of the services out of the covered period will cost you much more than on the Cadillac.
Rust? Depending on where you live, they will all rot out if salt/brine is used in the winters. I don’t car what brand it is.
I’m sure people buy the lower priced Cadillac’s just to say they drive a Cadillac. But I’m sure many on here will agree with me on this: at least in the USA and especially in southern California, is’t something they need almost like a drug to say they drive a BMW. However, most can’t afford them and so they drive the lowest priced one they can get. Kind of pathetic IMO.
Camaro holds a fantastic resale, this definitely will not.
All Germans and especially BMWs are the champions of the terrible resale value. This is just a fool’s gold, only non-car people buy this crap because they heard it’s a status symbol.
Most of BMW’s volume is crossover awd. X, why they are America’s biggest exporter of vehicles & expanded Spartanburg their largest factory. This coupe exists for niche sales & as basis for maybe last manual M2, current M2 CS repeatedly cited as best M car, promotes brand as performance label while allowing X volume sales.

Since it took Tesla a decade to produce fraction of BMW’s record annual global volume, how can they be “eating into their 3-series sales so much”? Yes, BMW is just pumping out so much crap that TOYOTA buy engines from them, as well as Rolls & MINI. Despite naming their sedans after decades old German benchmarks, BEV Tesla are no competition for ICE, that’s about to change as they lose their monopoly market to neu EV. Oh, & 3 Series actually entire model range sold globally, unlike Tesla’s namesake sole volume sedan.
Chevrolet (gm in general) might consider tearing a page out of the BMW colors book. The 2 Series Coupe doesn’t do much for me, but the purple would look great on a CT5-V Blackwing. BMW has some gorgeous colors to choose from unlike gm and their 20 shades of gray.
Leasing has made colour (like manual transmissions) a resale liability, why 2/3rds of volume industry is on the black/grey/white/silver monochrome. As with all things, BMW learned long ago they can charge more for colour, thus their Individual. Most Rolls Royces are waitlisted Bespoke, $$$. Most Camaros need to be rental fleet colour, I.e., NO colours.
Perhaps a better way of putting it is: why are people so Goddanged boring? Fortunately, some of us buy what we like and hold onto it, thus resale isn’t a concern. Every extroverted automobile I currently own is now “collectible” and worth shockingly more than what could’ve been expected based upon “popular” wisdom. Y’all remember when them crazy winged Daytonas was dirt cheap?? Wish I’d been quite a bit older.
