2021 GMC Sierra 1500 Performance Upgrade Package Unavailable To Order

The Performance Upgrade Package offered for the 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 is no longer available to order.

The Performance Upgrade Package for the 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 is tagged with RPO code PDM, and was offered as an LPO-level option, which means it was delivered to and installed by the dealer, rather than installed at the factory when the vehicle was first produced.

The 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 Performance Upgrade Package includes the following content (relevant RPO codes listed in parentheses):

  • Performance Air Intake System (5W7)
  • Cat-Back Performance Exhaust (WBC)

Both items listed above are LPO-level items as well.

The 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 Performance Upgrade Package was offered as an optional extra on GMC Sierra 1500 SLT, AT4, and Denali trim levels. The package required the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, which, in standard spec, is rated at 420 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 460 pound-feet of torque at 4,100 rpm.

It should also be noted that the 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 Performance Upgrade Package is part of the Off-Road Performance Package (RPO code PCJ) offered as an optional extra for the GMC Sierra 1500 AT4. As a result, the Off-Road Performance Package is also unavailable to order.

The unavailability of the Performance Upgrade Package extends beyond the 2021 GMC Sierra 1500. The package is also unavailable for the 2021 Chevy Tahoe and 2021 Chevy Suburban, as GM Authority covered previously.

Looking ahead, the 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 will be replaced with the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Limited. Orders for the new 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Limited are now open.

The 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Limited will serve as a “stop-gap” model to bridge the 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 with the fully refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra. As such, the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Limited offers the same trim levels, exterior colors, and interior colors as the 2021 model year, ushering in the 2022 model year prior to the arrival of the fully refreshed pickup.

  1. They should make these ordered from the factory to keep down the costs, and make standard on the carbon pro package. These performance packages are really expensive for the slight improvement you get.

  2. Wake up GM. The competition is putting power in their vehicles. That’s why they are winning!

    1. Is the competition really “winning” though? A look at the 2nd quarter to date sales numbers says that simply isn’t true as GM is dominating truck sales.. and thats with severely cut production numbers and an older model..

  3. The performance package should be standard with both V8’s. I dunno the 5.3L numbers, but 435Hp and 469Lb/ft from a 6.2L with a nicer sound coming out from it will definitely help. Maybe the refreshed 2022 Sierra and Silverado will also offer improved engines since all Ford Ecoboosts make more torque than the GM V8’s and the Grand Wagoneer 6.4L outguns the Escalade 6.2.

  4. The 6.2 in the Vette puts out 490 horsepower – GM should be able to squeeze 475+hp from the 6.2 in a truck application. If they did that they could charge a premium for the 6.2 HO engine. Come on GM, I can’t do all the thinking for you.

    1. Corvettes don’t tow. You stick the engine in a truck, people will operate it at higher powers for hundreds of miles continuously. A sports car is only operated briefly at high powers to accelerate, and doesn’t spend tens of thousands of miles on the track. Automotive engineers at GM have done thinking.

This is also why there’s a typical 25-30% derate between identical engines in pickups and real heavy-duty trucks.

  5. I wonder if this performance package is going to be available on the refreshed 2022s. Anybody know? I had a 2021 Trail Boss 6.2 with the performance package on order but the order could not be fulfilled the way I built the truck. Currently waiting on the 2022 refresh and hoping the performance package is still available as an option.

  6. I have a 2021 GMC SIERRA AT4 crew cab with the 6.2 liter gasoline engine with the BLACK WIDOW package which I Love, I get tons of compliments, one of my only complaint about it is the size fuel tank which I believe is only a 24 Gal. tank??? I would like to see a replacement of at least 28 Gal. Tank.
