The 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 is set to usher in a model refresh with a variety of changes and updates compared to the current 2021 model year. Now, GM Authority is shedding light on the 2022 GMC Sierra production dates.
The refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 will start rolling off the line on September 20th, 2021. Crew Cab and Regular Cab models are the first body styles set for production, followed by Double Cab models later in September.
Meanwhile, the 2022 GMC Sierra HD is set to hit production on July 12th, 2021, preceding the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. The 2022 GMC Sierra HD will introduce only a few small changes compared to the refreshed Light Duty GMC Sierra, with a full model refresh for the HD truck expected by the 2023 model year.
Model | SORP |
---|---|
Sierra 1500 Regular Cab | September 20, 2021 |
Sierra 1500 Double Cab | September 27, 2021 |
Sierra 1500 Crew Cab | September 20, 2021 |
Sierra HD | July 12, 2021 |
Note that these dates are subject to change, with the continuing global microchip shortage potentially affecting production for the entirety of the industry.
Also note that the production start dates for the 2022 GMC Sierra are are identical to those for the Sierra’s corporate cousin, the 2022 Chevy Silverado.
Among the changes expected to arrive with the debut of the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 is a completely new exterior design, with an overhauled front and rear fascia, new wheels, and new paint options. The interior will also be all-new, with an overhauled dash, center stack, center console, and gauge cluster with the option for a fully digital readout. The column shifter will also be replaced with a new digital gear selector, while migration to the new Global B electrical architecture will enable the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 to offer the latest tech features, including infotainment goodies and GM’s Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving system, the latter of which will enable semi-autonomous towing.

Approximately when do you expect dealers to start accepting orders/deposits for the 22 trucks if production starts late September?
Soon, GM is working hard to complete and sell all the built shy inventory the next 4-6 weeks, then they will show the refresh models and start taking orders.
So I’m figuring off your estimates early July…with a reveal and order banks open…dealers typically ask for a small deposit?
July is Likely, could be the last week of June, or early August. The real question I have is will GM show the Silverado EV at the same time, before, or after? Ford got a big pop from the F150 lightning, and I think GM will let that excitement die down, and then surprise with the Silverado EV, and will show real trucks in action, not just a show truck like they did with the Hummer EV. GM has numerous awesome reveals stacking up, it’s going to be an exciting summer/fall fir GM fans (and investors).
Hummer EV SUT production model

Other EV show car reveals (Celestiq and Escalade EV are real possibilities)
Hi Guys! It looks like based on GM Authority’s post over the weekend, the end of June early Jul timeline for orders is being delayed?
Production will not start in late September. Official reveal will be 10/21 and GM will have a reservation program for the new trucks, similar to what they did with the Hummer, Cadillac Lyriq, and Blackwings. You can expect a truck in 2Q 2022
Is this solid information on dates etc?
Some time in 2023, if your lucky.
I’ve pre-ordered a Chevy cargo van with a 6.6L V8. What’s your estimate for production of these vehicles?
I’m gonna miss that cheap, crappy interior!
You can buy my 2020 2500HD, it needs to go by the end of the year.
When will the 2022 Yukon start production because I am being told the 2021 will take until August to get if they fill the 21 order if that’s true I should wait on the 2022 model
22 model Yukon might have supercruise available? If so, its a no brainer to wait.
There might be a model year end discount of the 21 model that won’t be offered on the 22 model. The other side of the coin is that the 22 model will be worth $3,000 to $5,000 more than than 21 model in the used market in 2 or 3 or 4 years. It’s a bit of a toss up. Wait for the 22 model if you want to sell your Yukon in the next 4 years
I was at a dealership yesterday and the sales person told me that they are NOT releasing the updated dash/center console on the 2022 Sierra 1500 Denali, and he said that super cruise is only coming to the AT4. I have my hopes ALL THE WAY up that the 2022 gets the refresh. Should I disregard his info?
I would believe nine if that. All trims should have the refresh
PHEW! Thanks! Hoping to place my order as soon as I can.
I’d take that with a grain of salt. Actually I’d say BS. I was talking to a sales person about two months ago and mentioned that I think I’ll hold out for the 2022 redesign and he said GM isn’t working on a redesign at this point. He said the semiconductor issue will push it out past 2022. I said, well every thing I’ve read and seen says they are so you might want to look into it. Basically my point is some sales people are clueless and I’m sure he just wanted to make a sale that day (which he didn’t).
That’s exactly what I was hoping. They said their GM guy was coming to the dealership 6/17 to give them the 2022 Sierra training. We’ll see how much more, (If anything), they learn from that.
Hey Kat and Ran. Thank you guys for being so intrested in our product! I work for sales at a large gmc dealership.
No one is going to be able to give you a solid answer on if the refresh is happening or not.
What I do know is the redesign was supposed to happen last year but covid delayed it. I don’t think gmc will delay it again.
I dont think it’s going to hurt you to hold off a couple of more months.
I am currently waiting to buy the 2022 model myself.
What I will say is this, is the redesign worth 10k dollars more to you ? I doubt we will see big rebates on these trucks. Right now there is pretty much no rebate, 3800 dollars I believe on a slt, denali, or at4. When we are used to seeing rebates like 4k to 6k dollars.
So do keep in mind that these trucks will probably increase in price and have no rebates until inventory is stocked back up.
Thanks Kevin! I was hoping to place an order using a timeline that aligns the final payment during the employee pricing event towards the end of the year. I figured that would be most advantageous pricing I could probably get. Hoping that promotion still runs this year. After driving the 2021over this past weekend, I would say that the upgraded interior is worth 10k extra. I think there are minor updates being made to the front and rear fascia as well?
There are some small outside changes, you have to remember the guys in sales like me have no clue what is going to happen.
That’s why I said before take anything you see with a grain of salt.
We usually run employee for all in December. If i’m not mistaken though last year we did not run employee for all on brand new Yukons, Tahoe, and Suburbans. We were all shocked that we were doing it on 2500s.
You also have to remember that a lot of dealerships are not even honoring employee or supplier pricing right now. I’m not sure how that will work. Is employee pricing going to be a rebate or a discount ? I think if its the same as an employee discount a lot of dealerships will turn the offer down and not honor it.
The one thing I would want you to keep in mind is if you are trying to narrow down a build to show up in December you need to order through a large dealership as they will get more allotment then a smaller dealership.
GMC quit production on my order at 5 1/2 weeks and stated they were no longer making AT4’s with the premium package and without upgraded safety features. So now I’m out a truck and the 2022 will be the same truck that I ordered just more expensive 🙄😕
I have a 2018 GMC Sierra e-assist SLT crew cab, which i really like dont see myself trading it unless if find a better option. I really like the idea of the Ford lightning being EV. When is GM going to release there Sierra EV? I would not mind getting a hand on one of those trucks.
This is where the arms war starts: a continuous cycle of studying and manipulating. Try and understand the idea of being a continuous witness to your ideas and start putting it into practice.
Does anyone have any idea if GMC will offer a tan or beige interior in the Denali Sierra 1500 line up in 2022?
From what I have seen recently there is a black/light grey in the 2022’s Denali version, I would love to see a beige with the black rather than grey! My Yukon denali was all beige, don’t understand why that couldn’t be used in the trucks!
I would like to know when will the refresh 2022 gmc 1500 hit dealers, if I have to wait any longer ill just jump ship and buy a new FORD instead..
Are they going to bring back the short/standard bed for the regular cab?
It is 9/18 and I still cannot order a 2022 Sierra Denali :\.
I ordered a 2022 GMC sierra 3500 in mid june 2021. When can i expect to see it or a build date?
Question: I paid a deposit and ordered a 2022 hd at4 in August, before the chip news or the redo of interior. My salesman can’t answer any questions. Is there any gmc personal monitoring this site able to give any information on the current status of my order.
