Relive The 2022 Corvette C8.R Special Edition Reveal: Video

General Motors unveiled the 2022 Corvette Stingray IMSA GTLM Championship Edition last Wednesday, June 9th, pulling the sheets on a brand-new special edition of the 2022 Corvette that pays homage to the dominating performance of the Corvette C8.R racing machine in the 2020 IMSA WeatherTech Series. Now, GM Authority is reliving the debut with the following exclusive video.

Captured on the MacArthur bridge going to Belle Isle in Michigan, the 2022 Corvette Stingray IMSA GTLM Championship Edition can be seen rolling out alongside a C8 Corvette pace car and the No. 4 Corvette C8.R racer. Both the Coupe and Convertible body styles for the new special edition C8 are featured.

The timing of the debut for the 2022 Corvette Stingray IMSA GTLM Championship Edition coincides with the Detroit Grand Prix, set to take place at Bell Isle this weekend. The Corvette C8.R will be there to compete on its home turf, with the Detroit Grand Prix marking the fifth race of the 2021 Weathertech Sportscar Championship.

The 2022 Corvette Stingray IMSA GTLM Championship Edition includes a host of upgrades that help it stand out from the rest of the C8 lineup. Based on the range-topping 3LT trim level, the special edition Vette also comes equipped with the Z51 Performance Package, plus a graphics package that gives a nod to the two C8.R race cars, with a No. 3 edition package in Accelerate Yellow with gray graphics, and a No. 4 edition package in Hypersonic Gray with yellow graphics.

Further touches include yellow brake calipers and black-painted Trident alloy wheels with the Jake logo in the center caps, plus Carbon Flash-painted exterior mirrors, black side rockers, and black splash guards.

In the cabin, the 2022 Corvette Stingray IMSA GTLM Championship Edition features Strike Yellow and Sky Cool Gray upholstery, GT2 seats (the Competition Sport Bucket seats are also offered), yellow seatbelts, and a Special Edition plaque. Owners also receive a custom-fitted car cover that mimics the racing machine.

Just 1,000 examples of the 2022 Corvette Stingray IMSA GTLM Championship Edition are slated for production.

  1. Once again Chevy trying to make Chicken Salad out of Chicken $hit about the Vettes racing in IMSA! Who are they racing in Detroit? No one. No other cars in there class. Seems as though GM is spending a lot of Corporate Dollars for nothing! They will brag about their Win in Detroit when they raced no other Vehicles. The other vehicle manufacturers seen the light and have moved on from GTLM!

    1. That’s about to change! They are going to configure Stingrays to FIA GT3 specs to run in GTD class! That’s where all the competition is!

    2. The other manufacturers realized they can’t beat Corvette so they took their ball and went home.
Also, this represents Corvettes championship from last season when they crushed BMW and Porsche.

    3. You are right, Who are they racing in Detroit? No one. that’s because the others that are still left in the class are three teams FERRARI, PORSCHE, AND BMW. (Ferrari F154CB 3.9 L Turbo V8 – Porsche 4.2 L Flat-6 – BMW S63 4.0 L Turbo V8) and of the four teams in the class CORVETTE has beaten them in almost every race. all other competitors dropped out of the class because they couldn’t compete. ISMA is now drooping the GTLM class and everyone is moving to GTD class once GM makes changes to the C8.R it will be in the GTD class as well and it will continue to dominate until ISMA changes the rules again just like they did back in 2009 when the C6.R was killing the completion.

  3. Given that the C8 is sold out way into next year, I wonder why they’re bothering with a special edition at this point.

    1. Why, I’m proud of them. The success of Corvette mid engine is the biggest thing in the auto industry since the Americans invented the automobile.
