The Performance Upgrade Package for the 2021 Chevy Silverado 1500 is no longer available to order.
The Performance Upgrade Package for the 2021 Chevy Silverado 1500 is an LPO-level option, which means that it is delivered to and installed by the dealer, rather than installed on the vehicle at the factory.
The package is tagged with RPO code PDC, and includes the following content (relevant RPO codes listed in parentheses):
- Performance Air Intake System (5W7)
- Cat-Back Performance Exhaust (WBC)
Previously, the Performance Upgrade Package was offered for 2021 Chevy Silverado 1500 Custom Trail Boss, LT, RST, LT Trail Boss, LTZ, and High Country trim levels. The package was not offered on WT or Custom trim levels. What’s more, the package required the inclusion of the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine, or the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, depending on the trim level selected.
To note, the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine is rated at 355 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 383 pound-feet of torque at 4,100 rpm, while the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine is rated at 420 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 460 pound-feet of torque at 4,100 rpm.
As GM Authority covered previously, the Performance Upgrade Package for the 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 is also unavailable to order. What’s more, the package is no longer available to order for the 2021 Chevy Tahoe or 2021 Chevy Suburban full-size SUVs.
The 2021 Chevy Silverado 1500 will be followed by the release of the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 Limited, which will serve as a “stop-gap” model between the 2021 model year and fully refreshed 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500. As such, the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 Limited will offer the same trim levels, exterior colors, and interior colors as the preceding 2021 model year. Order books for the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 Limited officially opened on July 15th.

So maybe I missed something in the article, why is the performance package no longer available ? Is it a parts shortage or lack of sales for that particular option or is GM going to offer another similar type of package. Seems strange that no explanation is offered
Not to be a pessimist here but it seems like every time we turn around GM is eliminating options on almost every model truck and SUV they build. I realize there is a chip shortage but WOW seems like that makes it really hard on dealers and customers. I still go can’t get over the phone charging cradle eliminated from the Yukons. Unless it is a retrofit, who really wants to spend 80k plus for a vehicle that lacks some pretty fundamental options.
How long is this chip shortage going to stop!?? Chevy is losing ground to lots of other brands. C’mon guys come up with a solution soon!!!
And here is the rest of the story.
These packages are made up of dealer installed parts or LPO parts.
They have been in short supply like most parts in the performance aftermarket.
Why? Well due to material issues, labor shortages, shipping delays truck and ship on imported items.
These parts are still available as individual units. But you may see long delays in getting them.
GM just is not going to deliver trucks with items on the stickers that may be delayed 2-6 months.
Keep in mind systems like the exhaust here is not a GM part but a Borla.
If you want these parts the dealer will order the truck and the parts. You will get the truck and when ever the parts arrive they will install the exhaust.
This is not a chip issue but lingering effects on the virus.
I have seen a number of companies waiting for parts that are just off the coast of California. There is a shortage of long shore man to unload the container trucks. So the ships sit off the coast waiting for a ports to let the,min to unload.
Your comments make sense and are reasonable regarding lack of parts , it just seemed odd that no reason given & seeing as this performance option might have been something that a lot of us may have wanted from the factory. But like you said it can be added by the Aftermarket groups. Thanks for the answer.
The dealers can still add it when the parts are available.
This is just taking the charge off the window sticker and putting it on the dealer. This is how it was for years anyways.
We saw the same on the 22” wheels and floor liners.
GM is not saying anything as once supplies are back they will add it back again.
This is nothing new. The 4th gen f bodies got held up in the 80’s due to no supplies on the power passenger seat. It created delays and some owners just deleted the option. It finally came back months later.
The we haters like to blame everything on bean counters yet they have little real insight in what is really going on.
I have steps ordered for my wife’s SUV from one of my supplier GM dealers. They are 2 month out if longer. Normally they are 2 weeks.
They can’t add it on. The even though it’s an LPO, performance intake must be factory ordered in 2021 models.
Thank you for the information. I am disappointed a reader had to provide that information insted of the source we all go to for GM facts and details. Gm Authority should have provided that information. This is not the first time I have been disappointed with the lack of details from GM Authority. If they don;t have all of the details then tell us they will dig and find out and get back to us….. Sorry my two cents!
GM has been limiting available options for years, I’m sure a bean counter somewhere is behind that. Less and less of get what you want. More of you get what we think you want. Which has almost made me consider a Ford, almost.
Now Ford advertises a pick exactly the vehicle that you want and we will be glad to give you just exactly what you want.
GM , are you trying to make Ford the top US auto manufacturer? It sure seems like it more and more every day. You always lag behind Ford with being innovative and forward looking in perspective. It seems that you wait for Ford to come out with break through ideas and then use it for your own in a couple years.
Sure the tailgate is innovative, but that’s the first first in a long time.
Hmmm. Article says books opened July 15th for ordering. Well I can confirm after calling over a dozen dealers, order books are not open. Try to order a truck and gets denied.
Maybe GM should just stop building vehicles unless some one orders one and had a direct customer name. Put money down to get orders and stop trying to get inventory because its not working.
Figures, just bean counter paradise, not a single car guy or girl makes those decisions, if it doesn’t have anything to do with an electric vehicle than the hell with it! Rushing to electric will be the next big mistake. Behold the Bolts that have caught fire!
