General Motors Releases Infotainment Fix For 2021 Chevy, Buick, GMC And Cadillac Models

General Motors has issued a Service Update for certain 2021 model-year Cadillac, Chevy, Buick and GMC vehicles over an issue related to the infotainment system.
The problem: in affected vehicles, the infotainment system may have a condition where the display screen will appear black with no audio during cold temperature conditions. If this problem is present, the vehicle will not produce a chime when the key is detected or inserted, either.
The hazards: while this problem does not pose a safety risk, various features will be unavailable if the infotainment screen goes black and/or freezes.
The fix: dealers will be instructed to verify the radio software and update it if necessary. This should prevent the black screen condition from appearing in cold weather conditions. The software update can also be pushed to vehicles via an over-the-air update, so dealers are asked to check the status of the vehicle’s software when they arrive at the dealer to ensure the update has not already been made.
Affected components: infotainment system (RPO codes IOS, IOT and IOU).
Affected vehicles:
- 2021 Buick Encore GX
- 2021 Cadillac XT4
- 2021 Cadillac XT5
- 2021 Cadillac XT6
- 2021 Chevy Blazer
- 2021 Chevy Malibu
- 2021 Chevy Silverado
- 2021 Chevy Trailblazer
- 2021 GMC Acadia
- 2021 GMC Sierra
Number of affected vehicles: GM has not yet announced how many Buick, Cadillac, Chevy and GMC vehicles are affected by this particular issue.
Owners should: this service update will be addressed for vehicles already in dealership inventory and with customer vehicles that return to the dealership for any reason going forward. Owners of affected vehicles can also reach out to Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet or GMC directly using the contact information included below with any questions or concerns they may have.

It would be nice if GM would recall the glitchy CUE screen in my 2015 Cadillac ATS. That is my ONLY complaint with my automobile with over 70,000 miles on her.
I have a bug in the system in my 2020 C8 Corvette. If yo uremote start it, you get a big blast of audio when you get and the car and hit start.
I have a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado LT with infotainment problems real bad static they can never catch it doesn’t happen all the time all updates have been made according to the dealership several people have the same issue and GM has not asked for a recall this is an issue that needs to be addressed
It’s good that the company is concerned. My step son had a crash in his new Nissan, the Air bags didn’t deploy. No recall.
The first upgrade on the infotainment system on my new 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe cause a total loss of all systems. Sierra Dealership in Memphis TN had my vehicle in their bay for two weeks to replace the whole infotainment unit. Shortly after this last upgrade, my vehicle became very loud possibly from the transmission area as the gears are now having a short surging lapse and speeding up while shifting, This is my first GM product in several years and I now remember why. After eleven (11) months of owning this vehicle, it has seven recalls with an overall time of two (2) months at the Sierra Dealership.
At a $68,000.00 purchased price, I don’t feel that I should have to be the test driver for the updated features in their 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe. GM needs to hire better engineers or after chapter 11, they will have to change their name again from the new GM Company to the new, new GM Company.
Do you live in a state that has a Lemon Law in effect? Have you contacted GM’s site for unresolved troubles you’re experiencing?
I am having same issues but my infotainment system just blacking out and on also affecting the compass on the dashboard/signal doesnt sound when this also happens.
21 Blazer here. The article reads that this issue only happens in cold weather. False… I live in Texas. It’s been in 100s lately. My infotainment center has blacked out on each long drive of 3+ hours I’ve done jn the last few weeks. Called Chevy, they walked me through the steps to reset my computer. Told me to watch it for 48 hours. Call back if I have the same issue.
My radio this morning in my 2021 silverado when I started it displayed the same screen when I bought it. Asked to be put out the demo mode and when that happened it displayed Cadillac and the logo !! Not sure how my chevrolet became a Cadillac but all my settings and info wasn’t there or phone paired up.. seems very odd!
My 2021 Silverado just started doing this 2 days ago. Radio on, screen will turn black with sound still going for about 10 seconds and then it all shuts off and then comes back on after about another 10 seconds. My iPhone also does not connect to CarPlay. Also the charging on the usb port randomly goes off and on. It is cold here in Michigan so that may be it. It’s going to warm up this weekend so we will see if it corrects. Will call the dealer though.
We Have a 2021 Denali and the Infotainment center has never worked correctly, the touch screen rarely works, and it keeps going to a screen where it asks to eject the usb, while we are traveling we just keep putting it back on the radio eveytime. Anyone have any thoughts on this?
My 2021 Buick Envision seems to have a glitch. I shut the car off and the radio keeps playing. It doesn’t do it all the time. Just a random thing every so often.
I found that I’d you go to settings then system then reset options reset in safe mode after it come back on after reset it should work fine until the next time when you turn off the vehicle and restart the safe mode will dissappear and work normally
Thank you very much Tony! I will I’ll try it tomorrow.
I have a 2021 Chevy Suburban Premier. Unfortunately, the rear head display screen was broken. So how do I buy a new screen if I just want to replace it?
