  1. This is an important issue since GM invented the electrical power assist years ago for the Pontiac Fiero. My 2009 Chevy Equinox has it and has no problems.

    2. Pontiac fiero did not have electric power assist. The first GM car think with Electric power assist was the Chevy Cobalt.

      1. The Pontiac Fiero didn’t have any assist. Maybe he was talking about some experimental thing perhaps?

        1. I believe it was originally slated for an electro-hydraulic system, where an electric motor turns a hydraulic pump, but was cancelled before production. Similar vehicles that did this of the era included the Subaru XT6, and Toyota MR2. GM did use a similar system later in the Silverado hybrids.

          1. The electric assist was designed for the Pontiac Fiero because the original hydraulic system had extremely long hoses, and the car was cancelled before it could use it.. But the Silverado was the first GM product to have it as a feature.

    3. I went to look at the recall. The total number of Canadian vehicles affected is 7, so probably between 70 and 140 US vehicles maximum. This is a very small recall.

  2. Is this problem only related to those GMC vehicles with “automatic engine stop/start ?
(I never had a problem with electrical power steering assist on our 2015 GMC Terrain)

  4. i have the power steering assist fail in my 2021 gmc sierra AT4 while backing out of my garage and also 4 crank no starts with my diesel. GM has not acknowledged that my truck should be fixed like the SUV’s yet. They will do nothing to my truck at this point and I don’t feel safe or comfortable in my 70K brand new truck.
