General Motors released a service update to address an issue with the fuel injector diagnostics in certain 2021 model-year Chevy Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD trucks.
The problem: affected trucks may throw a falsely set fuel injector diagnostic trouble code of P026C and/or P20EE. This service update involves trucks equipped with the optional Duramax turbodiesel 6.6L L5P V8 engine only.
The hazards: while this issue does not pose any sort of safety hazard to the driver or vehicle occupants, owners will ideally want these diagnostic trouble codes cleared to prevent instrument panel warning lights or other future problems.
The fix: dealers will be instructed to reprogram the engine control module (ECM). This will clear the falsely set diagnostic trouble codes. No parts are required to perform this repair.
Affected components: engine control module (ECM).
Affected vehicles:
- 2021 Chevy Silverado HD (with 6.6L L5P V8 Duramax engine only)
- 2021 GMC Sierra HD (with 6.6L L5P V8 Duramax engine only)
Number of affected vehicles: GM has not said how many 2021 Chevy Silverado HD and 2021 GMC Sierra HD trucks may be affected by this problem. This service update only involves Silverado HD and Sierra HD trucks that are currently in dealer inventory. The service update will expire on June 30th, 2022.
Owners should: owners of affected GM pickup trucks will be contacted by the automaker and instructed to make an appointment with their dealer. Concerned parties can also reach out to GM directly using the contact information included below with any questions or concerns they may have.

More reasons every day to be grateful I got an ’18! The new ones are as ugly as a rotting pile of garbage in the sun, especially the hideous front ends, the ugliest mirrors to EVER adorn a vehicle, (that title was previously held by Dodge but one thing GM does well is they take ‘worst of’ awards from other manufacturers), and the third-grade design competition winning wheels! Top all that off with GM screwing up a flawless diesel (the L5P Duramax), and you have yet another reason why GM is in last place in the truck wars, and it’s only a matter of time before another bankruptcy.
How to fix GM: get rid of that hag of a useless CEO and clean house in the design department, start from scratch with people who actually have a concept of design…GOOD design. If I were going to buy a new truck today, it would absolutely NOT be a GM product! If they don’t turn it around by the time I’m in the market again, I’ll hold my nose, bite my tongue and buy a Dodge!
They had a good thing going but as always they couldn’t resist ruining it.
That’s my personal opinion of course. GM has done a LOT to upset me over the last few years, and the 2020 and later model HD’s were the last straw.
Should fix other problems they also have. Maybe start with paint
Have two gmc no more gm buy Toyota sorry been loyal gm all my life almost 60.
