The official 2022 GMC Terrain configurator is now live on GMC.com, giving customers a chance to spec the refreshed crossover to taste.
The GMC Terrain was originally set to receive a refresh for the 2021 model year, but as a result of complications arising from the COVID-19 pandemic, the model refresh was pushed back to the 2022 model year.
The 2022 GMC Terrain arrives as the fifth model year of the second-generation vehicle, and features new front-end styling with a revamped grille insert with two lower “tabs,” as opposed to the more rounded grille insert of the previous model year. The new front end also features LED signature Daytime Running Lamps as standard across the lineup. In back, the 2022 GMC Terrain features new LED taillights.
Another major update for the 2022 GMC Terrain is the introduction of the new off-road-oriented AT4 trim level, which features a unique front fascia treatment, a protective front skid plate, gloss black-painted wheels, off-road tires, and AT4 badging.
Notably, the AT4 is currently not listed on the 2022 GMC Terrain configurator, with only the SLE and SLT trims listed as of this writing. As GM Authority covered previously, GM will roll out the 2022 GMC Terrain in three stages, with the first stage limited to SLE and SLT trims. The second stage, which opens for orders in July, will add the AT4 trim, while the third stage, which opens for orders in August, will add the Denali trim level.
The SL trim level offered previously is no longer part of the Terrain lineup, with the 2022 model year designating the SLE as the new entry-level trim in the model lineup.
Under the hood, the 2022 GMC Terrain is offered with a single engine option, namely the turbocharged 1.5L I4 LYX, which is rated at 170 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 203 pound-feet of torque at 2,000 rpm. The turbocharged 1.5L I4 LYX connects to a nine-speed automatic transmission, with both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive offered to put the power down.
Production of the 2022 GMC Terrain takes place at the GM San Luis Potosi factory in Mexico.

A few minor interior changes I’ve spotted:
– Leather pattern changed (perforation extends to the end of the seat now)
– Redesign of the transmission push-buttons. They are now flush with the console and uniform.
– Blue decorative line around the air controls is now chrome.
– Button for emergency flashers now shares room with a start-stop button.
– AT4 trim darkens the faux-chrome interior trim pieces.
Oh, and I forgot to add: new cloth seat patterns.
Still under powered with 1.5 t needs 2.0t
We have 2 Terrains now with a 3.0 and 3.6. The new Terrain needs the truck 2.5 Turbo as an option. 170 HP with AWD isn’t going to get the performance required for Ohio and Michigan winters.
I believe my 1965 FOX mini-bike had a bigger engine than the 1.5 (just joking).
With out the 2.0 T I would not even think of buying a GMC Terrain Denali. I have driven both and the 1.5 is just under powered.
Once proudly canadian built. Now General Mexico 🇲🇽 is moving most production to Mexico, Brazil and China.
I wonder if merry would ever consider living in those countries, since she loves them so much
2022 GMC Terrain a bit refined if u like to call that the Denali version at least gmc should give you a option of the 2.0 l engine it would be nice and give the vehicle a little more towing capacity 1500 lbs ??? Not quite sure 3500 lbs is a way Better !!!
I am a long time GM fan and owner, and I think that not offering a bigger engine is a mistake and GM will lose customers… If they can offer the Blazer, Traverse and Accida with two engine choices then why not the Terrain and Equinox? And the AT4 package haha a 1.5 liter is not big enough…leave the small engine in the RAV 4 PLEASE!
The RAV4 has a bigger standard engine than the Terrain/Equinox. 2.5L 4-cylinder with 203hp and 184lb-ft of torque. Despite the slightly lower torque, the RAV4 is a faster vehicle. There is a reason Toyota sells 5 RAV4s for every 1 Terrain that GMC sells.
